  • Nice, nice. Sounds like Gorillaz's Punk, in a way.

  • this sound so much like Good Music ahah

  • This sounds so much like Test Icicles

  • needs more cowbell

  • 4dislikes?! fuuuuck you!!!

  • dude I can't believe the yeah yeah yeahs did a cover of this. both of these bands are awesome!!!

  • one of those songs where you kinda have to make up your own lyrics

  • Haha looking it up though maybe they just heard an episode of This American Life they really liked and misquoted parts of it for an album

  • A whole lot of the lyrical content of this album, including the title, is borrowed from a Luc Sante poem called Unknown Soldier. I sort of wonder what they were going for.

  • nosiri'mok...

  • what is the best lairs album

  • @crazychadmb They Were Wrong so We Drowned...

  • angus is the greatest

  • No sir, I'm O.K.!

  • Love this song and video. When art meets mania!

  • Great music.

  • umm... mr. you're on fire!! lol

  • lol @ 1:11 rocking out

  • So amazingly hipster... Piss on it!

  • @srfrr no dude its not hipster, well okay it is a little, but not compeltely, its got a bit of original post-revival feel to it, and lets face it, that's one of the only genre's that can save us from the evil that is hipster, i personally wish there could be a complete punk revival, but that probably wont happen with all this indie and screamo bull shit so we have to band together and support post-punk revival because its the only thing we got, its all that's original these days : /

  • @LutraphobiaProd Shut up.

  • @LutraphobiaProd listen to more music

  • @LutraphobiaProd nothing about a revival is original. Hipster is a word, not a mass of people. I mean seriously, you're not using your head when you say shit like "save us from the evil that is hipster". You sound like some old war vet talking about how much he hates hippies, but you don't have the years or the conviction to actually hate 'hipsters', so it's just empty talk. This music was happening way before modern stereotypical 'hipsters' so don't label it that, even a little.

  • @srfrr and your uploaded videos are gay, its not a problem at all :-)

  • im trying to find songs from "they threw us in a trench..." live on youtube. Any footage out there? they don't seem to play any of them at shows anymore either, which i guess i could understand.

  • who really gives a fuck about "skins" I honestly dont know what that is...

  • Nice 80s pants Andrew ;)

  • SCI FI !

  • Exists to fuck with your brain waves?

  • Both versions are amazing! a great song done wonderfully by two amazing artists.

  • TOMA! YA!

  • This was on Naomi's episode of skins Series 3. :)

  • the yyy cover is so much better than the liars!!

and i can see how this sounds like the arctic monkeys, but the arctic monkeys are much better.

  • The yeah yeahs cover is the SHIT!!

  • wow, this doesn't sound like liars at all! crazy stufffffff.

  • but i guess thats what happens when you leave new york...ugh

  • good god. how have the liars escaped my musical radar for so long? did this angus fellow really date karen O of the yyy's?

  • How can you even begin to compare Arctic Monkeys (spell it correctly at least you twerp) to Liars? They are two completely differing styles of music.

  • Arctic monkeys are gay in comparing with liars

  • Look, the point is not which band is more "gay". Liars and Arctic Monkeys encompass two completely different styles and genres of music. To even begin to compare is idiocy.

  • Man im sorry, my post is for the guy DIONNEMAN, this you tube lines are so trickey . . .

  • Comment removed

  • Arctic monkeys are gay in comparing with liars

  • ahahah cooolll

  • i hear........foals.....

    in this...........

  • Foals came AFTER this!

  • yeah i know...but still

  • very arctic monkeys

  • Maybe I'm out of the loop on this one but I guess they have two different versions of this song? Because on my album it's a completely different song, very fast paced.

  • I like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's cover better than the original :)

  • Seriously, man? The Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover is an abortion of this song. Such a back alley job.

  • one of the greatest songs in the history of the world! seriously!

  • I totally agree. The first time I heard that album I fell in love with it. I have yet to hear all of their other albums entirely, but love the Liars.

  • @punkb0ner Thanks. I wish it didn't require the "seriously" but thank you.

  • The guitar of this songs reminds ne the sound of Arctic monkey

  • but liars (and this song) was before arctic-monkey-time ;-) both are great, but this song is better than any of the arctics

  • Yeah, I know it. I just said that the sound reminds me Arctic Monkeys. I think that maybe Arctic Monkeys copy the sound. I think this song is great, but I love too Arctic Monkeys. That´s a matter of taste. But nobody can deny that Liars are more original

  • So we think same way, dig that ;-)

  • @nevrevr no

  • it puts the jiggle on the ass

  • Gang of Four anybody?

  • also a great band! (and I'm aware of your point)

  • see i dont hear gang of four at all. i guess i hear pop group, but i think people need to stop saying that any kind of punk music with melodic basslines sounds like gang of four or reggae influenced.

  • What makes them sound so similar is the basslines that drive the melody along, the abrasive punk guitar that comes in and out of the song, and the unusual drumming. Plus the singer even sounds a little like Jon King. Oh and riff that starts at :50 sounds exactly like "To Hell With Poverty" by Gang of Four.

  • the unusual drumming being handclapping instad of a drum beat? The 'abrasive punk guitar' is hardly attributed to just the gang of four, his voice sounds nothing like Jon King on any other song and neither do their riffs. To hell... and Mr. Your... are both bands poppiest songs. Listen to both back catalogues and get back to me if you think the compairson's still there.

  • Too true. Fit it in a box as soon as you hear it! why???

  • haha you fucking wish! Only comparison is they were both ahead of their time. Only Liars were'nt ripping anybody off as blatently (aside from maybe The Fall).

  • I thought Gang of Four when I heard their first album. I think there are plenty of comparitors. That doesn't disrespect the liars one bit.

  • I truly believe that they sound nothing like Gang of Four (who i like alot), i've seen Liars live about 4 times, met them the same amount, heard every album and every track and apart from a few seconds of guitars and maybe his vocals (on this ONE song) there's no comparison. I'm not afraid of saying they sound like other parts of bands at certain points (i.e the Fall) but as a whole, no one like them.

  • Do you?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • polyrhythmic punk-funk at it's best and weirdest.

  • which album is thsi from?

which one do nay of u recomend?

i wanna get the they were wrong so we drowned one

  • it's from they threw us all in a trench and stuck a monument on top (blast first/mute 2002)

  • i saw this on tele in an Asutrian cafe

well shocked they'd b playign sumthin like the liars!

  • I liked this style for Liars the best. It helped me bridge the gap from noise rock and punk rock to indie rock. I like this song. I thought this was one of their best albums. I loved the experiemental feel it has. :)

  • Christ i cant imagine Liars ever being like this now, thank fuck.

  • In my oh-so-humble opinion, I think this is the best The Liars ever were.

  • I actually like their current, heavy rhythm style more. It feels more like a breath of fresh air.

  • way back when this came out it was a huge breath of fresh air. the style just got done to death in the following years

  • Way back? This was only like four years ago. Maybe six at best. You fucking kids under the age of 25 have no perspective on time.

  • well the album was originally released in october 2001. so that would be 8 years. jackass

  • Eight years does not approximate "way back," which was my point, li'l britches. Get it?

  • and my point is that you are pointless

  • brilliant

  • yeah, but the singer reformed under the same name, they technically never broke up.

  • Yay! First comment, i just ordered this cd after previously listening to samples, this is old, but i like it!!
