as a open atheist, i recently attended a funeral for a friend at a church. some christians there were suprised I was there. I told them We were there to celebrate our friends life . his widow was glad to see me. religous beliefs were not an issue.....

surely you begin to ask questions when a building that was SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to withstand MULTIPLE aircraft collisions is reduced to rubble by a single plane? i've not read a theory mentioning dynamite. dynamite is a mining tool. thermite however is a demolition tool. it is understandable to see how the collapses could be seen as a controlled demolition, particularly building 7. i'm not a firm believer of any theory, but i can't credit plane impacts as the culprit for the collapses at all.

That's great Insert, but just a minor point. I prefer to think of it as a rejection of faith rather than a lack of faith. I don't feel we atheists should say we 'lack' something that is really a vice. It has an apologetic ring to it, and I personally am not sorry I lack, say cancer, or in this case, what I'd consider a psychological retrovirus. (But thats me!)

They think I'm going through a stage but one day I'll "come around," so we don't really talk about it. One day I do plan to talk to my mom about it because I don't want to have to pretend around them, but I'm kind of putting it off because I'm scared of her reaction.

Um, regarding my situation, the whole coming out idea and the parallel with revealing someone's homosexuality to their family is so alien to me. americans have it easy. I'm from Mali (80% muslims). If i didn't keep quiet about being an atheist when i lived there, I probably would've been disowned, beaten in the street, and have people throw things at me everytime they saw me walk by for 2 or 3 years. We're a secular society, but still, I get the impression sometimes that we're too lenient with theists...of course, religion isn't threatening to invade our schools and government as is the case with the states. the only two vertical steel columned buildings ever to collapse vertically at freefall speed from an aircraft impact (especially when they were designed to withstand multiple impacts) in the history of mankind both fell in the space of half an hour. it is physically impossible for two airplanes to make two buildings the stature of wtc 1 and 2 collapse. the theory that i am proposing is that the 9-11 commission is a lie.

surely you begin to ask questions when a building that was SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to withstand MULTIPLE aircraft collisions is reduced to rubble by a single plane? i've not read a theory mentioning dynamite. dynamite is a mining tool. thermite however is a demolition tool. it is understandable to see how the collapses could be seen as a controlled demolition, particularly building 7. i'm not a firm believer of any theory, but i can't credit plane impacts as the culprit for the collapses at all.

i'm sure we can see from previous projects what works and what doesn't. i could argue that the world trade centre WAS tested by other similar buildings constructed prior. planes have crashed into buildings before. conspiracy theories may have been debunked, but the 9-11 commission has also been debunked by perhaps even more people, including the engineers that built world trade centre buildings 1 and 2. how do you know people were on the planes? discredit nothing if the "truth" is a lie.

it's not impossible. more than half of the "terrorists" that were supposedly on the planes are still alive anyway. is it really that ridiculous to think that a plane could be flown from outside the cockpit? it makes more sense than blowing yourself up for a religion that sees suicide as a grave sin.

i didn't say that they don't exist, just that it isn't impossible that they weren't involved on 9-11. some people believe that it is a way to get attention and strike fear into the public providing them with an enemy figure in order to accept the military forces being sent to war. war is the best reason for a government to raise taxes and milk more money from it's public.

well it depends on where the money goes. i think you'll remember 1.8 trillion dollars "mysteriously disappearing" from the american budget? i'm sure splitting that between those involved will be enough to keep them quiet! wmds were not found. they were never there. that is the factor of fear implanted. it is not that elaborate. it happened with the lucitania attack in 1914, pearl harbour in 1944 and the gulf of tonkin "attack" in the 60s. 9-11 was nothing new.

personally, if i was offered money (a ridiculous concept as it is) to hide information from anybody, i wouldn't accept it. in fact i'd do everything in my power to ensure that the person received the information as i believe that no information should be held from anybody against their will. again, it's consistent with what some (probably most) of us believe to be "terrorist's declared aims". you'd think that the most defended country in the world could halt attacks that they knew about.

the invasion of iraq had nothing to do with wmds, that was a method employed to gain acceptance from the public to launch the attack in the first place. what the american and british news doesn't mention was that saddam hussein cancelled the exportation of oil from iraq to the usa 6months prior to 9-11. it is the same as what has happened in 75% of latin american countries in the past 3decades, not to mention vietnam in the 60s.

