I use a store bought buffalo sauce for chicken. only a few ingerdiants. a little high in sodium and has about 5 carbs i think (but im pretty sure they are carbs from the peppers) and 2g of it is fiber
@PibbXtra08 Hmmm... The Buffalo Sauce I use most often is 0g -- Frank's. You might want to read the ingredients on it, because typical Buffalo sauce is cayenne pepper, vingar, and salt. I wonder where the fiber and stuff is coming from.
the brand I use is texas Pete. and the only ingrediants that could possibly have carbs are the peppers and then there are like perservatives (sodium benzoate and xanthan gum) but the peppers probably have carbs and fiber
@PibbXtra08 I checked the Texas Pete web site, and the carb count for one cup of the hot sauce of the sauce is 2.5g (fiber and other carbs). 1tsp of the hot sauce would be 0g. It looks fine to use.
right but they have a hot sauce and a buffalo sauce. i use the buffalo sauce. im looking at the label right now and it says 5 total carb 2 fiber for 2 tablespoons
Sugar is only used in *iodised* salt to stablise the iodine. The amount is miniscule, maybe a few milligrams (thousandths of a gram) per teaspoon of salt. Even "saltaholics" don't eat enough salt for the carb content to be meaningful. And the iodine *is* an important nutrient, though if you get it in a supplement, you can probably go to the non-iodised salt and be OK.
Spices are great and yes you do ned to check the ingredients in them for additives. Once I even checked my brand of table salt (Windsor) and it had sugar listed in with the salt as well as a few other things I did not want. I switched brands and the Windsor salt went right in the trash.
Wow table salt with sugar that is a new one for me. As you saw in this video, my seasoned salt had to be tossed or only used for the kids. They definitely like to hide sugar and sweetness into almost everything.
I was surprised by the sugar in the table salt as well considering it was a brand I had always used but never checked the label. I guess this lesson for me is to always check the labels, even if you do not think something forbidden might be in there. Also thanks for the tip regarding maltodextrin. I never knew it was a starch and when I looked it up further I realized that a celiac such as myself should never eat it. I would have tossed the seasoned salt. Kids don't need refined sugars IMO.
I've found spices to be almost an absolute essential part of any kind of diet that limits what you're eating. I'm not doing 100% Atkins but I'm still aiming for mainly low carb, lower calorie things, especially cutting a lot of the "hyper sugared" things... spices save the day.. thyme, dill weed, ground ginger, white pepper, Emeril's Essense, soy sauce, and my personal favorite, curry powder
Yep there are many roads to being successful, but the most likely one is one not to be boring. One that encourages you to be active in the kitchen again as opposed to my former life as a frozen-pizza-processed food-vore (as opposed to a omnivore) is likely to leave you healthier too.
Sorry for all the questions....Can you have (green, white, yerba mate, herbal teas) on Atkins? I drink these religiously so was just wondering. Thanks again and Congradulations on all your goals that were meet with the Atkins diet. :)
Teas are fine on Atkins Diet. You may want to watch the caffeine though. A percentage of his patients stalled while consuming it. It is a "your miles may vary" thing.
Hi..I know Atkins diet can work, I had lost 50lbs with it before I had my twins. I was just wondering what your doctor thinks of you being on Atkins, and if you had any changes in your bloodwork from being on Atkins? One more question after the maintenance part of Atkins can you incorporate concord grapes, or is that a no no??? Thank you for your recipes and your videos they are great.:) Oh yeah is yogurt out of the question on Atkins? Take Care and have a great Christmas. :)
What piece of the blood work would like to know? My total (153) and LDL (98) cholesterol dropped 50 points. My triglycerides dropped nearly 100 points. My doctor supports me and actually recommended I continue it when I first started.
Grapes are certainly allowed within your CCLL even on OWL during the "other fruits" rung.
Yogurt is allowed back on dairy rung. I like the lower carb stuff - Kroger has an awesome brand.
Kent thanks so much for these videos...I'm not following an atkins type diet, but I am trying to watch what I eat and lose weight. Luckily I found the KC Masterpiece bbq sauce and while I really don't care for bbq, this was really good :) Please keep up these informative videos :)
Hey there is nothing wrong with simply being conscious of one's excess sugar intake. I am fortunate that there are still a number of companies like KC Masterpiece or Heinz that recognize there still is market who doesn't like HFCS in all their food. As long as people still find them useful, I am glad I can provide a service.
Depending on the diet before hand, it usually takes about 3-4 days before the glycogen stored in the muscles is consumed, and the body consuming almost strictly fat for fuel. Both peanuts (nuts and seeds rung) and popcorn (starchy vegetable rung) are for the OWL phase of the diet.

You can also use bacon as a spice
spamllpitdept 2 years ago
Bacon is simply a gift from God and should be used liberally in sweet and savory dishes.
