  • はいずってでも生きてやる

  • 神曲

  • One of my favourite songs with both great lyrics and music> I find it inspiring and play it over and over, lol.

  • stereophonics also a good welsh band ophiu

  • the lyrics suggest its a song about alcoholics... i love this song

  • its actually about how allot of us seem to revel in the lads culture, not loving the things we take for granted.

"we don't talk about love, we only want to get drunk"

  • The phrase "A design for life" comes from the book of Alcoholics Anonymous......which claims to be a design for living! I saw the Manics on this tour and they were utterly brilliant.

  • Them playing in Cuba.....yeah!

  • I love this song.

  • I'll be there in Boston kringles4 10 long years waiting for the Manics in the U.S

  • I've been waiting since This is My Truth... Finally seeing them in Chicago!

  • no bad for a bunch ov taffs

  • canzone stupenda,gruppo fantastico.

  • One of the greatest songs ever recorded...hoping to see the Manics in Boston (in October)....they are finally in the USA......

    Joe in NH.

  • This song is perfect storm for Kim Jung Il

  • Oh wow...haven't heard this song in ages.

    Loved(love) this album!

  • This group has that whole Wall of Sound thing going on, from what I can make out they sound like whiney leftists with that teenage angst emo thing goin on...

  • teenage angst emo thing??

I guess you are oblivious to the fact that the manics are arguably the most relevant band in the last 20 years.

From what I can make out, you are a putz.

  • HAHA Putz!!

I forgot that word existed. I'm gonna call someone in work tomorrow a putz.

I love this song. One of the only good welsh bands out there unfortunately.

  • emo's are punks who lost all mening and just cry rather than change things. The maniocs are the most political band since the clash. Now tell me they're emo.

  • magnifique chanson!!!!

  • j ai presque tous les album .Pour un ancien groupe punk, leur reconvertion est une reussite!!! et ce titre:" a design for life" le meilleur de tous!!!!!!!

  • love this song

  • Fantastic.

  • FUCKING GREAT!!!!

  • Another completey amazing Tune , -

    Welsh N Proud

  • the everlasting....motorcycle emptiness...and this song are my prefer ...great manics!!!

  • Grand groupe gallois. Chanson énorme qui me donne toujours autant la chair de poule depuis si longtemps.

French mod, married with children but still get teenage riot minded.

    Long Live the Manics!!!

  • exellent groupe (ancien groupe punk...) j adore cette chanson!!!! a mettre au panteon de la musique poprock!!!!

  • Manics rule. Being a fan for 11 years now and the most important band in my life.

  • Is a beautiful song, one of my favourites

  • What a great song. Every single chord fits to the next one... the guitar is just amazing on its beauty.

Anyone noticed how Sean drops the stick before hitting the cymbal at 2:08 or so? :D

  • most people miss the point of this song altogether, its not about gettin drunk haha

  • Its crass, and horribly dated.

  • Great Song, shame that the message was lost on most people.

  • This song has always been one of my top 5 all time favourite!!

  • whos's been missing for 13 years? and found dead? =S Its a nice song.

  • Hasn't been found dead.

    Presumed dead.

Manics are my favorite band, I'm fifteen. More people should listen to them, they Define classic English rock/indy/alt.

  • I'm 13, and a girl:D

And they are my favorite band.

My dad loves them, this is what I grew up on, great memories:)

  • im 12 and their my fave band already!!!

  • i'm 5 and started listening to em ever since!!!

  • Watermelon, I'm not being funny but is that how they taught you to spell "favourite" in school? If you're proud of British music then be proud of British spelling and don't use the American way of spelling it

  • ooooh some one's a bit touchy. i'll make sure my spelling and sentence structure are correct or i might get knee capped!

  • wow... take a valium or six. are you that insecure, that a word spelled the American way bothers you so much? Silly.

  • If there isn't evidence, they say 'presumed'. But the family have had him legally stated as 'dead' now, legally.

  • he still isn't legally dead-the family wanted him to be declared dead but msp did not want them to declare it. MSP still give 1/4 of the money made to Richard Edwards bank account. Its one of the most confusing cases in possible deaths as his bank had £100 withdrawn from it everyday, a month before his disaperiance

  • he was prenounced assumed dead at the end of 2008, so now for all intents & purposes he's assumed to have died.

