I spent here three months and it is hard to find more ignorant, sad and negative country than Belgium on the Earth! Can not wait to leave this shitty country and "the capital of Europe"!

I've been to Belgium twice and it's a nice country. The only problem is that people from other countries don't know much about it. To outsiders, it doesn't have a strong identity. But it's a fine country though, nice people.

You shouldn't forget to make the distinction between Dutch and Flemish. It's only a difference in dialect and use of certain words.We Flemish and Dutchmen always accentueate the little differences although we're not that different at all. But nevertheless very important. PS don't try to learn it from 'educational' vids on youtube. They suck ass. Seek some adequate learning utilities. PS2 if your native language is english, don't lose your accent, it's a bit funny.
I got some books and programs to help me learn Dutch- I can't find anything in my country that teaches you Flemish. Learning Dutch is going ok, though.
@C0mmanderBacara Actually, quite often the grammar differs as well, depending on where you go there's different grammar. In fact, I wouldn't even be able to understand some people in the far west because of the difference.
Although, if you're referring to the official language, then yes, it's the same apart for vocabulary and pronunciation.

@Hasaluth Belgium has a bad reputation? Well, from the US where I live, its reputation is among the best in European countries, only behind the Netherlands and Germany, traditional favorites. It has beaten France, Spain and, even, Italy, whose reputation in the US has fallen since, roughly, 1994 (and Berlusconi in power...). It's seen as hardworking, honest and charming, with low corruption and industrial drive (who saved Budweiser in the US, eh? A belgian corp.!)

Overdrijft ge nu niet een beetje? I got some books and programs to help me learn Dutch- I can't find anything in my country that teaches you Flemish. Learning Dutch is going ok, though.

@C0mmanderBacara Actually, quite often the grammar differs as well, depending on where you go there's different grammar. In fact, I wouldn't even be able to understand some people in the far west because of the difference.
Although, if you're referring to the official language, then yes, it's the same apart for vocabulary and pronunciation.

not really, it's our typical self-depricating humour in reverse. we're a small country with a bad reputation (somewhat undeserved), so praising ourselves in such an overly grand american way is hilarious for us...

@Hasaluth Belgium has a bad reputation? Well, from the US where I live, its reputation is among the best in European countries, only behind the Netherlands and Germany, traditional favorites. It has beaten France, Spain and, even, Italy, whose reputation in the US has fallen since, roughly, 1994 (and Berlusconi in power...). It's seen as hardworking, honest and charming, with low corruption and industrial drive (who saved Budweiser in the US, eh? A belgian corp.!)

Nice to hear the dutch still have a good reputation in the US, since it's.. well.. exactly the opposite of how what we think (in western europa) about the US. But yeah there are good people in the US, that's obvious. I think you are one of those.
About belgium.. well the country itself is nice.. But really Flanders should be an independant country (or atleast in a union with the netherlands, with the same rights and things as the netherlands but just away from Wallonie)

Overdrijft ge nu niet een beetje? En niet zo vlug oordelen, ik ben pro-Vlaamse onafhankelijkheid om voor de hand liggende redenen, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat ik België haat en overal de zure ga uithangen (in tegenoverstelling tot gij die over verzuring spreekt en zelf zo zuur is als een zuurpruim).
Het zij gij die iets niet begrijpt, het zijt gij die hier de zure zijt, en het zijt gij die direkt aanvallend reageert en breedgaande veronderstellingen maakt zonder mij te kennen.

I love Belgium. I hate it's limitations. Search history, some parts have alternatively been economically stronger than the others.

Het is een prachtig land- waar je zo veel cultuur vind dat je erin verzuipt. Zo veel fantastisch bier dat je elke dag dronken bent als je er al een paar van kunt proberen en jezelf maagproblemen kunt eten als je al een paar samples van de meest geweldige cuisine van Europa eet.
