  • Android and the G1 is gonna be the IPHONE KILLER.

  • you right :D

  • Friend finder application? It'll be pretty fun when the government starts using that application to find its' "friends" too. Maybe that's why they haven't found their old friend "Osama" yet because they didn't give him a phone with applications like "friend finder", they only gave him weapons instead

  • i agree!!! lmao

  • Pretty nice!

  • The french Blog on Android Google Gphone

Le blog francais sur le Gphone sous Android de Google

  • About writing your own apps for the iphone, good luck, about 90% of the developers that applied for the registered iphone SDK got rejected, I've been coding on unix systems in the industry for 7 years they turned me down, so yeah feel free to write apps for only your iphone, and no one elses, this is why so many people have jailbroken thier phones, truely anyone that can produce code can distribute it with android, UNIX foundations, many platforms, what do you call java? its not unix but...

  • That's a prototype, yo. Android is just the OS. Since it's open source, phone manufacturers could implement their own text input systems.

  • Android is built on Linux. No one can write code like Apple? Is that perhaps why their new operating systems are built on BSD? And wait, doesn't the iPhone utilize Google's Maps AJAX technology? Apple has always meant "proprietary," Android will work with MANY devices. Sloppy code or not, the foundation code should be stable, c'est la android.

  • @NinjaSkitch

If you did not know, Apple are for lazy peoples. It's simple. Everything is just a single touch away - which is great for people who doesn't know about tecnology, and for people who wants everything to be served for them, and that's okay.

  • @NinjaSkitch

    and

But with Android, that's completly diffrent. You have to work with it, and by that you'll get a more personal phone/mini laptop, as it's not a toy like an iPhone, it's something that symbolises you. It's also very nice to use, and if you didn't know, androids system is faster than iPhones :). It also got Flash, so you can play games, and watch some videos you can't do on a iPhone/iPad.

  • @NinjaSkitch and

When the android 2.2 comes out (this month) it would be 2,5 x faster on internet browsing than a iPhone, which makes it to the worlds fastest! and the phone that runs on android, will also be faster than it allready is, and that's faster than an iPhone.

So, Apple's iPhones are for lazy people with no or a little knowlegde to tech, and android are for the person who doesn't want another toy, but something that got a wow-effect, like a mini laptop :)

  • @92Adem92 I got a Motorola Droid a few months ago, and I love it :) My previous job was writing iPhone applications, and after using the android SDK, I definitely prefer coding for android than iPhone. I also love that android is integrated with all of the free Google services, whereas the Apple equivalent is a mobileMe subscription.

  • @NinjaSkitch Wauw :D ,,,SOrry, I thought that the c'est la android ment something like "Goodbye android" :)

But nice one NInja...I was woundering to start writing applications for android, but then I had no idea how to start hehe. I'm 17, and I study economy .. developing apps etc are not my strong side, but I have a little passion inside me, that wants to be a computer-nerd :P ..

but keep up the good work Ninja!. I appreciate it!

  • @92Adem92 LOL that was my pompous way of saying Android does have a strong backend where they can allow open development, where iPhone has their lengthy review process.

Passion is all you need to learn how to write software! As long as you're willing to spend HOURS googling, reading reference guides, and discovering through trial and error, then you'll be fine. The learning process tends to weed out the folks that don't have enough motivation (as with any hobby I guess). I recommend downloading

  • @92Adem92

the SDK and fiddling with the demo apps. More importantly, grab an introductory Java book from Amazon and try getting familiar with the language before dealign with Android. Even after knowing the language, it can still be pretty difficult to learn how the android API works.

    Good luck!

  • @NinjaSkitch Apple is the best that's way they don't use anything but their own stuff. Prossesors and OS and such. But they use intel possessors and windows OS. They can't play all the games though? Not anything made after quake 2 it sounds like. But they have a cult following though. That is all they got. To bad they could be playing games and running software if they just would play along.

  • Spoken like a true Mac drone. You really don't even get what Android is about, and your claim about Apple writing the best code is a joke. Why don't you click your one button mouse a bit and do some research to find out what OS X is based on, or the iPhone Safari browser for that matter. Enjoy your outdated hardware and vendor lock-in while the rest of us step into a platform that will change the way we live.

