I havnt built the reset part, but my cart are tuckering about around 1100 blocks. I have a few turns in the system. Do I need to use those pressure plates on the turns or something? I only need 500 more blocks of distance
I haven't finished it yet, but as for the first wooden push plate, I had to create a full circle around it. I tested it and it still only gets pushed once, it just requires a bit more and a few more track pieces. I tested it around the edges and it never made contact. Im playing Beta 1.2.02
When I put the redstone torches vertically it causes the system to reset every lap of the minecarts do until the boat hits the wooden pressure plate which causes the system to do a normal lap (Its the exact opposite of what it should do) any tips?
@MrBlackychanable I think something wrong on the boat and wooden pressure plate part of the counter, check that out, that can be what is not working, check the wiring below the plate and check the prssure plate and the first torch is conected properly and its not giving power to it.

Just wanted to say thank you for the great idea's. I've been able to replicate your techniques and we've now a Mass Transit system in the works on our server. I plan on adding a few things to make and ultimate rail station including a destination switch and a auto-starter for the perpetual motion machine (sometimes it doesn't start whenever you log in. ordos.dyndns.org is our server
I did everything shown in the video, the booster seems to be allright, the problem is that it doesnt reset. I thought that might happen because the 5 counter is not working alright so i went down and checked it and some doors wasnt working (the "corner ones" and the boat gets always stuck and doesnt goes ahead. I think theres also a problem with the circuit that goes to the reseter but im not sure because the door/boat problem Any suggestions? Thanks
@GordonnFred Well, i tried to put the boat inside the counter form diferent places but it still gets stucked and it gets stucked anyways. Thats a problem with boats that glitches and clips into the wall (or the bottom of the pool) I dont know what to do. I also dont understand how to attach the whole thing with the main line...
@8L33D I'm finding it harder and harder to answer questions completely on this page. If you go to the forum link in the description, I can give you a full explanation of what's going wrong and help you fix things.
@The8bitEngineers Well, im having problems to login into the forum, i have an account but cant log into the forums (works for the game) anyway. Maybe he problem is that i have built the counter with dirt instead of cbble. I ignored that because even if your is built with dirt, its still works. I just dont understand... Maybe is an orientation problem ? i dont know what else i can do to fix it. Plus i dont understand how to attack the sistem (counter+boosters) to the main track.
WARNING: Squid appear to have broken the reliability of the boat counter. A redstone or some other alternative is needed so long as squid spawning conditions remain as they are.
@The8bitEngineers Oh, thank you. Someone needs to update Minecraft Wiki on squid then. Do you know if squid continue being unable to spawn when water is deep but the bottom is still not dirt or sand? Or is this only true for shallow water like the boat counter uses?
Loved this video, and I got it to work eventually, but it would've been more useful to build the whole thing from scratch, rather than doing it in two parts and not really explaining how to line it up. I messed up on the five counter twice because it was off a square or two and the redstone couldn't connect without the input running into the output.
So mine is set up exactly like yours except my minecart doesnt hit the wooden pressure plate. Any suggestions on what I could try. I got all the wiring correct and the counter, but the cart wont push the plate. Thanks.
@itsfreshson Welllll you have two options- Check out the forum link in the description box (there are pics to solve the issue) or wait till the minecart dispenser tutorial, which will show the quirks of the pressure plate hitting system in a bit more depth.
@The8bitEngineers I got that part all set. Now Im running into the problem of the departure cart. So when Im ready to leave it will switch the track to send me the boost but it wont switch the track back when I get off which doesnt reset the booster cart and it ends up getting stuck. Pretty sure I have the wiring right for that part.
I eagerly await this minecart dispenser tutorial. All versions I've seen so far involve half-blocks and do not fall straight down onto the track as yours did, which is what I want. If you could send me a PM with a picture or short explanation of the system pre-video, that'd be very helpful in terms of getting my track system up sooner.
@itsfreshson I too am replicating this setup, and I just solved this problem. I had a block (sand) next to my pressure plate - it was under the higher reset track (although I could remove it). After I took it out, the plate fires perfectly.
@itsfreshson make sure no blocks are next to the pressure plate. I had a block of sand under the reset loop that was causing this problem for me. When I removed the adjacent block, the problem was solved.
