Of course, we didn't have this problem in the book. In the book, the Wicked Witch of the West was a minor character who appeared in one chapter after the Wizard sent them to kill her, and the whole thing was real as opposed to being a dream. I don't know why they made it a dream sequence in the movie. Not only did that completely undermine the plot, but it lost them the chance to make movies out of all the sequels that were written to appease the fan base.
