Shawn was 4'8, thats 142 cm, weight was 90lbs, that's 41k, build was slim, when abducted, Devlin was 6 foot 4 and weighed 300 pounds, you do the math, by the time he got taller the damage was alkready done, and besides which Devlin terrified him despite his height, and he was 15 when rescued, he is 17 now, he has grown since coming home. Shawn was talll, but he very lanky and skinny, he could not defend himself against Devlin even if he wanted to.
Devlin was 6'2'' (1.88 m) and Hornbeck when he was rescued at 15, was 6'1'' (1.85 m). Of course, he was just a child when Devlin kidnapped him back in 2002. And he developped a kind of fidelity with the stranger, and was scared to tell anything about the pasr 4 years, because he was near his parents home all the time.
Go to the website of missing and exploited children, and you will see that the case of Hornbeck is so small compared to a lot of other missing and murdered children accross USA.
thats not the point if its a bigger case or not the important thing is they were both found not just one but two and the frst everyone thought shawn was dead and to find both alive is a wonderful and amazing thing and very rare to find 2 chidren alive with there kidnapper sense steven stayners case. thats what makes it so unique! you should behappy that their found not saying thier are bigger cases than this thats just unnessecary
I am familiar with the steven stayner story. People who make comments like he should have done this or that have not the slightest clue what its like to be so scared that you close down and go along with your tormentor. This is how multiple personalites are born, when fear of a situation drives the normal personality deep inside and a new tough rough personality is formed to take the knocks and abuse. However nice the guy is he still controls you, your mind, and your actions and thoughts 24/7.
I have come across 11 12 13yo that would love to live away from mum and 'stepfather', such a kid offered no school, endless video games, junk food, with someone who was a big kid in the way they related, even the sex is something some kids this age enjoy, often with a male friend, and if they see the adult as a friend, then they get used to it. Don't look at this from the mind of a middleclass adult, but as a scared kid, wanting to please his 'owner' to survive, until it becomes a way of life.
I tell people who can't understand this situation that Shawn found himself in, is to read the Steven Stayner story. What happpened to Steven, mirrored what happened to Shawn. Shawn may not talk much to the public about his ordeal, but to get a better understanding and knowledge, read I know my first name is steven, you will get chills when you read it, cause this happened to Shawn, Shawn had a great family he had just turned 11, no one helped and thats the sad truth in the end, not his fault
Look at Shawn's eyes. They tell the story; the very tip of the iceberg of what he went through. Before and after, they smile, he smiles. At that hellhole, Shawn's eyes are dead. What a horrible thing for him to go through....
well I put this up b4 some facts came out, in the facts it mentioned ben being small for his age, so devlin probably thought he was 11 or 12, but then it came to light he intended to kill ben as he did not want another boy for so long as shawn and this is after my slideshow went up, so thats why it got there, cheers :)
Yes I do hope one day Shawn will release a book so we can better understand what has happened, there also needs to be a film put out as we need to kept aware of child abduction and always keep our eyes open..
Shawn looks much happier almost a year latter, and so do his parents. I hope for their sake, they can start to live a normal life. The way it should have been in the first place.
