  • This is my fav version of this song. Love the music, the mix and singing.

  • wow...reminds me of back in the day.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • If someone is not treating you with love and respect it is a gift if they walk a way from you. If that person doesn’t walk away you will surely endure many years of suffering with him or her. Walking away may hurt for a while but your heart will eventually heal. You will find that you don’t need to trust others to make the right choices. When you make it a strong habit not to take anything personally you avoid many upsets in your life. Your anger jealousy and envy will disappear.

  • This was always my favorite version of this song. Of course, I forgot about this song until I watched Single White Female and it was on the closing credits. Ha!

  • @Kelby4581 haha, me too!

  • @Kelby4581 Dito And then I remembered it for some reason sounded familiar to me. Then I saw the Dona Summer Link and listen to it I love both versions. and its still not long enough.

  • I've always loved the original version (Jon & Vangelis - The Friends of Mr. Cairo album), but Chrissie's voice has turned this into a somewhat new song.

    I love it.

Thank you very much for the video!!!

  • Love this so much still...it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!!!!

  • I like this cover version. I've added it to my FB group dedicated to cover versions. It's called "the Guilty Pleasure of the Cover Version" feel free to join in.

  • ageless isn't she....wow

  • @ljmarAtHome wow shes dressed liek docotor who with allt he frills and colors. Shes beautiful.

  • got goosebumps even though I adore Vangelis in the main

  • This is a New Age, synthy, 80's, hippy type song. Chrissy Hynde has a great voice but this song is completely wrong for her and this arrangement is simply a remix with a generic hip-hop beat and bass. This song was composed by two guys (Jon Anderson & Vangelis) who are genius composers and instrumentalists at heart and it was later covered by another genius Quincy jones for Donna Summer. There is a reason for the sound and lyric. Listen to the original and Donna Summer's version and learn.

  • @ColinBobbyDartford There is a fragilty to her voice that makes this very sensual. She's singing to one person not the world. I like both.

  • @ColinBobbyDartford Complete and utter CRAP

  • @deanpp1 The song's not to my taste but I wouldn't say it was THAT bad.

  • @ColinBobbyDartford your comment not the song was crap

  • @deanpp1 No shit? I guess you have issues with irony. :-D

  • @ColinBobbyDartford It would help if you were being ironic

  • @deanpp1 It seems not.

  • Comment below should read sing , not song.

  • Wow, Chrissie can really song, her voice is like no other, 10/10.

  • just noticed she's on London Bridge. it hasn't changed much.

  • I`ve got this cd.But I've never seen the video before

Did you hear it perfomed by Vangelis ? From THE FRIENDS OF MR. CAIRO . i LOVE THAT VINYL !!!

  • I`ve got this cd.But I've never seen the video before

  • Hyde's voice is just sublime. Is it actually better than Donna Summers' ? The jury is out. I absolutely love this cover though.

  • @gefnanroolz It is. Better than Summers. Jury in. : )

  • brillant song and singer.

  • levez les bras au ciel

  • Best version of this song yet!

  • this song was played of the end of that movie single white female ;) love this song

  • how ironic this peaceful beautiful man was taken away by hatred and violence.

  • how ironic this beautiful was killed in hate and violence

  • her voice a beautiful gift, her attitude a self made beautiful thing.

  • i love this song

  • this is much better version than anderson or summer specially when it continues to the 3rd part and has the martin luther king speech just gives me chills

  • GREAT :)

  • wow OMG im in love with this song

  • Nice, but the original Jon Anderson version beats this AND the Donna Summer version. It's just more genuine.

  • yesterady saw Single White Female again, beautiful song

  • I was watching single white female...seen it a long time ago...but when the credits rolled....this song played and I freaked. I remember this song...who sings it?...I gotta find it! (found!) Thank you curvehn! This made my day!

  • Jon Anderson version is good also

  • first listened to this on my dads record player lol ... goooo vinyl

  • They were on the soundtrack for the movie Single White Female and I just love their sound...they way I feel when I hear them... I have not heard of them before. It's very relaxing and feel-good. I love their style....it's just happy/uplifting/spirit happy!

  • Always have LOVED this!!!!

  • OMFG...love love love this song!!!!!!

  • this for me is chill-out music, just sit back and relax.i have the Moodswings CD .it one of the nicest ever.

  • This the ending song of "Single White Female".I love it now they made the remake called "Roomate".

