Hey all you experts out there! I need for you guys to answer a couple of questions: where do I go to find the square ft. for a box I am building. (I have 4 tens). and how do I "tune the ports". Thanks guys! ( I'm old school and need to catch up wit' da' times.....tee hee.
sealed boxes are for sq= sound quality. They provied better response time. Ported are usual for spl. They increase the output but usually sound sloppy doing so. Certain subs are better suited for either enclosure. Neither box is better than the other. It depends on the application.
one 10" sub.. seems to me that anyone with the means should invest in two 12" s at the least, especially if you are going with a cheaper brand. i personally am running two 13.5" JL's on a 2600 watt amp in a dodge ram quad cab and i've set a car alarm or two off when i get it cranked up. Its understandable if you are putting a little sub and stereo system in a little car but if your rolling with a big truck or especially an SUV then you gotta go big or GO HOME!
i like the sound from sealled enclosures over ported. They delliver a punchier bass, ported give deeper bass but then you have the resonance problem inside your vehicle. Sealed needs smaller boxes, saves space for amps.
dude if you red the first comment i made ull c that i wqas onl ymaking ah suggestion on the sub he had and the time n effort he went to making ah box then some dome shit got arky n mouthed of so i told him to fuck off so i thort id ark up ah bit my self..
To all the sealed box sucks comments. Take this bit of subwoofer 101 info for you. Every box is different, and every sub is different. Some work better in sealed boxes, and some work better in ported boxes. But here are the fundamentals of subwoofer boxes. Ported boxes are for lower bass tones generally. They give a lower frequency, and give you that bass you feel in your stomach. Sealed boxes give more of a punch. They tend to drown out deep tones, and give you the hit of what a drum would do.
there is nothing wrong with a sealed box at all. he might be looking for more quality sound other than something that is louder and loses sql.
for some one that does not have a lot of money and new to car audio i say it is a great job on that box. keep it up man. u will learn a lot more if u keep doing it ur self
yo i reackon xplod is a good make all tho i did sell my two 2008 sony xplods and brought the new inphase sub and its proberly got more bass than 2 ;) nice way too bulid a box tho mate :) good look kid!!
low114 is only dissin' on sonys because he didnt set his up right and it probably exploded. I've had several sony subs over the years and either sold them or just got out of subwoofers. Any sub can be decent if you get the right box for them. Building a sub box is the best way to go because you can tune them to fit your subwoofer. low114 is just a little pansie who can't stand the fact that someone has a better setup than him.
dude i work at ah car performence shop,, that also do car audio. oh yeah and my car has over $6000 worth of clarion 7 weeks of fibreglass work so go fuck urself u dumb fuckn yank fag....
Hahahahahaa Do you feel proud of yourself that your car has so much work done to it and whatever. Your trying to pay out a inexperenced person that dosent have the advantages of working in a car place. So grow up cause no1 cares about your stupid fiberglass shit. haha you make me laugh
so much time waited for a shitty sub. box is worth more than sub

Just buy a real box there designed to put out the best performance of your subs. That box will make it sound like shit

What materials did you use? I'm not sure what sort of wood to use, because i'd imagine if you use the wrong stuff it'll vibrate pretty bad?
chif234 3 years ago
3/4" or, 1" Medium Dense Fiberboard or (MDF) as it's listed at several lumber providers.
Be sure to opt for the better grade MDF though.

is there a certain glue you should use to put the box together??

I use "tight bond 3" for making my boxes. I find that a lot of people also use that.

killmandos hes making an enclosed box, it has a deeper sound then ported
SpudPk3r 4 years ago
dude ur a retard... a sealed box doesnt give a deeper sound than ported!
danmarcelino 4 years ago
No, it gives you a much harder hit than a ported box will. Ported is for deeper richer bass. Sealed boxes are for harder hitting bass.
