The americans sent chimps to space. I can't understand why people feel sad that the russians send dogs to space, while the american sent chimps to space, which are biologically closer to humans, they are primates like humans, while dogs are canines, a different mammalian group.
well, you know, that with animals the human being experiences very crudely. Humans are very cruel. By the way: who is and as the name of that solemn and beautiful music that has this video? is a beautiful work. Who plays the theme song? thanks
not sure but I think it's Nikita Chruscev, Soviet prime minister at those days.
The man in hat, who holds Laika is Sergei Korolev, the chief engineer, who projected the R-7 rocket, the first space probes and Gagarin's mission also.
Liaka started out with a mom then got adopted by a braty kid the kid didn't want her so he threw her in the river l8er that day a stray found her and helped her find food they became friends but the dog catcher killed the stray and captured liaka and brought her to russia space station nad went to outerspace and came to earth a shooting star R.I.P. laika we miss you you brave willing dog!!!!!!!!!
poor laika....she 's a siberia husky....she survived in earth orbit for four days.she died in space when the batteries to the cabin over heated....they dont need animals to go on space....animals have done nothing to them??....it sound awesome when we heard of the dog in space but it felt heartbroken when a dog died....i say no more animals on space
aww this makes me emotional..Lukia was a hero and dosent even know it ...when i think about wat happensto her i wanna cry...but at the same time im happy that the Soviet did what they had to do
@sniper034 No! The dog was ok for at least 7 hours but then she died. Her "coffin" orbited Earth a lot and then came flying down to Earth. When things fall to Earth, the Atmosphere catches it on fire. I am sure you will learn more of this type of stuff at school later
@Pepper31041 I know that the atmosphere heats things until parts of or the entire falling piece of matter disintegrate because of the force of gravity and rapid movement through varying layers of said atmosphere. However, I hadn't researched the topic of the Sputnik project enough to figure how the dog died.
@sniper034@sniper034 Oh...I am so sorry. This is awkward. I didn't mean to be that rude either. This is kind of funny... anyways, what I was trying to say was that she didn't "fry" shortly after launch. It was a year later when she fried when falling back to Earth. This is embarrassing because I am only in the sixth grade heh heh.
This dog had a better life than many, many other dogs around the world. We humans kill thousands of animals every day, but when one dog dies in space for benefit of mankind we all have words of wisdom to throw at those responsible. Yes bad, bad Russians but tell me what are you going to eat for dinner this evening?
@Legolas3111 As if a dog cares for our little studies... As if an animal even cares that theres a statue there for them...
The launch wasnt worth it, the man responsible agreed and regretted doing so.
This great space you talk about is very hostile to living creatures. Apart from that, the dog simply didnt know what the hell was going on. It was never under the impression that she was actually flying in space, and she was scared shitless.
Yeah but what i am trying to say is ... that almost all humans eat meat ... and that the lifes conditions of the animals who died to be eaten were ... how to say .... 1000 worse than laika life's conditions ... it is sad for her ... but millions of other animals are killed and totured everydays ... and about dogs ... how many dogs are abandoned ? ... died in streets by cars or hunger ? ... is it better than her death ? i don't think so ....
@Legolas3111 True, but you should treat either of them as different things, because one is just as much animal abuse as the other. We're using animals for the wrong things, Laika is an example of that.
well, you know, that with animals the human being experiences very crudely. Humans are very cruel. By the way: who is and as the name of that solemn and beautiful music that has this video? is a beautiful work. Who plays the theme song? thanks.

Korolev suggested sending a dog into space as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution. Kruschev thought it was a great idea because it would build on the success of Sputnik 1 and further boost the Soviet Union's image worldwide.
Laika was a true hero, even if not by choice. I read recently that one of the Russian scientists involved with this regrets he ever did this, having the benefit of hindisght. The Russians were no less compassionate than the Americans -what happened to NASA's chimps after they flew? USSR took lots of precautions to protect their cosmonauts, and in Laika's case you can blame Nakita K for wanting to make a statement for communist propaganda and overshadow his risky removal Zhukov. RIP Laika xxx
when they say she died from "stress" and "shock" what they are telling you basically is she died from fear, from the sheer terror of what they put her through
She died after 5 hrs, because the cabin did not separate from the last stage of R-7 rocket. The air conditioning system's switch was projected to turn on by the cabin separation, so it didnt turn on. Laika died because of overheat then.
Laika had enought of food, oxygen and water for two weeks.
(however the sovjets rumoured that Lajka's body bore the charging for one week... but anyway they didn't plan to restart the sputnyik because there wasn't spaceship in 1957 to bring back it, so after 3 weeks they would have poisoned the dog in order that not to be in pain).
That was an enormous footstep in science but I feel sorrow for the wictims... ;(
The 40th anniversary of the Revolution of October (in other words the start of the sovjet empire) came near. 'What about starting a sputnyik with an animal, a dog?' was the idea of Koroljov so he and his assists patched Sputnyik 2 within about ONE MONTH to content Hruscsov's ask for some sensation. There was no time for longer tests and thanks for the expedience Lajka's cubicle got overheated and the dog was died within 5-6 hours
no, these dogs were trained for sub-orbital flights before. There was ecg system in the capsula, showing that her heartbeat rate was increased during the launch onl\y. Not durig the flight.

Would you rather a human or dog die??
This was a very risky mission and pushed human knowledge to the limit..
It is unfortunate, however using a dog rather then a man or a women is much wiser.
