It is a social problem that not everywhere enforcing the one-child policy. It is not my job to have a stable society, like China recently. However, being an architect, if I provide a full bath and a full kitchen, a living dining room with a 8'x4' deck outside the slider. Outside spiral staircase used to cost around $1,000,- some kids sleeping upstairs. Ten people live in one 40'-0" container can solve the government a lot of money for public housing in Haiti and N.O. "In order to stabilize world population, it is necessary to eliminate 350,000 people a day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it's just as bad not to say it." — Oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, as quoted in "The Courier," a publication of the U.N. Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (U.N.E.S.C.O.)
"A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal." — Ted Turner of C.N.N., quoted in the "McAlvany Intelligence Advisor," 6/96
2 x40 ft containers are for two people here. That means one container is for one person only; my design of 4 x40 ft containers are for 40 people, which means one container is for ten people. As an architect, I think I have done a good job for housing the poor people down in Haiti and New Orleans. The rich and the powerful should save the poor people before they turned violent. George Wu, AIA 2012-1-21
I mentioned two different designs of using shipping containers here already, 44 and 40 people in 4 containers respectively for each design. The idea is to accomodate as many people as possible,in the cheapest cost. Since I am an architect, interested in housing design for years, at the present moment,it is urgent to use the cheap and plentiful containers to house the helpless people in Haiti and New Orleans. some day I will show you how to use the containers for highrise. George Wu, AIA 2012-1-21
@luvintherawlife Its part of a show peice (you can see in the background the other stalls). Foundations are dependant on location, But could easily be on raised concrete pads rather than a full foundation. The other questions you will need to talk to the manufacturer im afraid as they can vary considerably depending on location and design e.g. insulation could be on exterior under cladding or interior as part of studding.
For Haiti and New Orleans, 4 containers @ $2,000 each can put a roof over 44 ( forty four) people, with two full bathrooms, two full kitchens,& two living -dining rooms, and two Japanese gardens. It cost about $1,000 person to live there. Now since their tents are being evicted by the landowners. The officials should do something about the relocation ! well, if people are waiting for the $150,000 houses in New Orleans to be built, they better look into the containers. George Wu, AIA 2012-1-19
@tropicalpenpals I could not ignore one of the ideas that I gave to muy grand son to build them some day. (4) 40'-0" shipping containers at $2,000 ea. to house (4) families with 10 people each=40 people, with two spiral staircases to go up to the plywood attics.Well, It is hundred times better than living in the tents since the disasters in Haiti and New Orleans. The tents are being evicted in Haiti by the land owners at the present time, so I read. George Wu, AIA 2012-1-21
Very Impressive! One of the best I have seen on YouTube. How are you plumbed? My issue is going to be running sewage out of it. I'm going with 2 40 foots as well. This is a perfect video thank you very much! Oh, and answer luvintherawlife's questions lol
@eastwoodisme Hi, its not my container unit but would recommend preinstalling a trenched pipe that you can pick back up through the floor. Does mean you have to be pretty close on your drop of the container so it ends up in the right place but not a major problem due to the dimensions being spot on and easy to get in the right place (Everything is correct). Other option is plumbing to external depends on the access you have to toilet units (Floor/Wall).
@stedmans4christ Hi Sted, The refrigerated ones are the old way to go in my eyes, otherwise your living in a metal box,v hot in summer v cold in winter, or you have to spend loads on installing insulation plus the work. Also the refrigerated ones are flush on the outside which makes it a lot easier to cover so it does not look like a container.
i read on the net that for some reason refrigerated containers aren't recomendet for homes

@georgewu5 extremely good points and from what I have been hearing about New Orleans they do seem to be forcing out the poor on purpose.