  • @mistacord That Roommate movie reeks of RIP-off! Never will they have the ability to re-make what is a cult classic - Single White Female. Love this song, by the way. :)

  • This was the last song played at Philmore's Big Beat in Saltburn. Strange choice seeing as though in 1990 we were all cock eyed. Still love it though as it takes me waaaay back!

  • @IYAMNI --- Totally agree. It's all a matter of preference. I came to see/hear this version of the song and saw some dude below saying:

"It doesn't matter who does this song...the 1994 jon anderson version is by far and away the best, he has the best voice, better than donna summer and chrissy hynde"

I was merely responding to his comment. If he likes that one better, let him give props to the vids of Jon's version and don't dis our girl Chrissie, who happens to be an icon to many of us. :D

  • I have the moodswings cd- a great listen, beginning to end.

  • I heard this on Sirius XM's Electronica station but they played a roughly 13-15 minute version of this song that includes MLK's I Have a Dream Speech and some more vocals by Chrissy. I wish/hoped they made a video for that extended version.

  • what a nice song..

  • I heard this onSingle White Female..

  • @ccg1171 lol omg so did i! thats why i came to listen to it here i loved the song

  • Sorry but Jon's 1981 version was def groundbreaking but his voice is way too cloying for the depth of the lyrics. Donna gave it some teeth and made it her own, and then Chrissie / Moodswing put their more ethereal spin on it. Nice that a great song can hold up after like 30 years :)

  • @NamasteSuz What is or is not cloying is a matter of preference. Completely subjective. I will always prefer Jon & Vangelis version and never forget that it is Jon vision and these words contain his spirit.

  • I'm an old fan, Old School ' , This will go viral { this years most over used word} . Chriss at her best .....best everything.

  • omg, I first heard this song back in 93 and when I watched single white female....and I absolutley still love it, sooooo mesmerizing and sensual, try playing while with your partner, wow.././. 1:33......

  • For those who haven't heard the whole Mood Swings album that this song came from, it's a great album. Most of it is electronic music with a few vocals, but it's great from beginning to end.

  • @ls1959

What´s the name of the album? Thanks.

  • @tlusta74 The album was Moodfood, released in 1992.

  • It doesn't matter who does this song...the 1994 jon anderson version is by far and away the best, he has the best voice, better than donna summer and chrissy hynde

  • @JonAnderson90125 Jon anderson is ok for a couple of yes records but chrissie is way more versitile

  • wow ... this is really niceee!!

  • @smeldridgman77 how can you still listen to this after all the horrible memories attached to it? If not for you but you know how I feel about it....:-(

  • @joopamama shup

  • looks like the assassin is trying to hard to produce those "tears"

  • oh wow i love this song!!

  • The "Donna Summer is a homophobe" rumor has been debunked like ages ago. Try and catch up.

  • @devlintks Right! Believe her publicists... she's a bigoted asshole.

  • This song always reminds me of the movie Single White Female. Like the movie, this song seems really melancholy

  • This was included on the "Pretenders: Greatest Hits" Even though Hynde INSISTED it be removed...as it's not a Pretenders song.

That note she hits at the very end is TO-DIE-FOR

  • first of all chrissie can do no wrong!she does a wonderful cover and i really like the connection to MLK.this is a great tune and she maybe is one of the few who could make it "alive".she is militant and beautiful all in the same breath.

  • such a classic :)

  • Incredible song!!

  • this reminds me of a certain lovely gf I once had........sexy gina with the long curvy hair......and eyes that would hypnotize me.

  • @74TheJoker you and me both! Sure her name wasn't Gina though!

  • @poulmorgan isn't crazy what women can do to us.........?

  • my gosh this brings back some memories.... :) (sigh) those were the days......

  • DID YOU KNOW: This version of the song is also in the credits of the movie "Single White Female"

  • google mp3ify to download this song from youtube.

  • This version is ALMOST as good as Jon/Vangelis...almost!!

  • lol my name is chrissie in real life :O

  • It's called The State Of Independence, I think.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR better than the Summer version. Thank you!

  • Feels like a call to love...makes one look back and stay or go and and move on..

  • C´mon ppl, just listen to Chrissie´s voice! i thoughts the comments were suppose to be about this wonderfull song.

  • genial!!!!

  • This is a Terrible Video.

The music is an absolute classic!

