Facebook Privacy?

All of your carefully set up privacy 'tweaks' are a lie. Facebook is inherently insecure and the dangers far outweigh the benefits for me. 83 friends? Good number? Sounds more like 83 people who can potentially have insecure computers or can inadvertently share pictures or other information you would prefer to keep private with others which can potentially come back to bite you in the ass.

I have several groups - Family, Farmville, Frontierville, WoW, and a couple of others. Then you can go to "Privacy Settings", go to "Custom" and then when you click on "who can see this" dropdown menus, you can add Custom groups to allow only that group to see it, while excluding everyone else. This keeps my phone number, address, private information, that kind of thing, separate from peole I've only added for facebook games. It also prevents people from just googling me and finding it out.

To answer your question, I don't say anything on Facebook that I wouldn't say in real life. It's that simple. No one needs to know I just took a shit. All these people leaving public page messages for someone they want to or just got through screwing is insane. They have private messages for that, and even then you might just want to pick up a phone and say "Hey! Great lay last night!" period.

Those who NEED to know something, they know it already, so I just post photos, statuses and links on there. I accept almost everyone. Another thing is that I have a lot of friends from other countries and this is a good way to connect with them. And if there's someone u don't like, you can always use the "hide" button! =)

Dillon this may sound a bit OTT but I arrange all my friends into groups. I currently have around 5 or 6 groups all with different access levels. As a non-friend, my profile is about 2% viewable. My family in my "Family" group can view, for example, family photo albums... those special private moments close to me and my family, but most of my friends don't have access. And the reverse is true because I don't allow my family to view certain photos or photo albums on a particular "uncut" nature...

okay... i have about 900 friends.. and what i do, is i bring down the notifications, and **(at first)** i ignore the "Posted something on your wall" and "Commented on your status" ..anything like "Commented on your wall post," "Commented on your picture" and basically ANYTHING that is not going to be in my wall i "Right click" and i "Open in a new tab" then i go about it, tab for tab. but mostly i request they talk to me in messages, or talk on only one wall post for a while, and no status tags

I do spring cleaning of superfluous friends every spring break. First I delete people I've never met or met only once, then I do another deletion wave of people who I wouldn't care if they died. Even then I don't post everything about myself or my activities; I learned my lesson when it interfered with my job as a student assistant at my school. I probably won't quit facebook anytime soon until then next big social network emerges. But if things get really bad I'll venture back to livejournal.

I have 500 and some friends on facebook which actually isn't a whole lot. I've met all of them in real life before and I don't mind them knowing about my facebook activity, favorite music, etc. haha. I don't really have anything to hide and I enjoy getting to know other people. You can also set your profile so that only friends can view it among many other options so I don't really understand the problem with privacy settings.

I just dont think that facebook should be reflective as persay you. I think that facebook should just be a means of communication to a very large group of people at the same time. It doesnt need to be your real friends that are just on there it could be anyone. The way i see it is that the people who are really your friends are the one's you actually talk to, and your "friends" are just on facebook meerly to invite you to things or have an interesting conversation with. That's what i think of it
