  • Durand your voice is in comparison to sports...you are michael jordan, bcuz nobody right now famous,or youtube sensation can vocally produce "better" than u...idk y ur not famous/a huge star,if justin bieber faggit Ass is a millionare now I think u deserve more cuz he not a better singer than you...u kno god loves you,I can feel a little bit of god everytime u sing

  • the way he said "Loyd" had me ROLLIN lmfao

  • @SaxyBoy91 Me too! I'm glad somebody else caught that!!!

  • i heard George Lovett's voice and his singing style sounds like how folks sing in church. How do you know George wasn't raised in Church?

  • @TheFastFreddy Because I know George personally and he said on one of his comments as well that he wasn't raised in church.

  • hypocritical church folk cause sometimes they say hurtful things without thinking. Patti did a second Gospel concert in 2007 I believe. But genious from the Motown clip said that she's not holy and her gifts belong to the Prince of Darkness. What a joke!

  • gave her talent to Satan long ago." Dumby who typed the comment didn't know that in the late 80s Patti did a TV Special called "Going Back Home To Gospel". They have a few clips of it on Youtube, Not only did Patti rock the house but she had other Gospel Greats performing as well. The Barrett Sisters, Albertina Walker, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Clay Evans, Ricky Dillard was her choir director for the show. Does this sound like something a daughter of Satan would want to do. Durand lets pray for our

  • what he is) "I aint been to church in while so work with me" talked about her to her face in front of all those people as though he were rebuking Jezebel herself. That was messed up. And she said "Well when I was volunteering in functions, cooking, and giving offering was I a no good Devil singer then." I was looking at a clip of the 25th anniversary for Motown back in the 80s when Patti was featured in the concert, do you know someone posted a comment saying "Patti sure is talented but she

  • LOL preach bro..lol yes George Lovett was not raised in noo church ..hhaa

  • lmao Lloyd lol haha that shyt cracked me up.. but who dont love George Lovette.. claps lol

  • U loves you some George Lovette!

  • Haters always talk about what and where someone else should be, and what they should be doing, and I wouldn't waste my time posting a video, about THEIR insecurities. As long as you enjoy what you do, and you not sing b****, n*****, etc and you love it and others love it, don't let the two or few who wanna tell you where you should be using your craft!

  • LOL AHAHHAHAHA a shame this vid is sooo old and i already watched it!!! but im still weak "u kno keyshia cole needa be back in church givin....*lip pop and crickets*" ahahahah!

  • Phyllis Hyman : dats my gurl!!! listen to the song Living all Alone!

your personality is sooo unique and funny! You are so funny!!,

its crazy...but I love your videos!

You throw a lot of good wisdom towards us!

  • Bekause people are haters & those kind of people will try to bring you down by any means.

  • omg i will best friend the crap outta u and mr lovett!! lol. i love u guys

  • i had to comment because you pulled out the Phyllis Hyman record!!!!

  • i see what u r saying on all four corners..i have ppl around me that say the same thing about alicia keys..j. hudson..mary j.blige..but its like God gave them their talents for a reason..who is to say that just because they are not in the Church House..that god is not pleased with the way they share their gifts. lets be serious..half of the world would not be here if it wasnt for music made by..Ms. lena horne..staple singers..sade...i might b young..but musically inclined.."Say it"

  • oh I see u have to subscribe im still kind of knew to this exuse me

  • No problem I look at ur videos all the time u are my type of singer and when u r not u have me in chicago rollin cause ur personality is like mines my friends luv to see me comin boy u be havin me bout to cum threw this damn computer and choke u 4 making laugh like that but any hoo how do I get to your latest stuff

  • Hold up I was not trying to insult anyone if i did I truely apologize It seems as though u r on the defense I was just expressing my point of view to your comments meaning that church folks shouldn't judge so much because whats going on in the world is also in the church and the preachers r always ranting about homosexuality to each is on thats where homosexualality came in at and also I agree there r alot of under cover hard brothers

  • ooooooooohhhhhhhhh. Ok.

