Hello Dave, the tremolo can be softened up by removing 1 or 2 springs from the back of the guitar but if your after a tremolo (surf) sound thats more to do with the amp settings than the guitar. Hope that helps mate. Daz

the tremolo on the jazzmaster is awful, trust me. the strat type bridge in this is FAR more reliable. i used to own a jaguar, my brother has this guitar and this one stays in tune way more easily. also, this guitar sounds awesome!
