I love the creativity in this project. I have shown it to my fourth grade class and it has been given a rousing ovation. You must be proud of your work, and dedicated to going the extra mile. Thank you for sharing this with the world
I don't think people realise that this is metaphorical, comparing the 3.8GA years of earth history to one year of human life, it's all about ratios. It allows us to have a better view of our relative time on earth - 5 seconds, compared to the 11 months of natural history it took for us to get here. Good presentation, I understand it. I think Bill Bryson used the same analogy. It might be good to start off with a note saying "The geological time scale in 1 year" or something similar.
@uhdsg hmmmm, I would like to engage you in further discussion if you would consider writing a comment that would provide for an intellectual conversation. I would have to assume from your first statement that a stimulating conversation may be out of your reach.
This is really awesome!! I love the claymation and editing. I especially love the ending, when you said "humans don't realize how old the earth is until..." and the video rewinds through the last few minutes. There is an element of twist and suspense. You were successful in engaging your audience and connecting them and the present moment to the vastness of geologic time. It really is very well done!!
Nicely done and good explanation of geologic history. The only problem that I have is the inclusion of "according to the geologic timescale." A better statement would be "according to the evidence." You did inadvertently explain this with your attribution of "everything" to god/jesus/holy spirit.
Perhaps with more education you will realize that the world was not created after the domestication of the dog.
Perhaps you should not assume you understand what the student's education involved. The last statement you made clearly indicates you have made a presupposition. A better way to inquire about the student's position is to ask questions. It would be good questions which causes one to become a critical thinker. I teach my students to acknowledge their bias and ask questions. I would encourage others to do the same.
I will pass your comments along to the student. Thank you for posting.
I think the video is great, I am a geologist myself, haha. It scared me at first because there is no mention in the start of the video about the clock anology you would be using. Also I was probably being over critical I do this sometimes. The video was good and I did like the ending LOL, hope its not a bet the writer wins!
