he programmed a MIDI sequence on the computer and sent MIDI OUT to the monome instead of what most people do, send MIDI IN to the computer by pressing buttons

7000$ lights are a lot different than a monome. it's like comparing apples and oranges. you can't use lights as a midi controller. they're also much bigger and much more expensive. it doesn't seem like this person is throwing parties with his monomes as the sole light show. i think he's just messing around with some cool toys he has.