Great video, very informative. However, I was watching it in order to replace the slow waterfall climbing method I use to go from my mine shaft to my main base. Whenever you got to the next step, you always said to use something that I didn't have in my maine shaft storage. So I had to go back to my main base and get it and go back. If you do another video, it would be nice to have a list of items used at the beginning. Besides that, it was a great video and the trick works great. Thank you.
@Bal0rCIM alright im just gonna say it...YOU are an idiot. That type of set up is not stable, as stated. The carts often disappear or get derailed, and they do not boost each other continuously. They boost for a split second and STOP. Thus you do not get boosted anywhere and is not automated.
THIS smart booster in the video is simply amazing! I love the 5-counter as well!
@BjornG8710 As in multiple carts jammed into one? Those are never stable, but they will send it a bit farther than the smart booster. But you're more than likely to come back to find them vanished, or derailed. You just cant make a good station with them.
@The8bitEngineers hmm, haven't had any issues after several reloads / visits to nether etc with my SSP save. I use a door booster that starts a stacked booster though so no carts are in motion unless I press a button / pressure plate to start a boost.
@BjornG8710 I mean a good automated system. You have to place the cart, and at the end you have to destroy it. It's also a little bit overkill with glitches- if something about minecarts gets fixed, it's more likely that things like that will be before boosters.
@The8bitEngineers ah, you mean stacked carts you ride in? I meant stacked carts boosting you. Maybe your solution gives longer travel-distance than that?
Great stuff, just talk like a normal human, your voice is annoying me, just talk normally. Also 3x3x1 is not a cube. I don't care if you say it wrong, but if you try to annotate later to fix it, but fail, just don't. Good job on this, if I have half the skill you have, I might be able to do this.
I wish you had started from the ground up, saying to build the minecart tracks and then dig down beneath them was a pain to start with, but when you switched to a fresh area to build it by itself then I was lost >.< How do i know if they are lined up correctly?
This design mostly works for me in beta SMP, but the switching side's track keeps bending into an S shape when it triggers the wood plate, is this the south west rule or something that's cropped up in beta?
@MechaManiac10 You need to place a redstone torch next to it if you are facing a certain direction, and you cant remove it as far as ive found or it snaps into that S shape you are describing.
Hmm, isn't there a way to make a red stone counter? Like a row of T-flops or something smaller maybe? I have no problems with collecting the red dust needed, there usually is plenty of redstone to find in caves. Your counter just seems so complex to make, not to say a redstone counter would be less complex but at least I only need red dust to make it and nothing else xD
i can't get it to work, the boat wont set off the wooden pressure plate, (that's what its supposed to do right?) so the out put meant to reset the boosters wont work, everything else works like a charm though.
I don't really understand why you build that whole reset-thing. You coud have just let your minecart resetz with every run, or am I missing something? I made you a screenshot of how I meant it.
It took a good couple of attempts but I managed to FINALLY replicate this. You may wish to provide a layer-by-layer view from the ground up. I followed your build order but I had to make sure I had the wires that came down so I could figure where everything needed to go below.
Excellent tutorial. It taught me a few new things about mine carts. I particularly liked the trick to make a mine cart trigger a pressure plate without leaving the tracks. Good job adapting the boat memory unit to suit your needs.
Oh yeah, "It hits it everytime". I have built this exactly as you have told me and it at first hit the pressure plate but for some reason it stopped. I put it on the other side of the loop and it works but it switches the track.
@Misterspork57 Erm, I certainly never had the issue of it not hitting the pressure plate, you might have the orientation of the booster in a different direction, you have to build the side with the pressure plat facing west or south. I would just try placing it again and see what happens, it could just be a small error in building it.
@The8bitEngineers Ok, i just checked, and the loop is facing south. I rebuilt the loop the same way and replaced the cart, and it still doesnt hit it.
@Misterspork57 Huh... I'm at a lost... well make sure that you have it boosting when you are checking it, it doesn't hit the plate when it's going at anything less than full speed, so just trying to push it to make it go over probably wont work. If it's still not working, go on the forums and show me some pictures and I'll see what's going wrong.
@The8bitEngineers My friend has the same problem. Its set up right and even at full speed it wont hit the plate. It only hits it when you slowly push it over the plate. I build one myself in the same sever and i did not have a problem. Although i did have a different problem. I think? If it runs for a long time the carts get glitchy and they appear off track. Not sure if it affects it or not.
@Misterspork57 On my first station the cart hit the pressure plate as intended, on my second one it did not. I noticed that the 2x2 loop on my second station had walls next to it where my first station did not. I removed these walls and it now works!
