Look what shape the top biathletes are in. Germans, Russians, Norwegians, French and are perfectly slim! These define the world biathlon, Americans are retards in this respect. Biathlonn is one of many silly events that should be dropped from the Olympics. Cross country skiing and target shooting!? How about having a summer Olympic competition where the competitors run a 10K, but stop several times to shoot bow and arrow at a target.

Biathlon comes directly from winter military exercises. Cross-country skiing to move around quickly and efficiently in snowy conditions, combined with accurate shooting - both important skills for a soldier during winter combat. And they tend to work against each other; the cardio workout of xc skiing makes it harder to hold the rifle still to shoot and hit the target, while the extra weight of the rifle will slow you down while skiing.