  • also he will enjoy paying 600 dollars for his phone

  • or about 1600 with that contract...

  • 5 thumbs up! Well said.

  • Fuck the iPhone. Waste of money for a fancy looking phone that will look cool to your friends but really doesn't do jack shit besides feature a touch screen (WOOOOOOOW).

  • BRUCE LEAk!

  • iphone has shit for games

  • nice legs!

  • I think most of the previous posts miss the point that this is going to be the OS mobile turf war run on any mobile device be it, iphone, Docomo phone or Nokia.

One thing i like is the 3G compatibility which is essential for high speed downloading. iphone doesnt have it and will soon be regreting it.

so i gonna get started on my application widget now and make a few million bucks...

  • wifi or 3G are the same important many spots of wifi are free, and the 3G accounts of some cellphone providers are expense.

  • hey, if you want that PLATFORM to be successful

you have to present it in a nice package, DONT SAY WAHT IT CAN DO, SHOW IT !! iphone is successful because it looks good not because it has revolutionary technology. MAKE IT LOOK GOOD AND RUN FAST and then present it with lot tralala!!

  • "iphone is successful because it looks good not because it has revolutionary technology"

I completely agree with you, and that makes me sad.

  • This is not about or against Iphone, this is a new PROJECT, a development tool for Mobile phones.

Keep your lame insecurities for kiddy sites such MySpace or FaceBook

  • "iphone is successful because it looks good not because it has revolutionary technology"

    That's really Apple in general.

  • they used "star trek" lol very classic!

  • You know, that's a pretty strange view of the Internet, coming from someone posting a comment for a video clip on YouTube.

  • Why isnt my name Bruce Leak? Damn.

I hope he doesnt sell insider info though.

  • Very impressive.

  • nice thighs.

  • Tri-Quarters are here! It's about fucking time. SkyPop might be the truth.

    Word. 4.7 STARS * * * *

  • do we need to see this fuckers legs

  • lol =)

  • i have been dissing google's new software... but i do have to admit... that white phone they are using is extremely sexy... i want one... i hope its gunna be available and not just a demo phone to show off the platform

  • Friend finder??? boost mobile and disney already came up with similar technology and personally i find it very creepy.... what ever happened to privacy...and as for as keeping track of kids... that can be saved for the other gadgets... obviously me and most people arent gunna need that

  • This video is just showing how easy it is to develop on Android. They're not saying that "friend finder" is innovative or new in any way.

  • What's gonna sell the Gphone when it finally comes out is the cost and availability of the device and the associated data plan.

  • Well first of all there is no Gphone, there's just the mobile OS platform so this software will be turning up on phones from all sorts of companies though I think HTC will probably be the first to get it out since they have no trouble quickly whipping up crappy phones.

Secondly normal phones don't have associated data plans or anything like that, that's the iPhone and Steve Jobs wanting to control everything you do with it.

  • Seriously. Although the IPhone is neat, it will not be able to hold a candle to this OS. There just isn't any 3rd party developer capabilities. Tell me something, does the I-Phone support GPS? I don't think it does. Location based awareness in your phone is gonna rock. And there is this $10M developer challenge from google... By the time Android comes out, it will already have the absolute best apps all created from 3rd party users.

    This has some real possibilities.

  • actually. the iphone does support GPS with outer part applications, which the iphone also has hundreds of.

  • Agreed if this takes off it'l blow the iphone out the ball park, if i were Steve Jobs I'd be having nightmares about androids

  • Not exactly slizzoff.

In my opinion you have not brought arguments to your affirmation.

Did you managed to check the architecure of Android? You may want to have a look on the other videos released by androiddevelopers.

I do not care that Google is behind it. I would probably use it even if you would have created it. Though, you would have had some difficulties on supporting and providing documentation for such a platform.

  • how do u think id have some difficulties?

  • Android is the best mobile os and development platform "in existence" today (soon to be) and here are my reasons:

    1. makes you extremely productive because you are focused on the business logic of you application. You do not need to focus on the underlying architecture like for example memory management.