    I misunderstood. My apologies.

  • tha reason people say u need to be back in church coz u hav the best gift and that god deserves the best so if god gave u that talent u can giv it back, dnt go afta mario he has a voice, personally i dnt think u nedd to go to church coz its your voice.

  • @alcoholharmony I understand exactly what your saying. Patti Labelle was judged by people from the church, I saw her years ago on BET'S LIft Every Voice, talking about how a minister put on her on blast in front of a congregation in her younger years because she was a secular singer. She tried to make that place her home church, she mentined how she volunteered in church functions, cooked, (you know she can cook), and did all sort of activities, gave offering too. and that jack ass, (call him

  • You make such a good point.

...I don't get it either. I just think people need to focus on the gift they have and what they want to do with rather than being in everyone elses business and judging them. The only person that can judge is God... so they need to take a chill pill..

  • Ok im tired of this shit!!!! I have some bones to pick with you!!!!

First off let your freaking hair lock so it will grow out quicker!!!

and Secondly, I dont care what you wanna do with your life, im demanding that you get yourself a singing contract and get on the map... Others need to be blessed with your God given talent.

P.S jus kiddin bout the hair, i know u do u, but im so serious bout the singing, DONT MAKE ME FIND U DURAND...lol

  • lmao!! u better say that! ijust LOVE you!...can u come 2 Texas so we can exchange vows?? lol

  • Comment removed

  • It's Because some people are jealous

  • Don't forget Keisha Cole! NOT equipped!...lol

  • and u missed seleana johnson hey WOW SHAWNA!! CAUSE I LUV HER VOICE.

  • u no thats so true they say that but its harder these days to get in gospel music than worldly music and christian folks are so judgemental its rediculous and im not judging nobody but the gospel game rite now is ran by homosexuals so who do they think they r to make it so hard to sing 4 the lord once again im not judging cause i don't like to be judged i have plenty gay friends but don't point no fingers and they have issues too seriously i luv you mr.harmony u make so much damn! sense

  • What does the gospel game being ran by homosexuals have to do with anything?

If that's the case, the Rap game is filled with liars because we ALL know the rap game is JUST as gay. If not worse. Don't let masculinity fool you.

    Sin is sin.

But back to my FIRST question: What does sexuality have to do with this video?

  • ?? I agree.. where did that come from? And I don't agree that homosexuals run the gospel game.. I'm just confused lol.. Durand is just sayin that it's his gift and he can do what he wants and religious folks are judgemental and tellin him what to do with his own talent.. so how did homosexuality come into play??

  • PREACH PREACHA!! i love your videos, u make good points

  • lloyd lol

  • Well I believe fanta and jenny were raised in the church. I usually only hear that comment when one has turned from the church...

  • Who is Keri Wilson?

  • he meant keri hilson, i think.

  • Keri who ?

  • good point. *head knod* PREACH!

  • Well I think its becuz church singers have a specific sound...usually with a lot belting and lots of runs. Jazmin's In Love WIth Another Man has real church sound becuz of the instrumentation. But its really no way 2 tell if they r frm the church besides askin becuz u cnt jus assume! lol

  • this is why so many ppl are going to hell because so many ppl are confused omg. & than to many ppl that DONT know what they are talking about are voicing their opinions & confusing more people! God is the only Judge, i don't understand all things, & some things are not meant for us to understand if we understood everything in the world we'd all be "God" there is only ONE living God. His name is Jesus. forget all this nonsense, If you wanna meet him one day get saved & live right.
  • BECAUSE...Gifts like Jazmine's, Fantasia, Jennifer, Mariah..Those are ALL clearly voices FROM GOD! Can't no studio make Jazmine...When u hear a Voice like that some ppl (as do i in some cases) feels that they need to use that GIFT that HE gave them for HIS GLORY.. its like a slap in the face to be singing about being in "Love with Another Man" and "Hood Boys" and "Touching Bodies" when They could be Winning souls for the Kingdom....Turn to your neighbor and Say Anointing" !

