I have a special love for U2's b-sides. It seems as they were created with a different intent from the get-go. Destined to not be on an album, but to be heard only by those who'll appreciate it for what it is. Less commercial, more musical. I used to collect their b-sides as a kid already. Such musical wealth in those tracks... Imagine you'd present U2 to someone who'd never heard their hits. It's the same band, but as if from an alternate universe, where hitsingles are not done.
Otra que venía incluída en los B-Sides y que si no me equivoco está incluida en la banda sonora de Wild Things (Criaturas salvajes) con Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Teresa Russel y Kevin Bacon.
U2 has on some of the albums released the B-sides as outtakes or live versions of songs from the album I dont know if they still do, they changed alot when 1987's joshua tree came out they had a arrogance that was not there during Unforgettable Fire album and tour watch them do Bad, at Live Aid 85 then the streets have no name stuff and you see it
@ItsRainingDonuts What I meant was, while it has very few B-sides, the B-Sides it does have are very strong, where as a lot of the B-Sides from the other albums aren't strong and you can tell why they were B-sided. This song to me sounds pretty promising and could've been something pretty great, along the same lines as Drowning Man.
@RattleAndHum1988 aah, I get what you mean! Quality over quantity :P a fair point definitely. I respectfully disagree though when I think about the quality of most of the B-sides from both The Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree albums.
@ItsRainingDonuts Same lines as Drowning Man in terms of the feel of the song, not as in Drowning Man is also a b-side that should've made the cut (cuz it did! :) )
Oh my god i totally forgot about this track. And suddenly i'm back in time, sitting in my far to small bedroom, with black clothes on and my hair wild. Doing my homework...damn nothing's changed... thank you god.
yes NOLTH can't compare to this but people get old and mature n change and so do U2 at least they don't stck to same sound for 30 years like stones ac dc zz top and so many others
@soleil2020 agreed .. bands cant win .. peeps dont like how they change over time, nor do they like how they stay the same .. so ya lol individuals such as PARADOXPIX need to be ignored
I hear complaints that their new stuff is not inspired. But I have to say...listening to their old stuff again and a lot of it is horrendous. New stuff for me any day. I'm a long time fan, but the reverence for the old stuff is just nostagia in my book.
I liked their old stuff when it first came out. But for me it just hasnt stood the test of time. Purely subjective opinion. I find the older stuff hard to listen to now.
I am younger than they are yes but I'm not a teenager either (35 yrs). I grew up listening to them as a kid, since the Boy album (older relatives got me into them). What does that have to do with anything? It's true that they developed a unique sound as they learned to play their instruments. I just don't have so much patience anymore for that. I understand you prefer it, that's fine. I don't. Would my opinion automatically be different if I were 50 years old?
For expressing an opinion? Is that the way you show intellect?...by random name calling to someone you disagree with...because you don't know how to come up with an intelligent counter-argument? Grow up genius.
Why did I just get an email notification regarding this post you just made .. it would suggest it was directed at me .. yet ... I didnt call you a name. There was no name calling on my part so have a closer look before sending me your shite.
U2 is the greatest band in the world. Has been for 30 years now and I don't see them being dethroned anytime soon. If ever. What they have achieved is a miracle. All original band members, never any real drama between the mates, never any problems with drugs or alcohol (other than Adam but he got that under control quickly) They were relevant in the 80's, 90's and are STILL relevant in the 21st century. What other band has done this? They have sold over 144 MILLION albums and won 22 Grammys. U2!
Sadly, U2's last two albums have left me with a feeling of enormous potential left rather less fulfilled than could have been - they've either lost their touch or they need to work harder at making a real masterpiece. NLOTH was hyped as the most adventurous thing they'd done since Achtung Baby and it just wasn't.
That's really him? I knew it couldn't be Bono, or at least I had a hunch. So I guess he composed it too... I didn't realize this was coupled with Two Hearts Beat As One, though. :D
doesn't that kid just freak you out kinda? well I think this is a great U2 song... no Bono, although I could kinda picture words being put into this song but with very little of Adam's voice, it seems like an instrumental, which is not typical of U2, but great bass and drums nevertheless... and I like the piano chords too.
Adam's bass is pretty simple here, but it really suits the general feel of the music. I just wish he'd sing rather more. Considering that, when U2 started, he wasn't a bass player, just a fraud with a bass and an amp, his playing here is not bad at all.
I agree, a lot of great U2 songs have a simple, yet perfectly suitable bass, With or Without You being another example. In this song, the mood causes me to picture someone running away in a sense, running away from others who want to help this person but they end up running away and never coming back. And the bassline and piano chords I think are what primarily put that image in my head. That's the thing about Endless Deep, it's practically an instrumental with a few very subtle vocals.
yea u2 is easy but there fun and what i imagine in this song is someone walking in a cold dimly lit city and all they do is walk i get the same image when i listen to voices inside my head by the police

You say your're a "long time fan" and hate their old stuff??????
Their old stuff defined them as they evolved their sound for the WAR sessions.
It's an amazing original sound for teenagers learning to play their instruments.
It's like saying you hate old FLOYD, and love "Learning to Fly" -- geez.
