  • you're one of the few drummer I've heard that are able to make it sound good...I usually don't try to replicate famous drum fills, intro or groove, but I guess I should try, this is the bible for a drummer...

  • Nate, please, put more videos of your skills on this channel!! You rock!

  • Awesome job explaining that. I listened to a lot of Zeppelin when I was a young teen and I never really had a full grasp of what Bonham's intention was in that drum fill, but I never cared THAT much to really figure it out either. I'm glad I know now though. It's really odd to start 3 beats before the one. Thanks!

  • that intro is really tricky!

  • Funny, back in high school in the 80s I played this song on bass in a band and for whatever reason I never thought out the timing of it, I just heard the song so many times I knew where to come in without even thinking about it.

  • You make it look so easy! :-)

    Excellent clip AND teaching skills.

  • thank you so much... I really enjoy teaching and I'm happy you were able to gain something from my video

  • Nate is the man in just willing to share his knowledge and experience about drumming. I have always enjoyed every clip Nate does, and just learnt so much. Blessings Nate, you rock!!!

  • no, YOU rock. :-) Thanx for the compliments. Much appreciation.

  • ...I just wanna say that you're doing great job by educating others!

Please keep up your talented work - my total respect and support!!

  • You are too kind. I always enjoy the opportunity to share a ideas with other musicians. Thanx!

  • ha ! maybe i'm the one who needs to be schooled. another drum historian/friend tells me that it's charles connor who first rocked this beat.

either way, bonham copped it and nate owns it. props EVERYWHERE !!!

( that'll teach me to write in the AM without coffee )

  • nice job... now... how about a little credit where credit is due to the fantastic drummer Earl Palmer ( RIP) who bonham COPIED THIS EXACT RIFF FROM on Little Richard's Keep a Knockin. Know your history folks :-)

  • You're absolutely right. My bad. I had just been working on Rock & Roll with the band on Rock The Cradle. Def props to Earl P.

  • Man I had no idea it started on that beat. I always assumed it was on one and Zep just found the beat with the odd bit in the middle.

My band and I play this song on occasion; this will help with that. Thanks!

  • You Rock Nate! Thanks bud!

  • Great video...

    talk about shit luck

  • dude, i am stoked you are putting up videos man. i have been watchin you since i first saw you on rockstar. thanks again and keep it coming.

  • Awesome, thanks.

  • Does anyone know of a web site that shows the musical notation for this?

    Thx

    KV

  • Aside from this guy, Jason Bohnam is the only other pro I've heard explain this. Jason did some instructional videos early in his career where he mapped it out, though I don't recall how he counted it down. I have a CD with a click and no drums. I could never be in time with the band when they joined in. Now I know why.

  • nate you rock man, hey whats up with the Marty track C'mon Baby?

  • Nate rules.
