@lilimort It is available in IMSLP. Browse through Handel scores and download the volume called "Cantate con strumenti I". You'll see the cantata listed as "Delirio amoroso" and this aria "per te lasciai la luce" is also listed.
maybe because it's full of 'quick' emotions, maybe because it is an epiphonema (a sentence with some kind of exclamation mark) ? I don't know, but I think it's quite logical that they speed up the tempo there
well.. it's all beautiful what you say but I don't agree with epiphonema. I think If Handel would have wished the speading up tempo he would have composed it differently.
Instead he used general rest with the word "FERMA". I am sorry but the speeding up is an abuse.
Why, isn't it obvious that she is chasing Thyrsis in her delirium and trying to stop him from leaving. If she is asking him to stop, the pace must be fast there. Otherwise she wouldn't have to say "stop". It's like running after a moving bus and yelling stop, you know. I see no abuse there only some dramatic interpretation.
Yes but it's not what Handel had in mind: when he sees a sudden change of emotion he 'composes' it, to make an example just look at "Piangero' la sorte mia" from Giulio Cesare. In the case of "Per te lasciai la luce" Handel does not change the tempo, neither the musical 'material'. He only inserts silences. I'm sorry to disagree with you, but I see the speeding up here as something not matching with the construction of the aria.
It's pretty obvious that they're not at all related. This one is a gorgeous aria composed by a genius. Josh Groban's "Per te" is some Italian pop song.
Thanks for helping reply to comments while I am asleep:) Youtube is an amazing tube:))) Kidding aside, I'm glad you appreciate the score, the performers and of course, the compser. Handel's music is priceless.
Atsushi Sakai is so good. Like you said, my love, it's a wonderful duet. A love duet. His bass viol caresses Natalie's beautiful voice with very graceful ornamentation.
Incredibile cantante..!!

i think the aria, entirely, should be a bit faster :)
arpicordio 2 years ago
@olintoarsenio It's just a different interpretation, one I really like. Changes up the feel a bit, which makes the da capo so much more heartrending.

Absolutely stunning. Natalie Dessay's voice is angelic. She magically brings a celestial voice to a sorrowful piece.

The score is on the website of the Münchener Digitalisierungszentrum (easy to find via Google). They have an English version.
Digital Collections > Brief Overview > Händel, Georg Friedrich - Complete Works > Volume 52a

Are you sure its volume 52a? I looked through that volume and could not find it...

Page 9 (theirs), you could find the Index. The aria is page 142 (Chrysander).
