The Beach Boys is my all time favorite band.(back when you could understand the lyrics) My very first girlfriend's name was Linda.Way back then she had beautiful shoulder length natural blonde hair that I loved to run my fingers through.......And boy could she kiss...All my life I always wondered what it would have been like if we had stayed together. Thank you for the memories..!.
I remember standing on the platform at bridlington railway station back in 1979 with my girlfriend. I'm glad to say i'm still with my lovely wife to this day and this record always brings a smile to my face and i love my lovely lady to bits.
This song was amonster hit in Europe , Britain especially. Sadly, here in the USA, memories of " Big Ones", " Love You", Brain's Back", had all combined to make the group very up & down, commercially. This song is just beautiful--a trib. to Al, Ron Altbach, Bruce, & the wonderful arranger Harry Betts, whose string & horns orchestration gave this song the depth & gravity it deserved. Hands-down, one of Al's finest moments--ever ; more so, as the group was in serious trouble. Wolfsky9
Hands-down, one of Al's finest musical moments-ever. Vastly underated both onstage & in the studio, Al was part of the glue that held the group together till Carl passed. This is gorgeous--onstage or the studio version! Sing On Al!! Wolfsky9
@Wolfsky9 Sir, I loved Al sang this one on the Knebworth concert. Me myself listen to the Boys before some weeks earlier as a teenager in Stockholm. From that show only remember Dennis as very drunk and Brian as that reclusive as he was then. He went to have a rest behind the speakers during that show.
@ClubViking63 What a sad, sad memory--DW & BW were both fighting & losing their inner battles. Between '80 & early '83, BW spiralled horribly. Drugs & depression almost killed him. DW also became hopelessly mired in alchohol, cocaine, & a lost sense of himself. It was a heartbreaking time, & part of why Carl left for 2 years. He could not stand by & watch it happen to his 2 older brothers. . Late'80 to 9/4/82--Carl's return--were a low-point in BB's history. Wolfsky9.
I remember this song so very well, I was dating a girl from Milton Keynes by the name of Linda and couldn't get up there very often, often wondered wot ever happened to her
I remember this song so very well, I was dating a girl from Milton Keynes by the name of LLinda and couldn't get up there very often, often wondered wot ever happened to her
@HyruleLand THe song contains a great Beach Boy harmony ( at the end). . In the London album I love it when Mike says after the great harmony part ... that it is his favorite part and let's do one more time....
Lovely, lovely song. I remember that I was camping on the Isle of Wight at a village called Binstead, just outside Ryde. This song was on Radio Victory at least once an hour. The original radio station's gone. The camp site is now a housing estate. But the song's still as good as ever.
..It was at this point..when they recorded Lady Linda..they really matured musically..and became..i think the most talented Band in the World...I was lucky enough to see them 20-years ago...when they were at their best..and i hope they tour again in some form..
@peter007taylor I was lucky as well. I got to see them at McArthur court in Eugene Or. in the winter of 1981. The entire band was there including Brian. Great Memory
@peter007taylor She is 59, but will be celebrating her 60th birthday on 24th July according to her profile, what great tribute to wonderful woman though.
Not a great fan of the beach boys because they could not hold a candle to the beatles but ,with this track they combine classical music and a nice uplifting note wow!..... a small part of my past which i loved ...
It was the band's first UK top ten hit since 1970. The use of Bach, a soft rock sound that was very popular at the time, and good lyrics made it stand out.
No, the lead vocal is definitely Alan. He wrote this song as a tribute to his wife, Lynda. If I remember correctly, Brian did not have much to do with the "LA" album. Bruce had re-joined the band as it's producer.
I was courting my wife back in 1979 and remember hearing this record while we waited for the train from bridlington to leeds. I'm glad to say me and my lovely lady. are still together after all these years.
It's got a beautiful start and ending with Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring on the harpsichord and strings! I would have released a full version of that instrumental track but in it's full form from start to end on the B side to show people where Lady Lynda was inspired from.
my girlfriend is named linda :)

That instrumental version of Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring reminds me of a beautiful day out in Bingley West Yorkshire on the canal by the locks!

Remember it well, although, in my view, Jesu blaring out at top volume, noon and night, spoiled the usual tranquility of the locks