    Amen.

  • you told the truth and the late great Phyllis Hyman was not raised in the church!

  • phyllis is my girl!!!!!!!

  • halar!!

  • everytime u talk i find myself holdin my breathe... why is that?

  • LMFAOOO!

    omg omg, me too

everytime he talks i hold in my breath,

but i have no idea why :P

  • Your gift for God to the level that he asks/ requests of you! Which is something that you God and whomever else you decide to share it with know for sure, then PLEASE PLEASE Get on it sir (No offenses) But I pray you get the right idea to what I'm saying Bro! =D Love you man! ~1~

  • Well, not that you were refering to me because I don't say only those peope that have great talent need to use it for the purpose that God has given it to them, which is to Glorify God! But my comment is that, all!!! people no matter what their gift is needs to use it for God and for the deliverence of others! We are not here on earth to do what we want but what God has given us to do! SO, yeah that is my imput on this situation! But God Bless!! =D P.S. I don't know if you do or not but if you

  • dude is like madd gay. i dont knw why this matters but gay dudes hella funny

  • [your name] get a litter bigger, have a little more exposure, Im sure you [and artist similar to you] will hear less and less bickering about being in a pulpit. Its not like a church is the only place that you can honor God.

  • 2) Durand, I agree with what you have to say, but Id like to believe that when those more popular artists that you mentioned, when they were at your level [of exposure, not talent] they probably got the same things thrown at them. I could definitely believe that the Destinys Child girls, fresh off of Star Search [back in the day], were approached and told they, know you need to be back in church, givin yo gift to God, and the like from people. So, you keep doing your thing. When you

  • Okay, 2 comments:

    1) @some of the previous comments: church folksI tell ya. Ive said it x100 and Ill say it again, there is a difference between actual CHRISTIANS and people submerged in CHURCH CULTURE. People in cc say dumb stuff like, Honey, you know you need to blah blah blah just full of absolutes without glancing in a mirror sometimes, butI digress.

  • I feel u on this. I was raised in church and singing in the choir but I DEFINATELY ain't no where near a Jazmine Sullivan or any of them. They sing me all up under the table lol...But you have a good point

  • i agree with Zipporah20....some ppl have an anointed talent and some just have a talent. the anointed ones are the ones that make you feel like you need to be in church. so MAYBE they just mean that if the ANOINTED singers were in church, they would be making money (even tho it may not be as much as singing in the r&b/hip hop industry which is probably why they're singing r&b over gospel in the first place) but yeah they'd be making money but winning souls as well

  • I can't speak for anyone else, but with it's not about the money.

If THAT was the case, I would be persueing mainstream.

I'm more into underground ind--- independent type stuff.

  • the glasses oh yes

and you are so on point with this one

ima get me on some classical training

You YOU YOU YOU crazy lmao

  • I mite not B FULLY grasping ur irritation so 2 speak with some1 saying a secular artist shud give their lives bak 2 Christ. On the understanding that u have previously said u were a Christian. & altho u named some ppl who CAN sing...I thnk ppl tend 2 look @ ppl who sing on a more soulful level 1st because its from the heart/genuine and it usually pos. They look @ the commercial singers last Bcuz they R more "out there" so 2 speak w/their musiq. Not sayin that's rite. But they ALL need 2 B saved

  • I'm not talking about whether is saved or not.

Jennifer, Fantasia, Lil' Mo, Jazmine AND (dare I say it) Beyoncè know who Christ is and are saved... To MY knowledge.

It just gets on my nerves when people say stuff like that.

  • I think its that way cuz thats the image/sound that people have seen come from church...thats what they're used to. The Power House Vocals, instead of the more softer tones. so they automatically make reference to what they've seen through the media or their own church and categorize people according to what they grew up knowing as the "church vocals" forgetting that there's more behind it than just singing gospel.

