  • What happened to the lyrics to this?

  • Ann Sothern was definately a class act but it wasn't an act she knew the meaning of the word. It is hard to believe she was 51 when she did this episode, but since when is that ancient? I had the honor of meeting that dear lady in 1988, however, it was only by mail. An honor just the same though. Would love to see more comments from the rest of you.

  • all of the good ole actors and actresses are no longer. why cant we come up with the same type actors as these..but then we would need the same morals and values taught back then we maynot ever see again on screen or in life. I loved growing up in the 50's and 60's more than the years we live in now. this is why I love this show and others from those times.

  • great show

  • Hard to believe she was 51 at this point

  • We need a "Turner Classic Television" channel for all of these great, but never played shows!

  • Who did the musical arrangement? It sounds like Nelson Riddle or Billy May, but ...anyone know?

If it's in the credits, my eyes are shot from trying to read them.

As for Ann being hot, standards were far different- women were appreciated for natural gifts that are now manufactured and implanted. Final thought: taste has and will always be individual, no matter how badly marketing geniuses think they can persuade us.

  • I don't know why I thought about this show, other than I remember having good feelings back when tv was free

  • How I love the theme music from this show and others of that era. I was a little young to see and appreciate the show during its original run, but I would love to see the whole series released on DVD. If I'm not mistaken, Ann Sothern had more than one TV series. Does anyone know these other shows?

  • iM A TV FILM HISTOTIan, I knew 1000 performers from the 60s-70s ad i knew annie Sothern. wat a darling human being cute bubbly adoring in real life the genuine article. Katie or Susie she was great in films & yv, Lets see hyer show on dvd tomk

  • @tomkes100 You didn't know anyone you nasty old pervert. "Annie" Southern my ass, you phony hot baloney sucker. Why don't you just give it up already. You're just a perv trolling for hot young bodybuilders.

  • Spramped,

Wondering if you have any of the earlier opening credit sequences for "The Ann Southern Show" which have song lyrics and really great animation. I remember it from 20 years ago on Nick at Nite. It was really fantastic animation--way ahead of it's time!

One 3 part series of the show has been posted on Youtube but is not available for viewing (been removed). Thanks!

  • I remember it from Nick @ Nite too! it was a GOOD show...I used to watch it every morning before I went to school *cuz they put it on SOOOO Early in the AM* right before Dobie Gillis.

  • We need The Ann Sothern Show on DVD a Great Classic!!!

  • Alas that Ann put on a great deal of weight in her later years, in contrast to her '30s and '40s svelteness.

  • And that's the reason she only voiced over "My Mother The Car", instead of actually showing herself in person on there because of her hepititus(or weight) problem, and Ms. Sothern prefered NOT to be seen.

  • That's right, 'fromthesidelines'. I meant to put the episode title and the air date that it came out, but thank you anyways for pointing that out!

  • This is from a third season episode ("Hasta Luego", first telecast on November 17, 1960), when the vocals for the show's theme {"Katy"} had been eliminated from the opening and closing titles in favor of an instrumental version, 'vzeu'. This print is from a '70s reissue, long before "Metromedia" was acquired by News Corp. in 1986.

  • This is an syndicated opener/closer of "The Ann Sothern Show" because on the original broadcasts, an announcer would say, "And now, The Ann Southern Show--Starring Ann Southern!" and male vocals singing-"As Katy!" and whistles to the theme.

  • I THOUGHT I remember the song having lyrics.

  • Do you mean the opening, or closing theme?

  • *shrugs shoulders*...it's been over 20 years since I've seen it.

  • Yes, it did have some rather corny lyrics, especially given that its star was middle aged and not exactly in shape ("all the fellas go for Katie" followed by sexy whistling). This is apparently an abbreviated version of the opening.

  • But who's to say what is sexy? I know plenty of fabulous women over age 40 who are not thin who get tons of play. Sexy is a state of being. And Ann didn't look bad for her age, not really.

  • I love it! I love it! I love it!

  • I would love to see a legitimate DVD release of Ann Sothern's TV shows. But you can leave out "My Mother the Car"!

  • @jeprice08 ME TOO!! Ann Sothern was a class act!

  • @ncdude367 Hear, hear!
