  • good thing bad guys have awful aim

  • so cool, this part was filmed in northern canada

  • @coreysib Mt Asgard!

  • The song needs MORE COWBELL!

  • @70sfred

oh, and by the way, you're not old!!! haha!

  • @70sfred

haha. yeah, Roger Moore is in fact the best. :)

  • Jackie Chan and James Bond movie have best stunts

  • this movie is cool and in some parts funny

  • This stunt was performed by an American lawyer called Rick Sylvester, the most expencive stunt to that date.

  • @ingareinar007 Such a crazy stunt, unbelievably risky! Probably the expense was due the remote and ridiculously inaccessable location

  • Roger Moore added a Pinache and Suaveness To the Role of James Bond that Sean Connery didn't.

Sean was Ice Cold and Funny at Times. Roger Moore was Funny, Cute, Saracastic and always about to do something Cute, Ic Cold and Hysterical at the Same Time.

  • "The Spy who Loved me" is my favourite Bond movie, it's got this cold vibe to it that really worked for me. Generally it just feels like the most stylish, polished and complete Bond movie.

  • Ronald McDonald sure knows how to ski.

  • Glad they gave him a colour to camouflage him in snow :P

  • This is a classic scene. Even if you are not from Great Briton, which I am not, it gives you goose bumps when the parachute opens to reveal the flag. This scene made me start watching James Bond.

  • 9 people didnt like the Union Jack

  • @kamalis75 fuck em.......

  • sean or roger whos the best James Bond?

  • @sodbuster925 I prefer Roger Moore because of his persona, but I like Sean Connery. He's pretty badass.

  • @sodbuster925 Great question but connery might have to get it.

  • best ever bond intro!!! and the intro music.........yes this is the funky mid 70s!!!

  • its all done with CGI of course. too dangerous to really try that crazy ass jump

  • @whirrandchime HAHAHAHAH, CGI wasn't invented until the 90's, 91 I think, and the CGI in the 90's were crap

  • @TheRitchardgaleHater I don't know what the first computer effect in a movie was, but the first fully CG character was in 1985's Young Sherlock Holmes.

  • @whirrandchime That was a real jump off a real mountain by a stunt guy, which was spliced in later with the other shots. The mountain was in a remote part of Canada.

  • @whirrandchime Too dangerous LOL you obviously don't get out much! This was one of the first ski-base jumps.

  • @whirrandchime No man, This is mount Asgard in Canada and the stuntman who jumped was Rick Sylvester. A pioneer in base jumping

  • At the begining it sounded like a 70's porn flick music.

  • @jakep1979

This was the Giorgio Moroder, disco era. Who can blame them?

Back then this sounded very modern and a far cry from the Bond of the 60's.

  • It is a little known fact that Roger Moore performed all his own stunts.

  • @darkarts59 You're on crack! He did NOT.

  • Best Bond stunt/opening ever.

  • British flag parachute FTW!

  • Smart flip move at 01:04 what a lovely stunt with some stylish guitar tabs.Absolutely the Crown of all bond movies, definitely a trendsetter movie of modern bond version inducted all spicy ingredients by that movie.Roger moore proud of that movie himself & every movie lover +bond follower loves that movie.

  • Smart flip move at 01:04 what a lovely stunt with some stylish guitar tabs.Absolutely the Crown of all bond movies, definitely a trendsetter movie of modern bond version inducted all spicy ingredients by that movie.Roger moore proud of that movie himself & every monie lover +bond follower loves that movie.

  • This is a bigger jump than any of you realise. The inital scene is shot in Switzerland. But the jump scene is shot in Canada. Hence he starts off in Switzerland and ends up in Canada. Thats definately Gold Medal stuff even by Winter Olympic ski jump standards :)

  • Definitely needs more cowbell.

  • so how many feet did he use to open the chute??

  • I started watching 007 when he was acting his last one. I've always preferred Roger over Sean and the others just 'cause I thought he had all it takes and he added also some english sense of humor which was fantastic. Yeh Roger was the best for me :)

  • Roger moore is the best bond .