  • Well, 1st of all, folks who say that aren't completely seeing with the "spiritual eye"...they only "see" what they hear & never really go as deep as that. Some1 with a "bold" or "big" voice will most likely get better comments than 1 with a softer tone. Doesn't mean that the individual with a softer voice has any less than a gift or talent, just that their voice isn't so "in your face". The real gift comes in when you sing with such emotion that it translates on all levels.

  • KERI WILSON!!!!!! oh yes honey. oh no. oh no no NO! Lloyd? Because! People like that...when they sing it doesnt move the soul. I love me some Marques Houston and all that...but Jazmine will bring tears to your eyes, you feel me? I don't pass judment like that, if they want to go into secular music, thats fine with me...I just think that voices like theirs are ALSO well suited for church music. I don't need to be in HIS house listenin to some, "Naaaked! Baby turn the lights down..." NO SUH! lol!

  • i LOVE how you put on those glasses and they sit on top of your nose

  • lol @ SAINTS and i kno u kno by now lol keri hilson lol and i feeeeeellllll u ur sooooo F'n RIGHT

  • Also if you or George dont know Jesus as your personal saviour then i suggest him...He's great...((SMILES))

  • I already am saved and have a relationship with all 3 parts of God.

I can't speak for George. Ask him.

  • well firstly, Cassie cant sing, she's more of an usher type...she passes out the fans and the programs hallelujah...secondly, everyone needs to be not only in church but in relationship w. God, And lastly, i say stuff like that too, but i think its bcuz wen yu can feel someones music and your feel their heart and soul in a song it shows the potential of being effective an carrying a message so you say "oh God can really use you in this area, so you should be back in church"...not to judge....

  • ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE Anointed AND SO PEOPLE THINK IF YOU ARE ANOINTED YOU SHOULD SING FOR THE LORD OR SING GOSPEL!!!! FYI FANTASIA HAS DONE GOSPELAND IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD HER SING IT YOU NEED TO HEAR IT CASUE THE GIRL BAD POINT BLANK!!!

  • 1.There's a difference between being extremely TALENTED and being ANOINTED!. Both can draw the same reactions but only 1 will make u want to change ur life.

2.And F singin @ Gospeland just means she sang a gospel song...nothing more.

But make no mistake...I'm not tryin to come @ anyone's head. Cuz I can def appreciate talent.Lauryn Hill, J.Sullivan,INdia,jill...But NOT Keshia Cole...that wanch CANNOT sing!...Bless her heart...

But yeah I was just addin to the collection plate..luv ya!!

  • hahahahahahahaha@bless her heart

  • o yew kill me...gosh i luv yew

  • keri wilson though ?

    lmao

  • iDEAD'T @ KEYSHIA COLE NEEDS TO BE...8x

    oewifwogbifrnhtwrymketush

    kut,aejkidtuoriyztduiliruyetskuryxok

    lituryrskatjzxy

    ictfiyltryskxictuofiylu;oyp.iltuskyrdtuiy,u

    rkeytuskydkuf,.gtretsyr

  • lol u sounded like u felt some type of way about that...lol

  • im happy u did not mention beyonce

  • PHYLIS HYMAN THE GREAT!

  • hey its Jazmine sullivan's- in love with another

  • u 4got ciara no singin...Lord forgive me for that

  • I SHOW'L DID!

  • KERI WILSON???? LMAO

  • lmaooo! who? hahahaha.

  • I agree with everything you said in this vid..

  • im sorry but y is that a judgin statement...i dont understand...wateva gift anybody has should give somethin bac to God...wether its through charities, outreaches, or a song...he does deserve some...alll the glory...rite?...my thing is wen ppl tell u how to give bac to God...then i have a prob cuz church is not the only way to give bac...but blah blah blah yada yada yada...yeah...my opinion:)

  • Thats what he's saying. Yes god deserves it but he doesnt like it when otherpeople try to tell him what to do with his gift. Especially when there are people whom are either just as less or more talented than him whos live s need to cleansed in someway form or fasion whether it be religious or something psycologically.

