  • GintaPPE1000 Don't tell me that, tell trains magazine. I'm the one who's proud because my state has highspeed rail outside of the NEC. So HA!

  • Ah 95 is a start towards 110.

  • @USofMilitaryPower94 They can handle 120 MPH, according to Trains Magazine.

  • @Applachia0928 That is incorrect. The P42s and upgraded P40s are only allowed up to 110MPH.

  • why can't this be like the movies and a car stalls on the track

  • I'm not sure, but I don't think that the Horizon fleet coaches and cafe car can do over 100..... I know that the P42's can do 110 and that the Amfleets can do 125-135 (depending on when they were made) but I don't know about horizons....

  • @trinityct I think the fastest they can handle is 110.

  • @USofMilitaryPower94 You're right. I checked just yesterday what their capable speed is, and it is 110.

  • That was fast - I head that they were planning to upgrade this line to 110 mph for almost 10 years.

  • @Kingzoid Yea it took the state of Michigan forever to do it. They need to upgrade customer service and the equipment.

  • @truerailfan01 THis portion of the line will be 110 by the end of the summer as Amtrak installs ITCS, a PTC equivalent.

The state has also received funding to purchase and upgrade to 110 the Kalamazoo-Dearborn portion of the route from NS. So exciting times in the Blue Water state!

  • @LackawannaLtdVideos I know, I live in Detroit,MI. I have talked to the Amtrak employee in East Lansing last summer and he said " ITCS is unreliable & plus trains have ran at 95mph without the cab signals".

NS has been trying to sell Amtrak the Michigan Line since the end of Conrail, because they built a connection in Butler,IN to link the Chicago Line with the Detroit District (Wabash Main Line). Plus Amtrak, need to upgrade customer service and the equipment. 110 a great thing to see.

  • @truerailfan01 I heard that the line between Kalamazoo and Detroit has more than 100 curves. Hopefully they can still speed up service on that portion of the journey.

  • @vh16ft i know right. The freight traffic is light on the line & I personally wondered why haven't Amtrak just bought the line from NS.

  • @truerailfan01 I think the reason why Amtrak would not want to buy the track form NS would be because Amtrak would have to do the track work. That would cost allot more then just leasing it from NS.

  • @firelitebg12L NS is not going to do the track work anymore, that is why they're going to let the line deteriorate and cause Amtrak to have more delays. Plus Amtrak will have to do the track work if it wants 110mph track service.
