  • Betty introduced this song in the 1943 film "Happy Go Lucky" -- but her explosive version inexplicably did not become a hit. That's amazing -- as this tune seems custom written to match her energetic style. Incredibly, the song instead became a hit for far more low-key, honey-voiced Dinah Shore (Victor 1525). The tune came back in 1945 when it became the title theme of a Fred MacMurray comedy -- in which neither Dinah nor Betty appeared.

  • I first heard this song in third grade, and it really expanded my mind. I've been singing this song since seventh grade, and always get positive feedback. Waaaay too many people don't know this song, or Betty Hutton.

So sexy, yet subtle. She's someone I model myself after when I perform: A tease, yet available...Amazing!

    Long Live Betty!

  • I fell in love with her instantly

  • Betty was the full package: a knock-out visually and musically. When you watch a Betty Hutton movie, you were sure to be entertained.

  • Betty was the full package: a knock-out visually and musically.

  • Love, love, love Betty Hutton!!!

  • LA Noire

  • She is so cute along with incredibly entertaining to watch. This song is amazing, and made more so because she sang it. :) Love it!!

  • Betty Hutton is like some hyper, wound up, sugar dynamo of a woman. I saw a film of hers in which she sang this song. She was bouncing off the walls!

  • Where's this been all my life? I first saw the clip on TCM and went straight to the 'Tube for more. Bravo! Thanx for uploading.

  • Ohhhhh Bob, how long that I do not see him !!!! Great Upload. I love the black and white films. Thank you so much.

  • This makes me so happy. =D

Betty Hutton is so full of life, I love her to bits.

  • People talk as if Judy Garland wasn't also known for her star power and presence. She isn't claimed to be the greatest entertainer of all time for no reason. Judy as well had that energy and the ground breaking presence that made her live performances so legendary. Carnegie Hall anyone?

I love Betty, she is amazing, but trying to compare her with Judy is pointless. Judy is in a class all by herself.

  • Wish I had Betty's pep. Those were great entertainers. We are fortunate to have these videos to relive some great moments.

    flufrules

  • satin and spurs. watch star spangled rhythm. watch betty climbing over the wall of paramount studios, i laughed so hard my face hurt and i had to run to the restroom. check it out!

  • Great energy...what a talent.

  • A vitamin pill with legs, indeed!

Despite a hideously difficult life, a consummate and multi-talented artist, she gave a grateful nation (and world) the gift of laughter during very dark times - through to today.

  • she is sooooo great!

  • I just enjoy watching Betty Hutton sing and act.. what a pretty lady.

  • Great clip. I love it when you actually get to see real footage of someone seeing.

  • Haha. That's me when I sing. Everybody teases me, but next time someone comments on the way I sing, I will just direct them to this video. ;)

  • The spirit of Betty Hutton lives on in the wonderful Sheridan Smith !

  • @janknuckey Who?

  • I loooove Betty, she's waaaay ahead of her time and too eccentric for that time

    I love it

  • In a way, Betty was a rock star during the Big Band era. I firmly believe that a young Betty Hutton would be as popular today as she was during the 1940's.

  • @johnnynazz52 -- Check Lady Sovereign.

  • @johnnynazz52 she would fit right into the punk era in the 70s don't you think lol?

  • @cpj93070 Sure do. As a matter of fact, I think that she would be popular now. She's timeless!

  • @cpj93070

I have exactly the same thought, check the 1951 cut of this track...its very punk rock IMHO.

Nice to see someone else has their ears on...

  • Betty is ADORABLE in this clip! I can certainly see what made her a star.

  • the quality of this video is superb! thanks for uploading :)

  • LOL she is great. I have always known the cover of Tori amos, and this is SO different.

But Listen to tori cover of this song !

  • I absolutly adore Betty Hutton I mean she has all that energy she is way better then Judy Garland

  • I like Betty Hutton too - all that energy. But she's not even close to Judy Garland.

  • or, for that matter, janis joplin.

  • She is so great, I love her enthusiasm and obvious love for what she's doing!

  • She is so much better than Judy garland I wish there was someone with that enthusiasum in the world today

  • I love her and her sister Marion.

  • She is so amazing!!! Perfect voice, beauty and funny!!

    She is a perfect singer.

    RIP

  • What a performer!

  • she looks a hell of a lot like sandra dee

  • I LOVE Betty Hutton. I wish I could have met her. She looks like a doll. Making love to Betty would have been like making love to a wildcat! She had wild boundless ENERGY! I love everything about Betty! I suppose in real life she was Some Package! Bob Osbourne interviewed Betty, what suprised me is we share a Faith! It was not Betty's fault that Judy G had had to quit. Betty stands up against Howie "Anything you can do I can do better" Keel- And PROVES it. This Clip Rocks and the song Kicks!

  • What movie is this from-I know it was a recording of an armed forces broadcast by Bob Hope. Was it "command Performance ?"

  • it was episode 92 of Command Performance...also in the line-up were Lana Turner, Judy Garland, The Charioteers, & Jimmy Durante

  • What goldenerageek said... They show the clip on TCM now and then, I don't know if the clip they show is the entire command performance #92.

  • they actually cut off some talking in between the intros and the songs...i have the whole audio uploaded on here, though

  • Weird lyrics, wonderful performer.

  • Has anyone ever seen Betty Hutton acting sleepy? She's the most liveliest performer ever.

  • She's gorgeous, and this song is the best :D The way she expressed it: amazing!

  • That's not Bing Crosby. That is Bob Hope, just fyi. I do love this clip though, so thank you for posting it!

  • How she was turned down on Broadway is beyond me. They're loss, our gain.

  • Betty murders me every time! What a dynamo! Long may she wave!

  • i first saw a small clip of betty singing this song 2 years ago in a sinatra documentary.i never knew her name and so it took me many weeks to track this song -and the singer-down. today is the very first time i've saw this in full. totally and absolutely BRILLIANT! funny, attractive, talented.she was the best. thanks wboenig2 and youtube.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY:)

  • i agree with you all, these forties stars had more talent than those today would love to lived back then

  • This song is from the movie The Fleets In.

  • More star power than also the Britney Spears, Christina Aguileras, and whomever ELSE you can think of. This is when TALENT was TALENT. And I'm a mere 43 years old. So I know what I'm talking about :)

  • You are right on. No props, no gimmicks, just a mike, a band, and a boatload of talent.

  • The funny thing is, Betty was maybe 22 or 23 here. And she has MORE finesse, more "star presence" than ANY of the Gwen Stephanis (or whomever) of OUR day!

  • My late mother in law went to high school with her in Detroit. She was fabulous. May she rest in peace.

  • WOW really!?? lucky!!!! going to school with her would have been the best! haha

  • She is such a gem. And I absolutely LOVE this song! Fabulous post!!!!!!

  • Notice she sang that live, no lip syncing for a professional like Betty Hutton, those were the days of real entertainers!

  • YOU GOT THAT RIGHT

  • A vitamin pill with legs, indeed.

  • Betty Hutton. Cute as a pin, talent to spare, just great.

  • Thanks for posting the banter before the song!