  • you left out Beyonce

  • I sure did!

    They ALWAYS come for her.

  • OMG Loves this video..Soo true.

  • I agree w/ Durand.

  • because their voices sounds the closes to how great songers in church sound

  • durand you should know that answer to your own question of "why do the most people with gifts and talents from god have to deal with so many people and their opinions"

and that itself shows that god loves us enough to show us things like this.

or maybe it actually is to build our tolerance.

and either way if i was a OUT THERE!! singer....the phuk do i care about anyones opinion when they dont even know me from a can spinach!

hope that answered ur question lol :D

  • These judge-mental looney christian's really need to get off your case. Your vocal ability is something that you have earned by practicing and indulging yourself into music. So it is your talent and no one should be allowed to tell you what to do with it. Christians are always trying to dictate someone's life and condem somebody to hell when they didn't have a hell in the first place to put someone in lol. If they were so godly they wouldn't be watching vids of u singing r&b lol.

  • Thank you lol!!!!

  • its keri hilson lol not keri wilson

  • i think he did that on purpose

  • I did. lol

  • Some people are so ignorant, his point is , decide what your gift is , and do with it what you please. Some songs uplift people and help them through situations, thats another way to use your voice as a gift, not just singing in the church. And to the idiot referencing his sexuality, God loves us and made us all.

  • let's talk about Chris Brown, Trey Songs, Jeremih... please please. SERIOUSLY!

    Mhm..

  • omg i always make that face he mad at :53 ! Wen I dont evn finish my sentence

    lol

    heez hilarious

  • Why if you're going to use the bible as a reference, please quote it. Give a scripture or verse. Don't use the bible as a trump card if you don't read and understand it.

  • uhhhh maybe cause it's a God given gift. You said it first, it's a gift. It's not just a talent, but it's more special. People have been given their gifts for a reason....... It seems to me that you feel some conviction about it otherwise you would just blow it off. Plus you know good and well that we don't want to hear no Keyshia Cole nor Britney Spears singing up in church.

  • Keri Wilson ?

  • Very Very Very TRUE OH MY GOSH IM TALKING TO THE COMPUTER!!! lol

  • lol keri 'wilson'

  • I think people say that because they listen to people who have voices with the power to move emotionally/spiritually. So when they hear someone with good vocals and a strong presentation then they think "They really put a lot of feeling into it. They can really sing. God could use their voice to lead souls to Him." That's why. I'm guilty of the same, but we do need to stop. You're right. BTW, do you feel you are right for singing r&b and you're saved? Not throwing judgement, just curious.

  • I consider myself a freestyle soul artist.

In other words, I do any genre including Gospel.

And as long as don't compromise the Holy spirit that dwells on the inside of me, I'm good.

  • One of the greatest gifts the good Lord has given after that of Jesus Christ is the freedom to choose. The Lord did give you the gift of song, but as to how you choose to use this gift he also gave you the gift of free will. Do with your voice as you please and only God can and will be your judge. So saaaannnngggg on huni. I LIVE when u do!

  • that comment was for alcoholharmony...

  • Verbally & overtly is only ONE of many ways to give glory back to God. As one grows more spiritually in tune with Christ, you come to see God in all you do, whatever genre youre singing. I listened to George Lovett's cover and I too wrongly assumed he sang in church only because Im used to hearing his singing style there.

  • Exactly. It's all about not compromising the God on the inside of us.

  • people need to stop doing that. just bcuz u can sing, doesnt mean you automatically have to sing gospel.

  • PREACH MISSIONARY!

  • ya know honey. i'm sure you're a talented fella but i'm gonna have to take this opportunity to CAST YOU OUT IN THE NAME OF JESUS! (REBUKED!) if you have a gift you have an obligation to sing for the ALMIGHTY baby.

  • O_O

    Cast me out?

  • @alcohol I BIND SATIN in the name of jesus. you speak i'll of the godly.

