Your hair is gorgeous. I can't believe how thin and manageable it is! Hairdressers always use the de-bulking shears a ton on mine, and it's still like 10x more hair than that, even when I flat iron it =( It took me forever but I just cut it like this and saved like $50! =D

i just did this and it turned out pretty decent. but the hardest part is making all of the layers even and corresponding to the other peices. you have to make sure you do it correct though or else it will look a little lopsided.

@LINDA30000 The V shape comes naturally if you cut it just like she did. This is because you're bringing your hair to the side and the layers are shortest at the front and long in the back. And it's the same on both sides, so the longest layers form a V. You don't get that unless you ask for it at salons, because they cut it from behind you, not to the side. This makes it more even in the back.

scissors aren't the best thing to use to cut your hair. they are really dull and will cause split ends. I recommend buying shears. you can buy them at beauty supply stores.

I'm gonna wait for mine to grow out pretty long again before I attempt that because my hair is so thick, if I screw it up a little, no one will notice - trust me, gotten a brush stuck before and had to remove a huge chunk of hair :P anyway, great vid! I like this and I like that people claim that it has worked for them and are asked about it and even keep trying it after you've taught them. I have a suggestion, you should've made the dividing of the hair part a bit longer. You should've explained better by being more detailed. For first timers like me. Whenever I've cut my hair in layers, I always find it much much easier to just flip my head upside down and cut it straight across. By how far down your head is pointing, you can change your layers to be longer or shorter.

OH MY GOD. Coming from a PROFESSIONAL HAIRDRESSER this is all wrong. You need professional sharp scissors, WET hair because dry hair causes split ends and you don't tie back the section you just cut. You use that section as a guide. Like she said she SELF TAUGHT. Hairdressers go to school for a reason, TO LEARN HOW TO CUT HAIR PROPERLY. I'm sure i will see many of you in my salon to fix these cuts. Just Sayin'.

I cut my hair myself about 3 weeks ago and I cut it dry and straightened since it was much easier to do it that way, it looks ok styled but I've already got split/dry ends coming back. I'm definitely going to get it cut by someone who actually knows what they're doing now. I've been putting off getting it cut professionally for a while since I had a really bad experience about a year and half ago. But you've convinced me to bite the bullet and get a proper cut
