  • wow, paramedic, kudos to you for your career choice... but everyone is affected differently by what Life will show us, the east side, for example. let this person have it! it was an eye opener for him/her & hopefully fuel a change inside for them. maybe you should just be thankful for that.

  • this should go on picturetube

  • It is high time you learn what you are fighting America!!!

Go here to learn why we are on this earth and more

  • I think I just saw I've been looking for since96, when the cops split us up as kids. His name is Andy Carson and if anyone in Vancouver sees this and knows him, my e-mail is kccampbell920@yahoo.com I'll never give up, and may be headed there soon.

  • Thank you parasympatholytic that was very well said-

I think it is easy for people to try and separate themselves from suffering if they decide it is completely foreign...

    addiction has many faces.

  • loves Van :)

  • ;\\\\\\

It's really sad to see this, MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE PEOPLE

  • The people that are there are all there because of different reasons I look at this video and think about the people that help these homeless people.I also look at the people and wonder how someone becomes addicted not to say that they are all there because of that.I do not wonder in a judgemental way I just wonder.

  • I truly believe that if Canada can make this change and STOP the CYCLE by STARTING WITH OUR YOUTH then the rest of the world may follow considering everyone loves CANADA. U wanna change the world start in your own back yard.....

  • Make the Rich Pay

    Join Anti Poverty Committee Coalition...

I have live in Vancouver for 40 years.

most people that has mental-illness ( & addiction ) are not born with mental-illness.

it is the human society that push them over the edge, & turn them into drug addicts...

  • good mixing and sincronizing music and pic

  • I never liked going to East Van.

  • @calvinblinkee East Van rules

  • BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION : All homeless people have mental disabilities!!!

  • Street life? Not in Canada!!! Canadians claim that nothing like this ever happens there. My God!!! Didn't all the socialism fix everything? Are Canadians lying? Well,I'd have to say yes. How's the health care thing going up there, btw?

  • @maybetuesday1790

Canada is a huge land mass. The population in the Central area and the east have no idea what happens in the west. In Ontario and Quebec homelessness is not possible you would freeze to death. All the homeles come to Vancouver because they knew that here they will be fed and cared for at BC's expense. Also Ontario and Quebec put out warrents for the arrest of their criminals valid only in their provinces, therefore, the criminals all come here where they are not arrested.

  • @borninvanbc Well dah!! Like I couldn't see that it's a huge land mass. Its one country though, right. However,it doesn't excuse the lie that Canadians try to force on Americans that Canada is so perfect. And btw when I was at Curve Lake and St. Catherines, I saw homeless people.

  • @borninvanbc they did a poll in 2006 around 80% of the homless and from BC

  • at least we don't get busted here for no reasons as smoking joints and doing other drugs

  • fletzy

u dont know nothing about those people how could u say that i have met some of the most real down to earth people down there.... u have no right to judge

  • good photography! good thing u stayed in the car... they would have chased after u if they saw u taking their pic

  • I remember being 13 and walking down those streets, I was scared I didn't know anything about how bad it was.

  • anybody who knows who`s playing this song?

  • i would say david gray pretty sure

  • where the fuk is your compassion..??

i'm currently in ontario.taking classes on concurrent disorders..and when i get my certificates i will go back to the streets and help rather than judge the same ppl i have been with on the streets of vacouver..u need to have been there to understand why they are there...KARMA will seek you out...and believe you me i don't wish this life on my worst enemy

  • @shellshocked64 you are right, but the karma bull is retarded. Ther is Universal Law, but there is no Karma.

  • jeez.... ignorant

  • Your obviously a very confused individual. And if your writing is any indication your as dumb as shit too. Yeah, Obama is the Antichrist. What a retard!! I'm sure the antichrist would want to tax the rich and give it to the poor, and make sure that everyone should have adequate health care, oh, wait that actually sounds like the regular Christ, but you wouldn't know that what with your bible propping up a table, and you spending all of your time reminiscing about what a great pres Bush was.

  • like i said im not a bible thumper but i do beleive so what, some people wil have just have to see for themselves i didnt say he was the anti christ he comes close is what i said its happened many times before in rome, and other super powers it will happen to us if we beleive this wolf in sheeps clothing our goverment lies and im sure yours does to, and by the way i hated bush guts glad hes out so dont even go there with me bush started the downfall of america obama will finish it

  • heartless fuck im not even a canadian citizen yet, and i find your post offensive some of these folks arent drug addicts alot of them im sure are but still even theyre people to, run them off if anything i hope all canadians arent like you

  • 1:45... she's a vampire!!!

  • 0:56 the met (a bar) is right on that corner.

  • actually that part of hastings is just a few blocks.. it looks really bad though and i try not to go to that side if possible, but if i really need to, i hope that nobody from those bums would talk to me! they can really be intimidating...

  • i live there for 18 years and never got bothered. we ll are not drug addicts or drunks on hastings .

  • Yes. We're perverts because the sight of another person's genitals don't bother us. Don't call 911, or whatever the fuck you have on QUEBEC the next time you get hurt. Since we're all twofaced. Don't bother us.