  • I see what kind we are dealing with.......you are not god almight himself so please hang it up. You are just one of the many judgung christians who run everyone right out of the church!

    Sheesh!

  • @jhigh4life you are very wrong and i DEMAND an apology from you now. while you tolerate the sin that is homosexuality and thereby encourage this young homosexual to burn in hell, i reach out a helping hand in hopes of SAVING his life. must feel pretty stupid now huh?

  • Once again.....you ARE NOT God, I apologize when neccessary and now is not the time. Durand is actually NOT a homosexual (there you go judging again) , and if he was, his relationship with god is none of your business ( so him burning in hell is not up to you!). Instead of helping, you are actually being quite annoying and VERY judgmental....isn't that a sin?

  • @jhigh he's not a homosexual. a ha ha ha. oh honey. of course he's not. he's a faggot. i am not god, but THE BIBLE tells me so. his relationship with god isn't something he can just make up. he has to abide by GOD'S laws not mine or his own. you are a fool

  • No you are the foo;clearly. I dont know what makes you think you are just so perfect that you can snoot your nose up at others. But last time i checked that is not what christianity is about. Just because you are a "christian"(and i use that term at the lowest degree) that you have the right to call him a faggot. He himself said he was not gay and I believe what he said. Just because he is artistic and not some macho man he has to be gay? You are very ignorant, and ignorance is bliss.

    Good day

  • It really disappoints me to see garbage like this.

This video subject is nowhere NEAR sexuality and yet you're commenting about me not only being homosexual, but a faggot to boot.

It really does my heart to know there are people like you out in the world claiming to be Christian when what you said was not Christ-like.

God will never bless you with an attitude like that.

    Good day.

  • because those girls are hot and we dont want them to get all christain and not show their assets on tv... the truth

  • wow. i bet that is kinda true.

  • Really....YOU'RE Single handedly the reason why Christians are hated, laughed at and are not taking seriously...I'm Glad is forgiving...and YOUR fate isn't left up to Human Judgement.

  • Dear naturally-yourself Durand,

the signature of western society is all power-trip talking & judging, without real life experience AND without real education, since western teachers are the 1st to bla-bla without experience.

In other words, if you were able to check on these 'know everything' people lives, you'd find they got no life, nor guts to bring out 'their own gifts'.

So, they got much time to judge & negatively criticize real doers, out of sheer & empty jealousy.

    BLESS YOU!

    LOVE,

    : )

  • Everyone's calling is different. My calling may allow me 2 sing anywhere outside the church & it NOT be "gospel". Though I will NOT sing mess.

Other people can't stray too far from "gospel" or "inspirational" 'cause they're NOT strong willed enough 2 hold onto their salvation if they don't have that constant reminder.

However, that calling was established by God for His pleasure & no one else's. He has the ultimate say as 2 what you should do w/ it & NOT people. Refer 2 God & no one else.

  • isnt it gods will for them to be singing and entertaining people? if it wasn't then they wouldn't be doing so , so i guess you could say they are singing for god and for us too

  • U can't salt the salt. Why would you sing only in church? U can't reach the world in the same 4 walls. People in general are small minded...they/we can't help it.

  • C'mon. I like that expression; "You can't salt the salt". You better say that!

  • Exactly!!!

How can we win the world to Christ by not going into the world? It says be not OF the world. We have no choice but to live in it and experience what it brings.

  • i appreciate that comment. but the word also says that we are not of this world... so if you sound, look, dress and act like the world, then how exactly are you the salt of the earth? i think there is a balance of living a seprate but holy lives but also impacting others through relationships and gifts...

  • Understood.

I just feel we can give glory to God and get people saved outside of the church walls as well as the gospel genre.

Just sharing some of my testimonies with people could allow them to see the power of God or just plain showing them the love of Christ.

I know what I have to do and that is not to compromise my relationship with God in the world.

I'm interested in relationship with God and winning souls.