  • "We don't talk about love, we only want to get drunk" - I was 12 when I heard this song for the first time and I love it since. A personal anthem. I love both the britpop-esque music and the angry lyrics.

  • My Fave song ever, Love it, Love the band, Love the lyrics, music ... Everythin

  • this song makes me angry ..

great song .. very important issues ..

  • there welsh.......................nuff sed

  • true, ironically a socialist song, that has been picked up my 'blokes' as an anthem misunderstanding the lyrics meanings.

    ah well! Go Socialism!!

  • sick tune

  • reminds me of GCSE's... Was supposed to be making" A design for life" But only wanted to get drunk! Ive probably spent the last thirteen years having totally misinterpreted the song but for me it will always be the GCSE song! totally awaesome

  • so good to have intelligent, thoughtful lyrics in rock music.

"Libraries gave us power" would you find that line from any other band today?

  • no no no

  • The Manics take that line from the hall of Newport Central Library. This is one of my Favourites songs.

If you like the working class topic you could read about Working class libraries, those which the Socialist and Communist put around Europe in Nineteenth Century.

  • brilliant song, great video showing the differences in our unequal society

  • oh my god - this is as fresh as it was ten years ago!

  • so what's the story with that? what happened, how'd he disappear/commit suicide?

  • go on wiki, basically he's been missing for 13 years and was last recorded as having been seen near a common suicide ( excuse the paraphrasing)... he was declared dead last year

  • bullshit....of course its a song and its one of my favourites, quality music!!

  • This isn't a song, it's an anthem.

  • what a songgg man

  • I was one of the 1st people to hear this song,

previewed live December 95...Supporting the Roses...

    "Its only us...."

  • yeh those were the times,i was hoping for a holy bible part 2,then they come up with this catchy little beauty!

  • why u dont allow us to embed this video anywhere we want it to;; huh;;;

  • i feel so sad he's gone but the fact he's never been found gives a little hope he's out there somewhere. hope he's found happiness. talent like that deserves a shot at happiness even if we the fans have to live without anymore of his genius input. he's truly missed but never forgotton.

  • Well in honesty he has been declared legally dead so that reaffirms the belief he's gone. If the family have accepted that, then everyone else should respect their wishes and admit that he's gone and he is never coming back.

    RIP richey Edwards

  • Richy wasn't a well guy.

It's a shame he was never found =(

  • same here lippy170 it reminds me of richey i just hope hes at peace wherever he may be

  • Second that comment!!

  • Has he not turned up yet?? This song always reminded me of that guy who disapeared from the band, cause it freaked me out as a kid when ma dad told me he disapeared and no one knew why. It always made me sad and when this song would play it always made me think why did he vanish? did he go to the bramuda triangle or something. Abit sad to feel sorry for a guy i didnt even know he could of been a bastard for all i know. Just did...

Id like to know where he is now know.

  • Jesus the piece is immortal

    God save!

  • love this song !!!

  • This is a song the size of two centuries

  • one of the best song that Nicky could write, all these amazing arrangements of guitar in perfect execution with violins, a true masterpiece...

  • Manics Top Band, Welsh Top people, lowdale your comment about the Welsh hop you die a 1,000 deaths

  • i love this song :]

  • oopsies! Sorry about that comment. Complete accident.

Awesome song, one of my favourites ever. Lyrics are just priceless!

  • cocky bastard

  • 'we don't talk about love, we only wanna get drunk' so sad and so true...

  • Love the Manics, hate the Welsh!

  • here we goooo.... why is tht ?

  • Magical.

The one reason I'm proud to be Welsh.

  • And the foxy accent, of course.

  • wow wot a beautiful song!!! nice one manics!!!!

  • great song,great songwriters,respect.

  • oasis are rubbish compared to the manics

  • Being an Oasis fan, you might have expected me to rant about how idiotic your comment is or how much I'm insulted etc.

But no. :) Bottom line, UK has the best musicians in the world.

  • sure ;)

im english myself and know thats bullshit. maybe 30 years ago.

  • Ive never really liked oasis. Im from manchester so i always thought i had to like em, well pretend. When really i never have. Maybe i like one or two of theirs but thats just the same as other artists or bands that i Dont rave over, but manics are great and i like many of thier songs including this one. I think oasis arent as good as people make out. Prefer manics and stone roses anyday!!

