@markys77vette Konstantinov was and is fucking awesome...He skated on a legacy of blood. He was often criticizing for playing the man instead of the puck but I think that this should be celebrated...His philosophy was sometimes to screw the puck in favor of shoving a guys head through the boards....and he did during the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 98...My fondest hockey memory...a guy's head stuck in dislodged boards...Vladi cramming the boards against him and smiling his toothy grin at the camera

What happened was Konstantinov, Vyacheslav Fetisov, and team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov hired a limo drive to take the home shortly after winning the 97 Cup. The driver, Richard Gnida lost control of the limousine and hit a tree outside of Detroit. Konstantinov spent several weeks in a coma and also suffered from serious head injuries and paralysis while Fetisov escaped with relatively minor injuries. Mnatsakanov sustained heavy head injuries and also spent some time in a coma.