The USA is not reliant on iraq for oil.
The sooner Fusion power is introduced the better for us all, and it will be achieved by peer reviewed science.
The one conspiricy theory I have is why we have cheap oil why spend money finishing off the develepoment.

the usa is not reliant on any one country no, but i suggest u research what occurred in venezuela after hugo chavez refused trade of oil with the usa. you can't help thinking about saddam. i agree about how needless oil is, but fusion isn't the only answer either. current geothermal technology has the ability to power the world continuously and indefinitely. there are many other solutions too.

also, in a city with 3 major airports and the 2 tallest buildings in the world (when they were built), perhaps jumbo jet crashes would be a realistic scenario? but also being able to withstand earthquakes of force 9 richter magnitude (also the words of minoru yamasaki) should make it fairly sound. designs fail in consumer goods and other lesser projects yes, but the worlds most expensive construction project ever? not very likely.

Again, assuming minoru yamasaki did say these things, and he was in fact refering to jumbo jets rather then smaller aircraft, which again you provide no evidence. Then this still proves nothing other than that he was wrong. Expensive construction projects do tend to fail when you crash jumbo jets into them. Its incredibly difficult to predict engeneering senerios like this which have never taken place in real life.

he was referring to boeing 707s, which were the largest commercial aircraft available at the time. on the contrary, engineering scenarios are surprisingly easy to predict if they are designed with that particular scenario in mind, even if they have never taken place in real life. of all of the "hijackers" listed by the fbi, abdul aziz al-omari, saeed al-ghamdi, waleed al-shehri , ahmed al-nami, salem al-hazmi and khalid al-mihdhar have all come forward to multipple sources...

He's been through a lot in his life and he thanks God for being able to make it though it all so I don't think I can just tell him without him being really disappointed in me. Strangely, I have found that most of them havent even read their own bible and they are amazed when an Atheist schools them on their own religion. Thank you so much. I'm an atheist but I go to school in West Virginia. They have really strong beliefs here, and I've only told my very close friends about my atheism. I accidentally let it slip to my mom and she set up an intervention to try to "fix" me.
I'm scared to let people know about my lack of faith because I know that they will treat me differently.
When I saw this episode it made me feel like maybe I'm not crazy. Thank you so much, you have no idea how good this was to hear.

That's great Insert, but just a minor point. I prefer to think of it as a rejection of faith rather than a lack of faith. I don't feel we atheists should say we 'lack' something that is really a vice. It has an apologetic ring to it, and I personally am not sorry I lack, say cancer, or in this case, what I'd consider a psychological retrovirus. (But thats me!)

They think I'm going through a stage but one day I'll "come around," so we don't really talk about it. One day I do plan to talk to my mom about it because I don't want to have to pretend around them, but I'm kind of putting it off because I'm scared of her reaction.
My sister knows though, and she accepts me and my opinions and we talk about it sometimes.

Um, regarding my situation, the whole coming out idea and the parallel with revealing someone's homosexuality to their family is so alien to me. I was never secretive about my rejection of religion, and I always openly challenged my family. And apparently younger than I can remember too, as my mum recently told me when I was a kid, this holy man visited my dad, and I basically asked my dad, "Why won't God even fix this guy's leg?".

What did they eat when they were back on land? Where did all the water go? What about ducks? Why werent evil fish punished too? And why do we have free will, yet are eternally punished if we dont choose option A? If original sin is a metaphor, then Jesus died for nothing? Why bother with baptism? The child cant choose!"

Absolutely, and the frustration is that these are elements of inquiry that are casually but pompously dismissed during childhood, as simply the feeble grasping of an adolescent's intellect. Yet kids are often exposing key flaws with theistic narratives that cut to the core of critical thinking.
The best and most obvious example is that it even occurs to a child, "Then who made God?" That's not to be snorted at - that's the unavoidable problem of infinite regression with the designer argument.