  • only Windows mobile really has an issue with this

  • 2. the ability to use the existing components in your applications to handle specific actions like picking up a photo is simply amazing. Have you ever tried to include something like this in a classic Java ME application?

    3. you have access to the entire software capabilities. Symbian or classic Java ME applications would require permissions for specific actions like reading the phone contacts. To make things simple for the users, you need to have the application signed etc...

  • very tiny and boring improvement

  • I can highlight so many more, like the Location Manager. Think to an application that would always show the location of your kids! Try to make that on phones that are shipped today!

Android will allow a lot of innovative applications to get on the market and the end user is the one that will benefit more. We will all have a much better mobile experience.

  • This will be a cool application!

  • What the fuckin kind of phone is it?

  • It's not a phone, it's an operating system that will run on multiple phones.

  • Ye i know it but, did you see the white phone where android's runnin now?!

What kind of phone is it?!

  • It's probably just something they knocked up to work as a sandbox for the OS and to test it with. It'll never go to market.

  • Bruce lee

  • heh, looks interesting.

  • No one bothered replying cos it was a retarded comment. This video wasn't supposed to impress you it was supposed to impress potential developers. The applications in this are probably never gonna leave that guy's office, it's just demonstrating how the Android platform is fast and simple to develop for.

  • jeez put on some pants

  • I think it's fine just the cameraman is a fuckin' fag lol

  • Perhaps it was a camerawoman.

  • These things could be useful but the presentation is so bad...

  • Oh thanks, now I got it, it's like startrek, like finding friends instead of finding aliens. (00:56)

  • hahahaa what was hilarious

  • funny as fuck even tho it was a year ago... lmao

  • PORQUE NO TE CALLAS?

  • I wish I could go to work like that... wearing shorts.

  • hey i'm an executive. i decided not to wear pants to work today.

  • Bruce;

Next time you make a video for Google, but some pants on. I do not want to see your business flop out of those shorts.

And Google: you approved this video?!

  • Hey this is silicon valley. Have you seen they way Facebook's CEO dress up? It's very informal.

  • you would notice that u faggot

  • Put on some pants.

  • cool. but every fucking phone i buy is locked by the service provider.

  • Everyone pretend to care so they'll stop shoving this down our throats.

  • Lol for a minute there I thought he said Bruce Lee

  • Mobile porn will be the newest industry

  • nice IRON GIANT poster

  • short pants, eh?

  • Bruce Leak: Brilliant I'm sure, but dude--you can't wear shorts in a video where the camera is positioned where this camera is positioned. I mean, too much leg.

  • Bruce Lee? haha.

  • i love that feature!!

  • WHO IS THIS gay?????

  • I thought this was gonna be karate.

  • this is a great one

  • nice short!

  • great!

  • haha good point about the balls.

but is it just for fun, or is it realy something we should want to have.

  • funny what your talking about works with his name... bruce leak...

  • funny how everyone copies helio's buddy beacon these days..

  • i thought he was introduced as Bruce Lee... whahhaha

  • Same. I was like, no you're not, then his name came up :P

  • Did he really think showing his balls would be a selling point?

  • "Put the mouse back in the house" would make a good game for the Android platform.

  • OMG! i was just thinking yesterday about having a friend locater when I was trying to get directions rom a half drunk friends to a party he was at, this is gonna be sweet once its out.

  • do know if the friend locating was dynamic (based on where the friend actually is at the time) or static (based on freinds static address)?

  • the location would be dynamic as the location would be provided by the LocationManager. But your friend's phone should either be GPS enabled or his service provider should be able to provide the location (based upon cell id's]

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. I am not sure if you are the developer or .... I am not famiollier with the location manager. Are you saying that it has the physical location of the phone based the GPS avilable in the phone? I am very interested about this subject matter and have ddone some research on it. THere used to be 'issues', governmental stuff to obtainbing that information.

I wouidl like to talk more about this my direct email is toddtk A-T Comcast D-O-T following NeT

  • Would it have killed Bruce to wear pants?

  • stalkr (beta)

  • Cool... but what's up with the shorts?

  • he wants to show off those calfs lol

  • "The boys are out of the barracks" as Alan Partridge might say.
