"It was bound to happen, you pissed off the wrong guy and he took a shotgun to your hull. Now you have to fix it in order to exact revenge on him and his. Here's how to get you back on the water for the next six gun shootout.".........................WTF IS THIS???????wat? you vid needs to be better, should have set the boat on fire.
@runninonempiy The ice scraper was used to remove the foam from the inside of the hull. That stuff sticks like glue and when old breaks into tiny bits. Imagine gluing styrofoam peanuts to a surface and later removing them completely. It ended up going through a section which was slightly delaminated (two layers which came loose).
i have a really important question...i just bought a 2002 gtx seadoo and the bottom needs abit of work. theres a lot of deep scratches, some soft spots and a hole.
i know that you cant use bondo so what i really need to know is what kind off kit(products) or what steps do take to fix this problem ??? please hit reply
@robertdeuce you buy 3m fiberglass mat = 7 dollars 3m fiberglass resin liquid hardener = 5 dollars and 3m fiberglass resin = 1 quart 15 dollars /1 gallon 36 dollars depending on how much u need and u can get it at home depot
hey Hippie, i have done alot of glass and gel. i like to use matt when finishing a surface and woven roving for strength . i like to build up an anchor behind the holes edge (so repair will not pull out) . once kicked i grind or fair it out, then start to build it back up. i never ever wipe ground glass with anything!! besides a brush. not even acetone . contamination leads to failure!! cheers................
Just Matt? Why not put a layer of roving between the matt to make a one and a half ply patch instead of just matt .10 times the strength of just matt. For even better results, make your taper on your glass attachment at least 5 to 1 and put back the same as what is there still.
For outside-only hole repairs, you can grind a wider swath around the hole to make a wide depression (for new glass to rest). As long as you can lay fiberglass across the hole without it sagging too much, you can simply layer it on from the outside until it is slightly bulging, then sand it flush with the existing hull. The key to an outside-only repair is surface area for the new glass to attach. Good luck.
@amazonhippie just inject some epoxy or resin in between the layers with a syringe.drill small holes in the seperated layer but not the next layer to inject as entry pint for the resin syringe . then patch the injection site. and sail
@womackke That's what we ended up doing. It was just one side of one hull. We drilled about 30 holes through the outer layer only, filled them with resin, then compressed it. It worked pretty good. We still have to patch the holes, but that's simple. Thanks for the advice. :)
the next rock will bounce that patch right out of there needs rovings and more overlap

Why did you not do all that from the inside and put the gel coat on first from the inside and it would have bin eaiser to do the outside

@breeze344 If I were a teacher, I would be more practiced at teaching and, therefore, better at it. Welcome to YouTube, MIT is down the hall.

Can anyone count how many times the words 'actual' and 'actually' are needed to repair the hole?

What do you suggest for a hull that cannot be accessed from the inside?
I have a 16' catamaran. The 2 layers on one side of one hull have separated.

Thank you.
I'm definitely gonna need some good luck.
I'd really like to re-cover the whole thing with a new layer of fiberglass, but I'm not willing to spend the money. It's a junker project.
What if I used some strong upholstery or nylon fabric?
Have you ever heard of anyone fiberglassing with regular fabric?
If so, what were the results?
amazonhippie 2 years ago
@amazonhippie I've never heard of someone doing it like that.
