@TYPEArchANGEL Battoujutsu is a form of kenjutsu. Kenjutsu in general means "Sword Technique"(or close to it), and with Kenjutsu lies many forms. Kind of like cars: Take a Ford for instance. If you tell someone that you drive a Ford car/truck, their going to ask what make (ex. Focus, F150, Mustang, etc.) If you're talking about swordsmanship, you practice Kenjutsu under differing styles such as Battoujutsu.
@TYPEArchANGEL WayfindTerra is correct. However to get more specific, battoujutsu. which translates to "drawing technique" (or something of the sort) is a technique that is essentially cutting from right out of the saya (scabbard). So when you draw your sword, you are also cutting. There are also ways to avoid and defend without drawing, then quickly drawing and finishing your opponent in one stroke (or at least that's the goal), such as in this video.
Very, very interesting techniques! Ju-jutsu mixed with sword, I really like it! I belive that these techniques is not only from battlefield, but mainly from feudal samurai's everyday life.
What conditions affected your styles development, and when was it codified? It seems very efficient and relevant to real battle conditions. The way that it deals with taking command in close range before the sword is even drawn is fantastic. I would be interested to learn what influence such authoritative responses to attacks.
@rubin3364 Get a stick, get a friend, get a stick for the friend. Follow the video, pausing frequently if need be. Practice the technique often, try changing things up. Come up with counters to the technique, and then counters to the counters.
This is one of the best demonstrations I've ever witnessed. You two understand each others swords and it was performed as if you two were really fighting. That's how every swordsman should practice as if it were a real life situation. great focus and spirit. haha sorry, i got a little carried away XD
its nice... i just wanted to see them a bit flow... it looks like a robor. one two tree... it dsnt work like that... no one is going to wait for you to counter... it is just a personal opinion... the technique is really good... only the flow is completelly lost...
Haha its funny how the 1st combo overkill the opoenent XD...the 1st hit would have killed it already...make some tutorial vids pleâse? ^^ really interested in Battojutsu but...the closer I can find to it, is Shinkendo..I couldnt find any Battojutsu dojo or video or anything
I found a good one on EBAY a few years ago. Mine isnt so much a boken as the blade is styled much thinner to be more effective for iai and battou training. Try, "wooden practise sword" as a search
Are those sheathed wooden practice swords?

The Kendo as like Karate-Do were created to be Sports-Martial Arts, but Battojutsu is a real Art Killing Sword created before Meiji Goberment

where can i get boken like that... with the scabbard and guard with it.
alterTrinityfang 2 years ago
its isnt hard to find, try to search Bokken with Tsuba and for the scabbard you normally find it separately.