  • @MegaPorkinator

too Bad Roger Moore's last film has been the awful "Boat Trip" movie. somebody needs to tell him to have a cameo in the next bond film or to get a new cannonball run movie ! just kidding. but seriously its a shame he has practically retired with a bad movie as his last film.

  • This scene needs more cowbell.

  • @Ro1ism thank you for advice. In addition to the jump stunt it seems an excellent piece of camera work too, following Rick down.

  • ooo...ski almost gets caught in parachute.

  • this is epic!!!!!

  • @0DukDuk0 Shane McConkey filmed a spoof of this with Matchstick Productions - however that was about 30 years later. It's on Youtube, look it up.

  • They tried to copy this scene in Goldeneye with the bungy jump down the dam. It's nowhere near.

Later they tried to copy the scene where they fight for the parachute at the start of Moonraker, but they only managed to have him falling faster than the aeroplane and get inside it. It isn't as good either.

Then we got a secret base hidden under a water filled volcano crater, first seen in You Only Live Twice.

And then you realize Goldeneye is just rehashed old ideas we've already seen before...

  • wow kiss ass scene it never gets old

  • Daniel Craig was the worst james bond EVER, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery were the best bonds. The new movies with craig sucked

  • @locactus500 You're an asshole. Daniel Craig has done a fine job as Bond. His performances are convincing and he has excellent range as an actor. His Bond is grittier and darker than the rest, which might be the reason you dislike him; you clearly prefer your Bond to be dainty and that he keep his hair in place with product during his fights -- this says something about you.

  • Roger Moore was the best James Bond ever for me. I grew up watching this 'cause my grandpa really likes Bond movies. This one is my favorite movie too. So cool!

  • Magic!

  • Almost as funky as an episode of Buck Rogers!

  • If I was a spy, I don't think I would wear a yellow/red ski-suit. Lol

  • why he not camo

  • Neat and memorable scene. The sad part is that was Barbara Bach's lover that he killed on that mountain! But how would he have known that? Besides, I am sure it would have been the last thing on his mind at the time!

  • Why take the skis off?

  • @gregvs3 I think you'd dislocate your knees if you still had your skis on when the parachute deployed.

  • @gregvs3

to eliminate the chance of the chute getting snagged on them.

  • I love the Moore films

He is the Adam West of James Bond

  • @Tacom4ster That is a great spot. For all the great moments that Sean Connery provided he could never wear a biege safari suit Roger Moore could.

  • One of the best Bond intro's. You can see that Broccoli really decided to step things up and open with a bang after the disappointment of TMWTGG and the extended break between films.

I've always wondered if they considered replacing Moore after TMWTGG, like replacing Dalton with Brosnan after the lackluster response to LTK. If so, I've never heard of it.

  • Can't help but want an mp3 of this Disco Bond theme (similar to the one they keep playing on G4)

  • It's called "Bond 77"

  • Sir Roger was GREAT as Bond...2nd only to Sean...

The other guys were good two...but the Bond films of the 60s, 70's, and early 80's just have a fun factor that the films of the last 20+ years have never fully recaptured.

  • Blasphemy.

  • one of the skis hits the parachute

  • The Spy Who Loved Me

  • LoL, I think the James Bonds films are SF because he never dies and he should but still I love the J.B. movies

  • lol ? :D

  • @jebemtimaterstoputa :) hehe it's SF i checked xD

  • I definitely agree to dear (action adventure) regarding fantastic scene and best ever bond movie,Roger moore was immaculate & dashing personality bond could be seen in that spy adventur ,any doubt then just watch that movie which undoubtedly hi octane & most stylish trend setter movies of all time.

  • This has always been my favorite bond scene... and one of my favorite scenes of any movie. And, The Spy Who Loved Me was my favorite Bond movie. Just for the record, Miss Moneypenny.

  • daniel craig sucks balls..hugh jackman wudve made a better bond...sean connery best bond ever..followed by moore and brosnan..craig doesnt even make in top 20 .

