  • The Great Re/b/oot

  • My math teacher's related to this guy :)

  • 15 people need to let their backbone slide

  • This, and "Drop the Needle" were quite the thing in the early 90s... 'Who would have thought' that Canadians could do hip-hop? :-)

  • I wish rap was still like this. Just having a good time without hurting anyone. Or the rap with a meaning that you could learn from.

  • oh man this guy's hardcore, i have to learn this song and i can't keep up

  • Maestro ! Is King

    - I remember barely havin money to buy a slice a pizza n now i own my own company!

    Reminise

  • he's coming to my school on wednesday!

  • @goldenniche UTSC :P

    couldnt make his seminar htough..

  • This reminds me of the 4th grade

  • Maestro had it all - image, style, beats, lyrics, and flow. It's a shame that he couldn't cross over into the US and make it huge, but back in those days you pretty much had to be from either NY or LA to make it big in rap. Regardless, this track is awesome, and totally makes me nostalgic.

  • A Canadian classic! The only Canadian hip hop single to reach gold status. This track put a hip hop catagory in the juno awards.Symphony in effect is dope from beggining to end.Which also reached just shy of double platinium!A truley talented Toronto MC

  • Some may disagree but Maestro is the Big Daddy Kane of Canada. There was no internet and barely any media coverage. I hope Drake appreciates what Maestro has done to pave the rap road in Canada.

  • @milkbone11111 There's nothing Canadian about Drake's lyrics or influences. Most of Toronto's artists grew up in rexdale and jane and finch. Drake is from Rosedale he's from a completely different world.

  • @trivial131 He's actually from Forest Hill...

  • @KardiFan2000

I met him last night. he's good friends with my Buddies brother. he's honestly the most grounded dude you will ever meet in your life. He hasn't let the fame get to his head

  • damn! brings me back to the days when I had to rewind the tape with a pen to save the walkmen batteries

  • One of my co-workers dances in this video. She's the one wearing the ripped up jeans, dancing on the stairs.

I was 10 when this song came out, but I remember it well (and the lame dance moves I busted out when I heard it on the radio).

  • I remember practicing the moves on this vid and stopping and rewinding the "tape" to learn the lyrics!! lmao

  • Super unerrated talent ! I dont understand why he doesnt get alot more respect ! Jeez ! Is it because he's from Toronto ?? I think this was like the 1st Hip Hop song I ever listened to in 1989 when I was 10 years old. lol

  • @ROBCRX Because of that boarder our talent will never get the respect it deserves.

Maestro could rip up that ice ice baby white boy!

  • sickest canadian rapper

  • @toothpicktower1 remember Organized Rhyme...oh ya!

  • Hip Hop is alive and well today... In Canada!

  • today at 7 Toronto plays for Haiti, fresh wes is preforming gonna b SICK

  • The rap today sucks..What is this crap by Ludacris, L'il Wayne?? I don't get it. This is the BOMB..and I'm white.

Can't believe this song wasn't bigger in the states.

  • us media is controlled by large companies that also owns the record labels they only play the product they push

  • This is still the real deal! WOW as soon as it started... you should of seen me, a fat, bald, whte, 40yr old doing the running man in the kitchen... My wife was like WTF! she didn't get it???? O well This RAP is AWESOME.

  • never understood why Maestro never made it bing in the States, Canadian Icon!

  • I don't know of anyone that's made it "bing" in the US rofl!!!! Canada #1 Nation on Earth!!!!! This song was number 46 on CBC's list of greatest Canadian songs (aheah of Fly by Night by Rush even)!!!?

  • This is the peak of Canadian Hip Hop, when Young MC played LOL! Vancouver in '92 I was working security and Maestro Fresh Wes opened blowing Young MC's tape loop crap away. 5* from a ex-Kensington market/Scading Court guy. Peace.

  • Yo check the alphabetical slaughter style he did with the letter "b" from 1:37 - 151 ..its like the papoose alphatbetical song but wayyyyyyyy b4 that song ..this song dated back to 1989 but papoose song was in 01 i think..i dont think rakim , ll cool j nor big daddy kane ever drop lyrics like dat lol....TDOT stand up !!

  • This Was The First Hip Hop Song in Canada! =O well, the first POPULAR Canadian Hip Hop song. =\

  • I remember when this song was hot. My bro was in Gr.8 and they asked the teacher if they could play this song in class....At one point he says " I dont give a DAMN!!!" and the teacher gasped and turned off the tape. Apparently that was Gr.8 scandalous!

