I saw them on this 1983 tour in Austin at a place called Clubfoot. I remember, aside from the awesome music that Bernard had a cool haircut. I tried emulating it along with my hip Raybans at the time. I miss the 80's.
@ stellaviolens.Perhaps they were trying to experiment with their live sound as opposed to what it sounded like on their studio/album recording.OK after 1986 they were just following trends but before then they really took chances and pushed classy modern music more than any other UK group.
Beautiful live recording of one of New Order's more ethereal songs gives a good, plangent swim in the intensity, pulse, and symphonic dreamscape of the PC&L period.
To be honest, I consider this the closing act of the most ambitious and heartfelt period of N.O. After this, they turned to the dance floor and cyanide-laced pop and made some great music, but never with this much aesthetic exploration and commitment.
The ghost of Ian Curtis hovers over this, to its everlasting benefit.

reminds me of neon lights and ohm sweet ohm, has that similar epic, but at the same tame naive sound to it

One of their best, though Kraftwerk have more than an influence on this track.

I saw them that year promoting the new LP and this was one of the most memorable songs from the set. It sounds fantastic at high volume.

favourite song,
favourite song title
from favourite album,
with favourite album artwork.
Sounds a heck of a lot like Kraftwerk, but they put some heart into the machine

I liked the artwork apart from the back cover.
Getting this LP in March 83 was an event and it only cost £3. What a bargain.
Fantastic opening song too.

early 80s, once Ian "left", the group began to experiment with new sounds that became more and more synth-based and less intense

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Ian had to die to allow the music to move on.

Drums sound really great. So harsh, like the sound of industry almost.

They sound a bit like Harmonia here, very krautrock-ish.
