@TheDgoodyear not quite sure, The length of the tail of the grass hopper has no bearing at all on escapement, as it is directly connected to and fixed to the pendulum arbour only the pallets, are free floating with there mass off center to allow them to drop into the escapement gear.

@KohviKoer The weight for the clock driving weight is around 6lb give or take depending upon friction. On the gear teeth, from arbours, from pallets on escapement wheel. the pendulum weight is a couple of pounds I think.
So everything has to be super smooth and polished to reduce all friction. if this is your first clock I would recommend the number 6, Simplicity, or the Horolgium as the Bird of paradise is a great clock, it is a little pain to set the pallets right.
The finish I used was Laquer as you can sand it off the teeth. You get it either in spray form or in a tin, I used spray for convienance and you can get it at home depot.
You can see what I did on one of my other movies as I prepare my Number 6 clock gears for Laquering, it's number 6 part 4 and it starts around 2.44.

Beautifully made! Much better looking than the one Clayton has on his site. I've made the "Swoopy" which has the same 'grasshopper' type escapement.
Its fascinating to watch.
