What a fantastic song this is, possibly one of my favourites by Eva, theres another version on you tube, Eva singing nightbird live, it's on ironizxcv, channel. Her voice is tremendous.
I recently read an interview with Doug McCloud, the writer of this song. He said the song is about a prostitute he knew. When he heard Eva's performance of the song he was so deeply moved that he will no longer perform the song, but refer people to Eva's version.
Its so sad that you left us too early!!!! but you left behind that beautiful gift of all time, your exceptional brilliant soothing voice that lift me up when am low.May you rest in peace sweetheart and continue to sing the angels above.xxx
There is no other song & singing deliverence & persona like Eva's. There are some pictures of her on her family's farm dressed like a country gentlewoman & I believe she gives a true likeness of herself instead of singing. You couldn't drag the country outta her with wild horses; singing was just a sideline for her and farming was hers and dirt was in her blood. "Agricola"(Farmer) was one of the oldest & most respected family names in ancient Rome. Go figure!
The question was raised once about how the ancient german vikings were able to hold onto control of a land like Roman Britian; or the province of Normandy given to their leader Rollo by the French king to stop ravaging up & down the Seine river; or the Swedish Rus tribe who held all of European Russia and all trading between Scandinavia and the Byzantine Empire (eastern Rome) Mediterrean sea. Well what was the long term ticket for them: FARMING. This was the one thing they did better than war.
I just "discovered" Eva Cassidy, boy have I missed out. Sure wish I could have seen her sing live. I am so grateful that someone captured so much of her singing and songs. What treasure!!
EVA, My God Girl...No wonder he took you up to sing for him...a bit selfish I think though ;-) xoxoxo God bless you Both! C-Ya's soon...I Hope! :-) xoxoxo Ya'll Take care! xoxo
Hello, great song, Written by Doug MacLeod a bluessinger. I spoked him a few weeks ago. When he heart Eva sing his song, he never have sing it any more. "This is how the song most be Sing"he said.
This woman can pull the heart right out of you with her music, and expose your innermost feelings to the world. Wouldn't trade her for the world.

Every song Eva sung, she didn't just borrow -she owned them. Classics all just melt into heavenly Eva'ness.

it's amazing she actually thought she couldn't sing! As if that were possible. She is fab and I just can't tire of hearing her.

Some old hotel room in Memphis
I see the city through the rain
I'm just chasing me my time
And remembering some pain
See there once was a boy
And on the street he'd surely die
But the nightbird took him in
And she taught him how to fly....
EXCELLENT!