  • i completely agree... but i dont agree with people saying that im not going to sing in church... where else will the Godly gift be perfected and therefore effective to those who really trully need it for the purpose of salvation.... to those people i say work on your salvation because you cannot use the word to impact but still be willingly ignorant to all of its teachings at the same time... it just frustrates me when people use God and his word as a crutch to excuse ignorance

  • could it be that people r using these great gifts to sing people away from the lord and into sin....(not purposely but all the same)

  • Yeah I have never understood that either......I am just as lost as you about the topic

  • Durand i think its because those artists that they say it about have a different class and swag about them. They are little more sophisticated, more mature then some of the younger singers today. Now i do not pass judgement and say they need to sing for God, but when i think of Jennifer hudson and Fantasia i can tell theres gonna be some story they sing to the point im going to be able to feel it with them. Then when i think of Chris Brown or Mario i think im going to have fun and dance around.

  • Are you offended sir? Because it really is a compliment. People, although they don't always know it, can sense when there is an anointing on someone's talent. We all know that there are people who sing in the industry who sing, but there's NO anointing (i. e. Brittney and MANY others these days). When people say that to you, it just means that they know that there's a Godly and important calling on that gift. FAR more important than just entertaining folk. Don't be offended.

  • Not at all. Offense is a choice.

Nut people have came at me in a judgmental way about my singing.

I feel like as long as I'm living Holy in all areas, than I'm good.

  • i think sam cooke said something like that to justify him leaving the soul stirrers for greener pastures

  • I can digg this comment ONLY 'cause that's your take on it & NOT everyone means it in the way Rand is speak'n in terms of.

However, people do pass judgment about believers sing'n anything NOT labeled as "gospel", "spiritual", "inspiration" etc.

  • what's wrong with giving the glory to god?

    i need god

and i'm sure you do too

  • Absolutely nothing!

And I need God like the rent was due last week.

I was just wondering why the "Soulful" singers get bashed as apposed to the pop singers about ONLY singing gospel.

  • maybe it's just tradition to bash the best....look at the shit sam cooke and marvin gaye had to deal with....

there seems to have always been this deep rooted rivarly of "church/gospel----vs--- secular..."...might be church folk feel like they got a patent on soulful....ps

i would still like to hear you take a crack at one on on by hall and oates

  • Keri WILSON? hehe.... so funny

  • Honey I dunno! but I do know there are artists now that just can't sing and everybody blows their head up like they really can sang!lol. Most of them sound good on track but live concerts they DON'T!

  • I feel u on this. No matter what your gift is...its between YOU and GOD on what u do with it. If he has called for u to sing Gospel then so be it. But not all gifts are meant to be given back to God..although it would be nice. If your gift is that your a great fisherman...are u supposed to fish for God? that would be foolish. If your gift is architecture...are u supposed to only build churches...FOOLISHNESS. We give in our tithes, faithfulnes, and soul winning. THE END!

  • theres something called an annointing or as some say "The Gift" and some people feel like they can pick it out and people feel when they hear the Gift , it should be used for praising God,some believe the annointing has no place but the church, i myself believe that gifts should reach all variables not just in the church...you've heard r&b songs that put you in a spirit right?

  • I guess I just want to be given a chance that I can sing all genre's and not be "wordly".

I don't believe I was born to just stay in the church, but to go out inTO the world and be an ambassador for Christ.

Regardless if I'm singing R&B or country.

Tonex is a good example of someone who has a testimony about relationship and not religion. Especially when it comes to music.

  • i mos def feel you on this....but you know how christians feel, all praises due to Christ...meaning the gifts bestowed upon you should be sent back up to God as the order of blessings flow....But I believe like you do Durand in that you can "go into the trenches" and be a crusader for Christ, without being considered worldly

  • lol @ Saints! because that was akerit. School me, Miss Crabtree. They DO NOT need to be back in church, no ma'am, no

  • WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!

    Not "School Me, Ms. Crabtree"!!!!

    LMFBO!!!!!