  • well kids..since we got off topic from the MUSIC..let us break the word down. homo= same phobic(a)= fear or morbid fear. Ok now we now the definition..Ok so now we must think where does fear come from? Well, for those of you who believe in God you believe fear is of the Devil. For those of you who don't believe fear is still a negative force. My thoughts about it all..we came here to watch a video so please ppl just try to keep your petty arguements to yourself. thanks

  • @JuNkCriSiS FOAD!!!

  • wow doooby! god is one your side and you want someone to die a slow and painful death. which god is that again that you worship? satan?

  • B E A utiful, I had a DJ mix of this with an absolutely brilliant scratch sample over the top, if anyone comes across it Pleeeeeeeeeeease pass it on. Great post 11/10

  • anybody got a version with the MLK ending

  • @seabuild I'm looking for that one too. The first time I heard it on the radio was right around the time Obama was up for election. If I find it, I will post a link or something.

  • This song was incredibly important to me when my father passed away, this was just about the only thing that gave me any peace. This album and my sense of humor were the only things that kept me going.

  • @tryanr ~so sorry~i hear where ur coming from~this is one of my favorite songs, 19yrs ago~so beautiful and peaceful..brings peace to your heart~Sending you love and light~~Namaste~keep ur light shining~

  • Awesome song...awesome video! Thanks for sharing.

  • @Screwbiedooo --Jon+Vangelis is YEAH MUCH BETTER! Although the various Chryssie/Moodswings mixes and white labels have served their functions. This IS NOT a bad version, but I can go back to both cassette and vinyl and say yes, old-school J & V is better. Anybody doubts it? Do your YouTube search for Jon and Vangelis, "State of Independence." check for yourself.

  • I heard the version by V&J. I like this version much better.

  • @drewskee67 i have most commercially available friends of mr cairo cd- lp versions and this stands right there with them.i guess i'm predejused,i think chrissie is a great singer

  • @nomiclas Learn to spell. Start with prejudice, lololololololol

  • @owenowen get a life!i hope i spelled this correctly?!

  • 1:50.

Try not getting chocked up when that choir kicks in!

  • Much better than Donna homophobic Summers.

  • @D000BY everything is wrong with homophobia... suck the water out of my shit you worthless waste of flesh.

  • @nicademus666 Donna Summer has raised more money for GLBT Centers through out the US . The Homophobic shit was debunked a long ago!

  • Comment removed

  • @nicademus666 That's a stupid persistant myth.

  • @Genedancingmachine No, this version is better than that skanky old ho did...

  • @MrMonsterstiffy i was talking about the "homophobic" part of that comment you twit or am i talking to a bored troll?

  • @Genedancingmachine you need to take the stick out of your ass or look up the word "wit" stoopid twat.

  • @MrMonsterstiffy 6 hours have passed. I've thought long and hard about your comment, i've looked up the word wit, tried to understand its meaning and i still don't see any remote connection at all with that and everything you've said so far. So refer to original conclusion: Bored Troll Twit.

  • i love it

  • restores your faith in music and humanity.

  • @SpiritOf1989 D000by, you are a fucking idiot. Think about it dumbshitboy.

  • Turn it up at 4:27 and you can Hear Hynde making the most beautiful sound ever

  • The lyrics to this song with the inclusion of MLKJ reach me on a very deep rooted phycholgical level. I want this song played at my funeral.

  • Grant Showbiz

  • : D : D : D : D : D : D : D

  • I first heard this song on the end credits of 'Single White Female' and I loved it ever since! A song that can make me watch the movie credtis till they end is an awesome song!

  • That's where I heard it the first time too. I only knew the Donna Summer version before that. It took a good six months to find the CD with this on it. Now I can see her sing it also.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, I know. I bought the album after finding that out. I actually didn't even know about the Donna Summer version until 2 weeks ago...lol.

  • I know after lookin up the lyrics..most say it says "bring me to meet your sound"...I always thought it said "bring me to me your son and i will bring you my heart ". As in she wants to be the mother of his children. Guess I got that wrong..would've been nice though lol

  • Chrissie's voice is soooo beautiful in this....one of my favs ever!!

  • omg! i luv this song. it brings out all kinds of emotions... its simply the best...

  • This is the best version of this song on YouTube. Thanks for posting!!

  • Sounds like a signal from you

Bring me to meet your sound

And I will bring you to my heart...... is beautifull .

  • The original is my all-time fav song in the world, but this is good too; better than the Donna Summer cover.

  • The text is from State of Independence, the original is from Jon and Vangelis.

  • I have the original extended remix vinyl release of this. Wonderful music, sounds gorgeous.