  • They had to wait days to shoot that jump as conditions were rubbish. something wasn't ready if i recall and they went ahead and did the stunt anyway as the wind dropped and they had a shedule to keep. Health and safety wouldn't alow that now. bastards. Can't fart without a gas mask these days. Bastards!!

  • very cool - a old-style bond - only these are the right bonds ... =)

which one of the many movies was this ?

  • Spy who loved me

  • Bond films have the craziest ski stunts.

  • 3 cheers to Mr Sylvester!

When I first saw this on HBO in November 1978, I honestly thought that this jump scene was some sort of visual effect concocted by way of Industrial Light and Magic (as Star Wars was a year and a half old by that time). It wasn't until around 2000 when I saw the DVD extras that I learned that this jump was 4 real! Nonetheless this movie and Moonraker inspired me to take up skydiving and (in short order) BASE jumping!

Thank you, Cubby (et al) for the inspiration!

  • this is certainly a British film lol

  • @darkmarkrammstein Ya damn right it is ;)

  • This is the most classic Ski clip ever!! Yay!? nay!?

  • Bond shot him at close range about 6 times. It was a brutal kill.

  • dude he shot him in the balls like three times then like twice in the torso, how much more hardcore can you get?

  • you are kidding right? the ending was brilliant!! bond what do you think your doing? keeping the british end up sir lol pure genius!!

  • ingareinar007, the jump was NOT done from a helicopter. It was all filmed in one shot from Canada's Mt. Asgard on Baffin Island. Rick Sylvester really did ski off the cliff and deploy his parachute. It's the best authentic film stunt ever done, even to this day.

  • Yes fourse it was done all for real here, the best payed stunt to that date. Before this 007-film, the assistant to the producer (Broccoli) Michael Wilson saw in a magazine, a whiskey commertial with a guy jumping of a cliff. That was Rick Sylvester jumping from a helicopter. He said, but I can do it for real! So he did.

  • Rick Sylvesvester is actually an lawyer. But that is not the only thing, as seen here!

  • Ehh Rick! Can you do the jump? I got to.. ehh, tie my shoes..

  • Look carefully, the ski almost hits his parashute in the jump. Special assistant to the producer, Michael Wilson, saw a magazine with a whiskey commertial. But he didn`t know that the jump was done from a helicopter. But Rick said he could do it for real!

  • The jump is real! A one-take shot! The guy is an American lawyer and a famous climber. Rick Sylvester! After the film, he and his girlfriend climbed up the same mountain near Asgarden I think it was. (Wrong spelling maybe) He was payed 30.000 dollars, a record sum at the time. He wears yellow and red, while the badys wears black. That is bechause it shall be easy in the fast action to see who`s who, like always in Bond. Fantastic film!

  • 4 guys with machine guns and they miss him .!

he takes one shot and hits one..as if

  • films are so fake why is it that people always miss their shots when they're shooting at people.

  • i remember when i did the same thing...freaky, but exhilarating. it is no fun being shot at but jumping off a cliff...priceless.

  • Efficient cowbell.

  • Gotta love that cowbell! That music is actually inspired by The Bee Gees! The title song was inspired by Mozart!

  • Actually this movie is more than 30 years old and the opening still blows me away! The best opening scene better than Goldfinger`s opening? Hmm... I would say neck to neck, that parachute is priceless...

  • Bond at his best!!!!

  • One of the best Bond openings.

  • you're a fuckin dirty lil cunt Moore is the best James Bond, second only to Connery.

  • horrible quality omg

  • So disagree yo,You could'nt do that to

    bond james bond!

  • Yes, reality is so entertaining.

  • You're a fucking retard, this was like the 70's you idiot. Movies werent about black people shooting each other.

What are you, like 7 bloody years old or something...

  • Put 1 in his ass?

I don't think anyone here cares about your sexual orientation!

  • Not Hollywood! This is a British movie.

  • really incredible skiing with that old gear!

  • Rick Sylvester is a Hollywood stuntman, most famous for his BASE jump using skis and parachute from Canada's Mount Asgard for the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me in July 1976. In 1973, he skied off the top of El Capitan and descended 3000' by parachute. This was conceived as "the world's greatest ski jump". Already an expert skier, he spent 3 weeks learning sky diving to make this jump. He has since retired from stunt work.