  • reminds me of Rakim

  • was this the first rapp song ever made?

  • this songs "fly" LOL

  • Man this song is the SHIT!

  • he was watchin notorious at a vancouver theater today

  • shahin,is that you?

  • Yo CANADA!!!!!

  • saw this man once at the mall in Tdot with his bodyguard

  • definitely some sick production

  • This is genuine rap and its making a comeback, im sick of all the american so called hip hop spitting about drugs, sex, bling, maestro is one talented dude

  • no school dance was complete without the Maestro! And if you go to a club on a retro night, it still gets everyone on the dance floor. One of the best hip hop songs ever released and i'm so proud he's canadian :)

  • wow I forgot all about this. I used to try to scratch to this in the 8th grade.

  • that has to be the dirtiest verse from the old school

  • This got repetitive by the end. Wes should of cut this song to 3:30.

  • There's some crazy sick dance moves in there too.

  • lol thats awesome

  • Maestro........hip hop needs you

(a universe without light is lightless......)

  • Thank you

  • the girl at 2:20 -2:24 looks hella mad lol!!

  • Maestro IS Canadian Hip-Hop. Best Canadian single released in the past 25 years (IMHO).

  • I'm a Canadian singer (classically trained) living in Germany, and have to do a concert of Canadian music here in Sept. I'm not a hip hop or rap fan, but this song came up among the top 50 Canadian tracks, and hmm, well I dunno if I can do it justice with just my (used to singing but not at all used to rapping!)voice and my jazz pianist... Nice to get to know the song anyway, and see that there's some good people out there, with STYLE performing this music.

  • Yea Maestro is something like our Big Daddy Kane. Maestro's the GOAT Canadian rapper.

  • BIG like Kane! nice one

  • SO glad I found this on YT. I sold my vinyl copy of this, 4 years ago for £20. Kane will always be better.

  • I faved this for f*cks sake, why has somebody negged me?

  • we have to do this 4 are finale at dance in are jr./sr high school

we only go from 3:08 (curios george) and then we get off at 4:00 (stepped off and did the slide)

  • Look out America the next wave of rappers will come from Canada, so look north America thats where its at boyyyyy.......

  • could be true because hip hop in Canada is 10 years behind the usa. although there are some fake rappers trying to follow the trends. but canada still got mcs in the park battling the 4 elements of hip hop are still kickin in canada so if some record labels give them a chance canada could have some dope rappers

we already gave hip hop part of MAIN SOURCE, Marco Polo, MAESTRO FRESH WES, Scott Storch (when in the roots) and so on.

  • dont forget swollen members, kardinal, rascalz, dream warriors .. and many others I'm forgetting. Canadian hiphop has done some some amazing things. Ghetto Concept, Solitair, k-os.

My main beef is that so few canadian hiphop artists are willing to stick with true-school, preferring either to sell out or to grow into other genres. Not sure if thats a necessity of making it in canadian hiphop in the long run.

  • From 2:40 to 3:14..he just schoooools.

    Pay attention class.

  • I was 10 when this song was hot. I would bust out with my yellow gettoblaster & practice my dance moves in the backyard....it was awesome!

  • did u all notice farley flex? hes in the background

  • TRUE OLDSCHOOL!!! GOTTA LOVE IT! To bad, this was the only song that made his fame.

  • Yeah, I know...I loved Drop the Needle like mad, too! Private Symphony was cheezy, but a jam back then. I got his next album too, it was pretty phat, Conductin' Things was sweet.

  • M.A.E.S.T.R.O

Call me your hip hop tic tac tician...

Simply the wickedest, wickedest, wickedest song of it's day. I must have played it 10 trillion times and worn out the cassette down to the nubs. And Maest is a stand up guy too.

Tdot, Jane 'n Finch, Scarborough, big up unno massive!

  • This song has the sickest bass

  • Sick sick sick record. This song ruled every Canadian dance floor in '89. I wanted one of those D.O.P.E. State jackets so bad.

When this album dropped, I got Maestro to sign a Symphony In Effect t-shirt at an autograph signing at Dr. Disc in London, Ontario. It's one of my most prized possessions to this day LOL

  • this is as good as canadian rap gets....so the rest of you wannabe white or black ghetto thinking, bullshit talking, fakeass rappers...just stop...stick too this....

  • Its almost s NO other canadian emcee(s) ever matched maestros intensity.

Mastro is THE most important Canadian rapper still. he should be mentioned with names like KRSONE and the BIZ and EASY E
