Next time turn it up, man! Splawns are like any other Marshall-voiced amp. You need to crank them up to get them roaring. If you are playing at lower volumes, you are going to have to compensate by adding more preamp gain.
Just set my QR like yours, od1, gain 2:00 sounds like a lot more gain on mine. Set my 1st gear, od1 gain on 8:00 and still sounded better than yours at 2:00. Had the same issues when i first purchased mine and it ended up being very low output pickups, do you have another guitar with hotter ones?
Thanks for comparing! I know something is off now! On my other older Splawns, gain above 12:00 was too much. My Charvel has a Duncan Custom, a pretty hot pickup that sounds GREAT into my Tech 21 Trademark 10 combo. Yet, this Splawn sounds ike there's a 12AT7 low gain tube stuck in the preamp somewhere!