  • @2199 Literally copied from wikipedia ;)

  • @Eagmr so when does youtube worry about comments being about plagiarism. But yeah just wanted to who the guy who did the stunt.

  • @2199 Just mentioning...

  • @Eagmr Your the first one to comment on that. Or the first one who knew it was from wikipedia

  • @2199 I just searched it on Wiki and saw it sorry dude i wont tell it no more ..

  • @Eagmr you cool.

  • Yeah, not fake. Jump was made by stunt man Rick Sylvester. That "rip cord" that I think you are talking about, the yellow thing by his left shoulder, that is not a rip cord but rather the cutaway that releases the main. The rip cord, or more used today, a pilot chute, are located either the bottom right or bottom right of the container (B.O.C - Bottom of Container) depending on the jumper. The chase scene was made in the Alps but the actual jump was off of El Captain in 1973.

  • That takes a lot of guts, well done Sylvester.

  • Very very good ....apart from the banana coloured ski suit :L

  • It's the best, it's the biggest, it's Bond !

This is the real Bond movie's pre title.

    Not toilet fight is!

    Daniel Craig, my ass !

  • Love this opening, and I love Carly's voice......

  • Would love to go skiing there.

  • All stunt work... except for the lousy rear projections on Moore. The Bond movies had the best stuntwork ever!!

  • wonder who the stuntman was... balls of steel that geezer

  • Comment removed

  • He's Rick Sylvester, I think he freefalls off of Mount Asgard (Canada) for this stunt.

  • and the place is st moritz switzerland

  • In my eyes, Roger Moore the best Bond ever.

  • bond 77 good disco music and the stunts are real not cgi.

  • 0.00 till 0.06. this sounds are not in the music when i listen to this music at other places? why? i really like this sounds.

  • At least we know it's real. And not crappy computer graphics like in modern films.

  • it was in the 70s dont forget

  • The graphics are a tiny bit fake

  • What are you talking about? LOL do you think this was computer generated?... it was 1977.

  • well what the fuck are they meant to do then smart arse

  • Huh? I have no idea what you're trying to say.

  • what film is this one i have got all of the james bond films

  • This is the pre-credit opening for The spy who loved me

  • this hands down is the best james bond movie

  • Roger Moore was born in 1927. He is now 82. His parachute stuntman for that was an American.

  • In a Roger Moore interview, he said that the stunt almost went horribly wrong. After the stunt double skiis off the cliff, you can see his bindings letting the skis go. At 1m50s on this video, the free falling ski almost shreds the opening parachute. Lucky boy!!

  • what a great theme music!

  • The man. The myth. The maveric

  • Hrmpf!!

  • most fucking amazing opening ever.

  • Best ever bond= Sir Roger Moore.!

    he is just tha best.

  • But when he's almost 60? No man...too old for Bond. Too old. Plus, two words for you that should fill your heart with fear: Grace Jones.

  • Roger Moore did all his own stunts except banging Grace Jones.

  • Pi55ed myself when I read that.

  • The way Moore played it was camp, tongue-in-cheek, and definitely fun!

  • Big deal...I've done that!

  • Lol

  • thats awesome. in the hit list mcconkey did a really good job making his look just like it

  • Yes Best Bond Bar None - Roger Moore. He was the man ! Spy Who Loved Me , MoonRaker and For Your Eyes Only .. RULE !

  • this theme music is in all my skiing Ipod playlists

  • Why was he wearing yellow..talk about sticking out of the surroundings..love this scene though.

  • Best bond without a shadow of a doubt.

  • The best opening sequence in 007 Movie History.

Beginning of Moonraker is the second best.

  • The music at 53 seconds as Bond slides down the slope and prepares to fire back is amazing. Da da daa da. Don't make Bond films quite like this anymore. 100 percent classic James Bond.

  • this one got much more "style" then the other ski chasing scenes :)

  • roger moore the best james bond by far