  • the lady has great voice ;)

  • Oh my Goddess!...what a beautiful voice....I love her!!

  • Nice story DonsSanctuary, but you don't use a phone while you're driving a dump truck--or anything else for that matter. Frankly, even listening to the radio while driving is a dangerous distraction.

  • Thank you drupa....for that .....whatever that was...........Dons comment was about the lovely Chrissie Hynde....Besides, I have been a truck driver for 10 years and have a clean record...even though I drive while talking on the phone, with music cranked loud, preparing a tossed salad, putting eye drops in while looking up at the ceiling, texting, shaving with a straight razor....Chrissie must be an angel.....she has the voice of one....

  • A beautiful soul...I have talked to her on the phone when she was on public radio 88.5 in Tampa FL.... a program called "talking Animals" had her as a guest...I was driving my dump truck and called in and she spoke to me..made me feel so good inside...

  • Phenomenal voice and style !

  • She has a remarkable voice.

  • Oh my goddess!....what a beautiful voice...I love her....

  • i have always loved chrissie.she' militant and kind all in the same breath.this is one of my favorite songs.the combo is so natural, beautiful!

  • Militant and kind. very cool thing to say

  • I originally heard this on "Single white female" known as "State of independence" by moodswings....amazing song!

  • great song

  • Love this! Have the 12" with parts 1, 2, & 3 of this song at a whopping 15 mins long. This is part 2. Part 3 is the Martin Luther King speech.

  • @Kiridis i would love to have your vinyl.it's just way too kool!

  • Her voice is truly amazing, this song makes me feel as if tomorrow will never die..truly a spiritual high

  • thx for sharing the jolt of reality and at the same time so high spirtualy high

(thx to the person who sent this to me)

  • The song is State of Independence and it is a tear jerking performance. In the gay community back in the day this song was used as the Aids Anthem as we buried our friends that were dropping like flies. Of course we played Donna Summer's rendition. I had totally forgotten about Chrissie's incredible rendition. Thanks whoever posted this. Glad those days are over.

  • I love this song. This is one of my favorite songs that Chrissie H. made. Who sang the chorus?

  • "an all-star choir including among others Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, James Ingram, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder."

  • @Clanmacallan do you have some info on this CD-group?i just bought the CD.i just kind wonder what was the intent?

  • I feel bad for Martin Luther King Jr.Thats why i love this song!Because everybody goes back in time to the man who shot Martin Luther King Jr.Then they rewind it so he didn't shoot him.And the song is lovely!Good work Chrissie!

  • this was a nice rediscovery for me today.

after a little investigation via wikipedia,

i learned that this duo featured Grant Showbiz,

    The Smiths' old sound man.

  • so is the song called "moodswings" or "spiritual high"?

  • Moodswings is the name of the group that Chrissie is singing with. Spirtual High is the name of the song...;)

  • The name of this song is "State of Independence" by Jon Anderson of YES. Donna Summer covered it as well.

  • Spiritual High ;=)

  • The song is actually titled, "The State of Independence." It's featured in the credits to the movie "Single White Female."

  • The group 'Moodswings' (two guys - one Pretender & his mate) worked this Vangelis classic 'State of Independence' into a 3 track EP entitled Spirtual High. One of the mixes called was Spiritual High (State of Independence). Mixes on the EP featured Chrissie on vocal and another heavily sampled Dr Martin Luther King's Dream speech. It's generally regarded as an Ibizian classic.

  • the one i'm looking for is the one with MLK's speech at the end.

    it crowns a great song.

    any suggestions,

I've been looking for ages. i hope to god it's not a WMG issue!

  • Certified Intergalactic! Like the drums.

  • What a haunting and moving vocal. I don't care about who's version is best. It's always about the music.

  • chrissie hynde/pretenders is/are coming back to the states Summer 2009. Catch her. This could be it for a long while. A gorgeous voice of truth.

  • Chrissie blows that homo-phobic douche Donna Summer out of the water with this!

  • there is so much more soul in this version

  • I first heard of Moodswings from an ex boyfriend of mine. He had a cassette copy of Moodswings. We used to cruse around and listen to moodswings. He had gotten AIDS and I spent as much time as I could with him. Unfortunately he could not take it anymore and decided to end his life. I never had the chance to say goodbye. How I miss him so much...Every time I listen to moodswings, it reminds me of him and cry for him...Rest in Peace my friend Orlando Garza...I love all of their songs.
