lol at KFC........ I love tokyo and japan..... I will go there with two good friend of mine. We will go to the tokyogameshow and than roadtrip in japan.
I bet you must of felt like a Fat kid in a Candy store when you first walked inn to the Super Patato. I know I for a fact I would stay broke if I ever go to the Super Patato. Nice Vid. man
Wow great store.. I love how they still carry alot of old systems and old games.. over here in europe.. hardly any retroshops like this.. Mostly just the new stuff. Wii, PS3, Xbox 360.. Great vid!
Ahhh, brings back so many memories. I used to love going around akihabara and finding awesome deals and tons of rarities. Could spend a whole day there without even realizing it. I never liked Super Potato though, they have tons of cool things but they know it's popular among the tourists and therefore overprice everything. You could find everything in there for cheaper in other places nearby.
Funny name for a gaming store. Some game shops here in the States dont even plastic wrap used systems. Looks like Super Potato really caters to gamers.
There is a place called Pink Godzilla in Seattle that sells retro stuff and even has a website but that's the closest thing in the states that i've seen to this.
I'm not 100%sure but I didn't want to take any chances. If they said sorry than I couldn't get any footage but I do know that from past experiences at other shops trying to take pictures, they told me to leave my camera with the front people or not to enter.
Ah, ok. I don't see why they would shun cameras. I think it'd be a great way to advertise their stores. I never would've known about Super Potato if it weren't for youtube. x3
I really think a place like Super Potato would work here in the states if someone had the heart and drive to make it happen. Gamestop and places like it really lost the heart in classic and used gaming and just do it to make a profit. Someone wanna buy me 3 story loft space somewhere :D
Yeah, going into this shop is really dangerous. I thought I'd just pop up to see what they had and make a video on it an I walked out with a bag of game stuff
: ( It's such a temptation to buy everything you see there by whipping out the old credit card and saying "I'll take that and that and that.......ect"
Really it's a niche market. Some people like the old games but it's not as many as the ones who like the brand new state of the art stuff. I think that people around there 30's who can relate to this stuff will know what it's about but any later than that and you'll have people talking about how they remember their first system....the psx.
Not so many stores like this around Japan, mostly major cities maybe 1 or 2 but here in Akihabra, it's like takin a trip down memory lane
Thats like, how big full of games. The game stores in australia are usually the size of a small deli maximum and they very rarely sell old school stuff...But this is lined with it, must go to SUPER POTATO
cool i want to see more. things are better there. i want move there someday. its hard to find stores in the US that have all the old games i want and the US arcades are dead just some malls have them were i live man this makes me kind of mad
For sure. It's hard to find this many flashbacks in such a small space. Just walking down the aisle took me through a time portal back to when I was young
lol, No need to envy me, The day I went in here, I bought like a few old games but it cost me $150. Wayyyy to damn much. Never shoulda stopped in but I figured that since I was in Akihabs I needed to make a vid for all to see.
I know you would and you'd never leave. Just like gamestop however, the people here know nothing about the games or equipment they have. I asked one guy for an ac adapter for a PCE Duo and he tried to sell me one for a PCE Interface unit. I told him to his face that it was wrong but he insisted he was right so I told him to open one of the PCE Duo boxes and see for himself and he did......nothing but "I'm Sorry" about 10 times. Ahhhhh!
There's not too much in the way of Retro shops in the UK, CEX used to cover loads, and the second biggest game retailer, GameStarion used to have a section in each store.
Out of curiosity, there's a big retro thing in Japan, do they have any sort of craze for importing US and European games there like we do? Do they go mental over "ooh, it's Western!" Etc.?
not much, but in super potato osaka they have an european sega mega drive castlevania for..........(insert drum sound here) 20000 yen!(around 140 bucks) 0_0
Actually there are a few shops that specialize in European and US games but not that many because either (A) the games were made/released here first and are originally Japanese games (B) They usually cost more to buy because of the import cost which jacks up the price and (C) because only a small minority of people here can speak/understand English, it would be really painful to play a game that they couldn't understand.
Really? I'd be sure there would be some sort of hardcore that collected American and British gaming consoles out there. (like the CD32 and the GX4000)
But it's been like that on my neck of the woods, if we couldn't wait for a game, we'd import it from Japan, unless it was text heavy like an RPG, then we'd wait for the US release. But towards the end English versions were being released in Hong Kong officially BEFORE Japan. I got Ocarina of Time about four months before the US & Japan.
Dude, you read my mind. Super Potato would be my nr 1 reason for going to japan :) Heard it was a bit more expensive than other retrostore, but im pretty sure i'd be okey with paying a bit extra just for the atmosphere in there! :)
It is a whole lot more expensive than other stores but you pay for them to carry everything you want and things you have never seen before : ) You could spend all day in this shop and it has 3 floors with the 5th floor being an arcade room. It's pretty kick ass
i live in oklahoma and i have wanted to move to Akihabara for awhile. but i have 2 daughters and it would be 2 hard to just up and go to japan lol.

I'm going to try to make it there if/when I go later this year. I wanna check out the SNES and Dreamcast games.
How did you know the exact direction? It looks intimidating to find it, but I guess the big signs do really help as landmarks.

I had some time to waste, so I tried finding Club Sega and Super Potato on Google Maps. And I found them both! :P
Technology these days is insane, I could literally follow the path you walked on Google Maps! o_O
Useful to know, I suppose, if I ever make it there.
