I'm curious how people search for the "one" till the point of purchase. I bought my mac because I liked using it, I still do. I used it before at school's lab and decided to buy it. Since then, I alway use mac and never return to PC. How about you?
thanks for the 411 Am planing to get a new computer on black friday am looking for an all in one pc. Though I need a energy saving star computer these days you can save lots.
try upgrading your cpu or gpu in most laptops..... it is not competing with desktops. video audio network keyboard mouse, one wire and it can also be a tv. It is not what alot of pc users consider when they buy, but it has awesome uses and competes favorably to any imac piece of shit. apple is for close-minded people who like to be told what software they can run. those i'm a mac and i'm a pc ads are perfectly inverse in terms of their representation of pcs and macs.
What all of these nitpickers dont understand is that the convenience and size requirements of this PC are nice. As someone who fixes upgrades and sells custom systems to people, I have learned, against my tastes and instincts that this system has awesome niche uses. When this was sold, you could buy it and set it up in a kitchen with only a power cord. You could run a powerful desktop system and have much better performance than a laptop with a fixed keyboard. upgrade ram and HDD with no prob
Is anyone really so space limited that this is necessary? If so, why not get a lap top? These all in one units severely limit your ability to upgrade. Why bother?
With all due respect, FreeCompConsultant, I understand the efficienct use of space units like this provide, but when a laptop can also accept a wireless keyboard, I just don't see the logic in this. What if you'd like to add a second optical drive? You'd have to have an external. Can you upgrade the RAM? What if you'd like to upgrade your video card later? These all in one units seem to be a limited use, one trick pony to me.
I have clients that use these for their customers. The unit is mounted on a wall, the keyboard moves freely about 4 feet away. A laptop simply would not work.
A laptop with a screen this big would cost more.
It all depends on the application.
For you, it obviously is a bad choice, so don't buy one.
For certain others, it makes perfect sense. Not everyone uses their PC exactly the way you do.
I understand that certain applications call for varying equipment. You've made a great point there, FreeCompConsultant. The unit you are featuring costs $1600 with just 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD. For that much money, you can easily get a laptop with more RAM, more HDD space AND an external monitor up to 24" - 30". So, forgive me, because I think I see where you're coming from, but again, how would anyone justify the cost of this all in one when you can achieve much more for much less?
IF IT FITS THE APPLICATION BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE, THEN IT IS WORTH THE COST!!
Look at when this video was uploaded. This video was uploaded 2 years ago. Prices have changed since then, right?
This particular unit is not even available for sale anymore, so debating current cost / features with a 2 year old PC that isn't for sale anymore is rather ridiculous.
As far as I know, inflation during the last two years has desktops VS. notebooks. VS. All In Ones priced similarly in relation to eachother.
I submit to your logic that where a particular application is ideal, it could very well be worth the cost to those who seek such features. No arguement there. Again, I didn't mean to insult, or offend you. Thank you, Sir, for your time.
Just try upgrading disc drives, video cards, processors, RAM, etc. Good luck. This is a convenient device, but no, thanks. I don't like being stuck with stock.
i have one of these, but mines red in the back. so far, i have had a great time with mine. everything is amazing. but the only trouble i came into was when i had to plug in a vga cable, but sadly, this one doesn't have a vga port, i had to buy an adapter for it, witch was a waist of money
wow my asus laptop cost me 732 dollars, 4gb of ram, 500gb hardrive, intel core 2 processor. Dell used to make good computers back in the day. But now their's are rated shit!
Dont buy this computer I bought it Sept 10th and within 25 days started giving me problems! I am passed my 21 days wont refund me my money wont send me replacement. Keeps crashing no I dont have any viruses. I have been on the phone with dell 4-6 hours a day trying to resolve the problem they are going to send technician out now. Lets see if that works. I am so stressed I have a business need computer lost lots of time and money since!!! Plis the 2 thousand I spent on this system!
Apply more pressure to get a technician out sooner. You don't have to spend that much time with them.
If it isn't fixed, call them again and get a technician again. There is a lemon clause if they cannot fix it, and they should get you a different unit if that is the case.
Thanks for the advice. Today I talked to them 19th time nd they finally agreed to send someone out. I wonder why they were trying to avoid it. The tech is going to replace hard drive and mother board or so they said. I have to wait for tech to call me and set up time and date. I hope that doesnt take long. I need to work on payroll and accounting for my home business. I literally want to cry this has been hell.
This PC gets VERY HOT over 90 degrees. I can not see it last for many years to come with such high temperatures. No one talks about it but try to have your pc on for more than 2 hours, then place your hand on it and you'll see.
in that case i don't want it. i'm usually on my computer all day. i can't have the processor overheat while i am uploading a youtube video or playing a game.
you have a good fan in your computer. my laptop's fan lets it get hot after 30 minutes :( so i got an external fan and it helps a little, not alot. :( oh and im on a gateway nv52. the fan in that laptop isn't all that great. other than that the laptop is great!
i have had this a week and i havn't turned it off yet since i got it and its nice and cool. never got hot. i don't even use a cooler. ur lieing it doesn't get hot
this is essentially a laptop: Dell takes a system board from (one would hope) one of their best laptops, a 2.5" laptop drive (a full size 3.5 drive is unlikely to fit in there), a nice widescreen flat panel and packages it all in a sleek enclosure behind the flat panel and you've got an "All-in-One" like this one
the upright mounting optimizes airflow allowing them to keep the noise level down, too ... I rather like the packaging idea and execution, with often-used ports right on the side
i have a ps3 for bul-ray, and even better all 3 consoles for games.I think Macs are better because its "harder to get viruses and even better, you can insall xp and vista on it. Same that comes with the all in one

Not when you play games its not quiet and it gets hot. The jbl speakers dont work very well and the system crashes all the time! So thats good you love yours I hate mine!

can you do more reviews on this machine; handling applications and stuff, movie playback, using the remote, keyboard and mouse (i've heard a lot of customers given bad reviews on the keyboard and mouse saying that it doesnt work correctly and that they had to purchase another keyboard and mouse from another manufacturer to eliminate the problem.
have you done any gaming? i am thinking about this computer but im not sure because i do a lot of racing sims and that could really be the only downer
I like the Inspiron one 23 better.

great vid,
but this xps is a massive waste of money.
the gpu is dire and i doubt it would even play any medium spec game. the fps count would be in single digits.
having said that, the pc is nice to look at and well designed, but what if anything goes wrong? the whole unit will need to be shipped out.
building your own pc is still the way forward, and a hell of alot cheaper.
plus you will have a far more powerfull pc than what dell can give you.
kudos on the vid tho, was well done.
dshantalla 3 years ago
Thanks for the response.
With this unit, target customer is the key. College students probably want a laptop, not this.
Retirees with a condo LOVE THIS UNIT.
Many in between find it a good fit also.
Gamers are likely going to benefit from building their own, just as you have said.
As for shipping it out, forget it. Make sure you get the warranty plan where Dell comes to you!
Thanks for commenting.

Nothing can beat the iMac

I understand your love for the iMac, but how much does this much power cost in an iMac?

can you do more reviews on this machine; handling applications and stuff, movie playback, using the remote, keyboard and mouse (i've heard a lot of customers given bad reviews on the keyboard and mouse saying that it doesnt work correctly and that they had to purchase another keyboard and mouse from another manufacturer to eliminate the problem.