  • gr8 shots

    gr8 video

    well done

    thank you

  • They prefer to beg for money then they spend that money for drugs.. They got paid from government 600dollars per month.. They even dont wanna work and a good life.. That life cant be dramatic for them.. I believe that they are lucky.. In United States that problem way worst than Vancouver.. I used to live in Vancovuer. So, i do believe that my opinion is right..

  • i do beleive ur a pussy

  • Fuckin hell, looks like drugs have had an even bigger effect there than it has were I live.

  • I wish the government would really step up and do something about the hastings problems. I don't think it's that hard to do so

  • re: babyface

    good luck with that!

  • is the music tracy chimpman?

  • (It's spelled Tracy Chapman) And no.. it's David Grey

  • dont we owe the start of this to the 90's government deciding people with mental disabilitys were too expencive to care for n they could just care for themselves.. resulting in them doing drugs n here we are today. i dont feel scared walking down the streets at night.. they are just people. try talking to one of them n ull start to understand it. i sat for hours one night talking with a young girl who would sing songs for change by a train station. hard to imagine shes in such a position. :(

  • @lejink You are right ... people in Vacouver should all do the same ... walk Hastings and talk to the folks and be generous to them

  • whoa.. i don't know how you could have missed this all these years. It has been happening forever.

The population, and drug use has exponentially increased, this is the only reason why it's very prevalent.

I grew up in Vancouver, walked down main/ hastings many many times/ midnight to 4am some nights. It wasn't much a danger, as it was somehow entertaining to myself at an age of 19 through 25

best of luck, it's all just gottten worse the past ten years I've noticed

  • I cant beleive this¡ I thought vancouver had not that side¡

But I think these people are addicted to something and many of them dont want to work¡

  • Very artistic. I love the subtle haziness in some of the pictures, owing to the pictures having been taken from a moving vehicle. It is a metaphor, showing the disclarity of some of these peoples' lives.

  • good video. I think the song went well with it... what david grey song is it?

  • The song is called Hold on to Nothing, on the Sell, Sell, Sell album (prob his best imo).

Also, security guard should probably learn how to spell HEROIN before he calls other people idiots.

  • hey security guard, you would be amazed at who is addicted to heroin, yet still function as a businessman, etc. You have no idea buddy.

  • luke9o (1 month ago)

stupid naif people..most of these people are addicted to alcohol ..not only DRUGS..theres people who takes heroin and still are business man..

this has to be the most idiotic post ive ever seen you know what herion does to someone im a security guard in vancouver and theres no way any business man would survive the effects of herion it ruins your facial features you get sores everywhere you lose weigh think before you speak herion is a killer

  • Well Mr. security guard, I'm a paramedic in Vancouver, and I'm here to tell you that business men/women outstanding citizens who ever does use heroin. Yes you see it more on the east side but you also see it every everywhere and with everyone. I've treated company CEOs, average Joe's, students and what have you. Some people have the means to cope with an addiction others don't. Poor health is a byproduct of a lot of things, not just heroin.

  • @parasympatholytic It is true, thanks for letting people know this they all assume that it can never happen to them what they need to remember is that all of these people are someones daughters, sisiter's brothers ect and that they are human beings

  • stupid naif people..most of these people are addicted to alcohol ..not only DRUGS..theres people who takes heroin and still are business man..

  • well.. alcohol IS a drug ...

    :P

  • If Vancouver had a homelessness problem, more Phillippino people would be on the street - instead, they work 3 jobs at minimum wage to make ends meet. Saying drug addiction/alcoholism/mental illness is the same as poverty is an insult to millions of poor people who just want a chance. These folks have lots of chances. You can eat for free in Vancouver 18 times a day (fact!) and welfare will even pay for a room. What they want is drugs.

  • Vancouver does not have a homelessness problem. It has a drug addiction problem. Let's call it what it is.

  • interesting way of looking at it.. i agree with you in that fillipino's are a hard working bunch.

  • crack or meth, which is preferred in Vancouver?

  • heroin

  • Drugs are SO COOL. Look at what you can become. Great song though.

  • i want to come to vancouver ihave all good things but nothing like this.I want to visit in July of 09

  • Homeless is everywhere pore people r everywhere

  • Powerful.

  • 2:48 My good friend smokey Devil......Dam drugs

  • I fed homeless people down there on Hastings, at Potter's House, they looked so happy just to have somewhere to sit, and beautiful food to eat. Ive never met such polite people in my life. Props to David Gray too

  • I live in the neighborhood! The rent is cheap!!! I love the crackheads they always seem to be quite agitated over nothing...they are hilarious!!

I know what you mean though...it is sad to see people lose their minds.

  • I was there in my last trip on december, and i realized that homeless people are very far to what vancouver shows to tourists.

Is sad to see how drugs transform people, government have to do something, the problem is big even bigger than in countries or cities of undevelopment countries.

  • Me gusto la manera de plasmar la forma de vida y hasta los sentimientosy posibles pensamientos de las personas que viven ahi, buen trabajo.

  • VERY NICE !!

    GOOD JOB

    WHO IS SINGING ?

  • Thanks! :)

The song is 'Hold On' by David Grey..

  • TRUE. If a shout is cried in the streets about the plight of the downtrodden...Does anybody hear it? Or do they even listen?

  • Its sad.... i drive past there everyday to see my gf. Those people struggle to survive. Sadly most of them give in to the drugs, the homelessness is verry sad