*Dead at the little rascals reminisce history lesson teachers assignment commentary*

  • It's more than heartfelt singing. The people you named. JHud, Fantasia, Lil Mo always talk about GOD and church and flip flop between secular music and what they have been doing most of their lives. It depends on why they sing in the church. Fantasia is talented. She does too many grinds at times. JHud is talented, her voice isn't as controlled though. Jazmine is great, she just does too many excess runs. That's the gospel style. Sometimes people confuse power and runs w/ technical ability.

  • I personally think we're used to hearing the power, runs, and grinds from the black church. Thats its staple. You can sing with emotion and soul like Jill Scott, India Arie, Patti, Aretha, hell even Whitney/Cece etc without giving off the gospel sound all the time. If you were raised on gospel that's how you'll sound unless you switch it up and most the people you named have not. It's not a bad thing to sing in the church though...

  • I know this is my 2kth comment. I just came back to rate you and wanted to say. I am NOT talking bad about gospel, it seems that there is more of an emphasis on big emotional voices than there is technique at times. Some may disagree and that is fair. I think most listeners would say sometimes the voices seem less versatile. I think lately JHud, Fantasia, Jaz put out poor songs for their potential. Hood Boy, Pocketbook, Bust Your Windows, catchy FAILS. All that watered down mess...

  • Hmm. You may have something there.

Honestly, I want to do all genres and I KNOW I'm gonna do gospel music on my albums because i need to take time out to give God praise... In ALL that I do.

And you're wright about these watered down songs that don't showcase their REAL talent.

  • umm... Who is Keri Wilson?? i know Keri Hilson AKA Stranger bitch.

    lol...

  • Quick question, when did singing become a gift to edify the body of Christ? I dot remember that being one of them listed. I mean its nice if you do, but its certainly not a gift given by the Holy Spirit. Actually Alchol Harmony this talent that you have is hindering your spiritual growth

and the reason that it is bothering you, is in deed you know in your heart you could be doing something else, what that is I dont know, but you have convictions and it shows...JmhO

  • The bible says in whatever we do, let it be used to glorify God.

And it's not so much as conviction, it's more curiousity and frustration.

And actually, this gift helps me and others.

Not just my voice, but my testimonies as well.

I just don't want people telling what I should do with what God gave to ME to please them.

It just gets under my skin sometimes.

I have a lot of stories to tell and some of them are of back when I was in the world.

  • How am I supposed to win people to Christ if I'm not transparent?

People need honesty... And I give that.

I didn't always have it right, but I'm getting it together and it shows in my music.

Some saints are indeed TOO saved.

Some won't even listen to JAZZ because it's not gospel! That's being religious. I don't do religion. I practice relationship with God.

  • I tottally agree w. yu..and i love the vid...and i love how you dont mind engaging in intellectual conversation with ppl about their opinions...

  • The black church is cancer to the black community, and the bible isn't real. Just read Genesis.. Adam lived to be about 700 yrs old...Moses lived to be about 900....obviously it's pure baloney but that's another story. Use your talent for whatever you want and don't let other folks dictate what you do.

  • The bible may be far fetched, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it just isn't real. Take a comparative religions studies course and you'll see that a lot of religions have stories in common, such as the great flood. So *something* must have happened. But what does any of this have to do with the subject again? lol. Now I'm lost. Help!

  • you're right, this was totally off subject but religious folks have a tendency to shove their bs down our throats and that is what his vlog was about.

lol@ The bible may be far fetched, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it just isn't real.

if u notice Law and Order does the same exact thing the bible does....it sometimes borrows from real life events and incorporates them into their episodes.

    still made up though...

  • Sir in that SAME GENESIS u are referencing..it also tells u why people dont live to be that old any more (Genesis 6:3) . Genesis 6:3 U know its funny how people pick and choose things out of the Bible to try to make their point relevant without even actually READING the WHOLE THING. But dont take this as me tryin to shut u down. I just want u to be corrected. God Bless.