  • Real music at its very best

  • any1 else still hoping Richey Edwards will turn up?

  • You mean pop up off the river?

  • Has he not turned up yet?? This song always reminded me of that guy who disapeared from the band, cause it freaked me out as a kid when ma dad told me he disapeared and no one knew why. • This is an amazing song. But lyrics are very difficult to be heard. Now when I know the lyrics I realise how different they are from the things I've heard before.

  • This is an amazing song. I never truly thought that Manic's could perform in Oulu Finland. I salute them for that from the rest of my... okey, enyveis alot. *grin*

  • went to see the manics at reading fest 2008 on my own cos none of my mates wanted to go. have to say it was the highlight of my weekend! even more so than rage against the machine and pendulum who are two of my favourite bands. the manics blew me away they were insanely good!

  • i wish i saw them my mate dragged me to the killers and they were predictably rubbish!

  • brilliant tune must say bit like oasis but better :D

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

  • it would help your comment about james killing himself if he wasnt still alive and kicking as we speak. The bands 1/2 of the main songwriters vanished. Some publicity stunt that when they are still looking for him eh? Suppose you think Elvis had something to do with the JFK assasination too huh? Moron

  • im quite sure he wasnt being serious,he probably thought it would be amusing to piss off some manics fans by deliberately getting his facts wrong.

  • this song got to number 1 in the uk charts in 1996, after this song was released it was made apparent that the lead singer may have had possibly commited suicide off the clifton suspension bridge in bristol but aparently in reality this was just an early internet publicity stunt lol ;)

  • yes i heard that too,the lead singer did a runner but made it look like a suicide for publicity, and hence the the song got to number 1 in 1998. good thing the lead guitarist could sing too or they would have been in trouble lol:)

  • awesome song

saw them at leeds festival they were amazing

    (Y)

  • cant wait to sing my heart out to dis song when they come to s'pore!

  • this life +10

  • I had the previledge ( sowwi if that wasnt spelt ryt) to see these at V festival 2002 they were gr8 and some random guy put me on his shoulders tah see the show XD

  • I remember when this song came out I wished I could see the video, but MTV only (to my memory) played it 1 time on a show called 120 minutes. I remember being very annoyed by this too. It's a good song.

  • amazing song! I personally think it is one of the best ever made.

  • Great stuff boys ! Let's have more from the Blackwood Mafia.Come a long way from TJ's

  • cool vocal... ;) Nice song ! :D

  • see you guys on 26/11/2008 in Hong Kong!!!

    cheers!

  • One of the best songs to be written and it sounds great

  • im very proud to be a scottish worker, up the raaaaaaa!!!!! mon the hoops, hope lies in the proles

  • zeitgeist

  • U are Poliish one?

  • 4 long months of trying to find out this song (I didn't know who sung it of the name) and i discover it through radio one while at work! the irony of it. Hope u r safe where ever u r Richey James.

  • For me their best song ever...

  • I'm very proud to be English

  • shame they r welsh then

  • The Huge Song is this. Though. I love you guys. Sorry that tomorrow came yesterday. It means: back to your roots!

  • This is Fukkk-n awesome , - amazingly talented ;)

  • I remember seeing these guys at Glastonbury 1999, headlining the main stage on the Saturday night. They're just as good live as on their albums, if not better. This was the song that got me into them in the first place, but one question begs itself - WHY HAVE AMERICA IGNORED THESE GUYS? WHY?

  • hmm where should we start! there's at least one song on each album criticising the US government, and the album 'know ur enemy'is anti American almost the whole way through, also imagine what those strict catholics would think of 'the holy bible' lol.

  • turn off the pc, open the curtains, leave the bedroom........kiss a girl your not related to.............

  • Or a boy. That kind of angst is usually related to inhibition. And it could all be so beautiful...

  • mE gusta mucho esta cancion me trajo recurdo esta adolesente cuando la escuche por primera vez

  • Youre kidding right? Please dont tell me you didnt know the English are from England? Just like the Spanish are from Spain? The English language came from England, like Spanish Language came from Spain? And people still live in these countries! Or do you think a big American corporation like Microsoft invented English? My God, you really are silly & you thought you were being such a smart ass. Unbelievable!

  • i guess he was just being ironic

  • Yes, very silly you. English is a race, albeit a sub race of Caucasian. Spanish is a language and Spain is a country. English is a language and England is also a country. Guess why? Because its the country the language came from? Wow, who would believe it?! You have embarrassed yourself. Im not an American hater by any stretch of the imagination, but it comes as no surprise to click on your profile & find you are American.

  • What's wrong being an american? My grandpa was born in Michigan, then they moved back to homeland Finland. I love America, because my grandpa was a born american. I hope also, that Barack Obama gets all this nightmares all right, if elected. If not, I'm gonna move to Mars.

  • Yes meli419, very silly you. English is a race. A sub form of the Caucasian race. Spanish is a language and Spain is a country. English is a language and England is also a country. Guess why? Because its the country the language came from? Wow, who would believe it??!! Yes, you have embarrassed yourself. Im not an American hater by any stretch of the imagination, but it comes as no surprise to click on your profile & find you are an American.

  • Im ENGLISH.. and even I like this song.

You know.. English.. the race this band hates

    Its a crazy world

  • ENGLISH is a race? Silly me, I thought it was a language. LOL

  • Well English is spoken all over the world but originated in england.. obiously, while the scots had galic but thats gone and we speek english too, ANYWAY..

So since england is a country they are a race of english people, i'm from the human race (and scottish) so.. if u are american and i asume so, you are from the american race.. :)

  • we dont wanna talk about love we just wanna get drunk

  • i was told by a reliable source that the song was cleverly written to come across as being about the upper classes looking down on the lower classes when in actual fact it is about womens rights and women sacrificing themselves so that life could be better for women in future generations or summit. something about women achieving equal rights anywho. either way its a genius song.

  • I'm doing english lit. and am quite good at dissecting such meanings in poetry, which is practically what MSP lyrics are, and I have no idea how they could have thought it's about suffrage, women's rights and that. It seems to purely be about the lower classes, and how the upper classes look down on them.

  • this is a true classic!!!

  • Bryvs Mekis: writer in Athens GA wrote: "Life and How to Live It" ReM named a very appealing album by this. my best bud in the world has an orig. copy!! I 'am freaking out.

  • this is good.

  • i was drunbk so ammend it as you see fit and yes im still drunk when writing this the only difference being is that im no w looking where i put my fingers,,lol but good band ..good welsh lads. and thats from a geordie were not that diferent.

  • how way the preachers exellent band everone of then it dont matte if there gay an shit like that.just a good group of lads..9/10 nothings perfect...

  • nicky, the bassist who wears skirts, is married with kids. they really aint gay =p....

  • thats y the songs chorus is ironic

  • the song is about how rich people look down on regular people and the manics are saying that there life is about more than "just wanting to get drunk"

  • Awesome string arrangements.

  • a classic!!!! remind me of '96 a great year!!!!

  • That's not the reason why this song sends a shiver down my spine mate

  • Discovering this track and the Manics 'Everything Must Go' CD pulled me out of one of the darkest times of my life. It made me cry but lifted me and gave me HOPE! Thanks lads. God bless R. Edwards.

  • only reason it sends shivers down peoples spine is cause this album EVERYTHING MUST GO that contained this song had the last ever lyrics of richy manic after he disappeared. the albums after this one were never the same or up to the standard of the first four. My opinion.

  • "Hope lies in the proles!"

    My fav quote from 1984...

  • Beautiful...still sends a shiver down the spine!!

  • i love it when the manics do epic songs such as this and then match them with cinematic videos. awesomeness!!!

  • tidy song like wiv sharp lyrics. mtfbwya

  • I'm not a fan of this group,....BUT,...when this came out i could not deny that i loved this track! ;)

One of my all time favourite tunes!

So powerfull and it actually means something when you listen to the lyrics!

I use to sing this song out loud when i was in my mates Car during the Summer,..and we use to get these funny look's Lol! ;)

    We didn't care though! ;)

A classic song that will never be forgotten by me!

  • all the manics lyrics have meaning, thats why a mogority of the songs send shivers through you (or in this case me), they don't just sing about nonsense

  • 35k views. Disgraceful. I searched for this video expecting like 3 million views +

  • Lets spam this video den :P

  • add one more to that and glad I did

  • Totally fived and faved! Great song.
