I need some help my crested gecko he or she keeps attacing me for no reason my gecko is about 5 months old and no its not shedding causing the problem any sugestions?
I have a 5 month old gecko.. He (I think he is a he.. although I'm beginning to think otherwise) was very small when I got him, so I was afraid to handle him. Now he crawls as fast as he can away from me if I try to touch him.. and doesn't like any disturbance in his tank. I only have the one, although I've had one before. I've been hand feeding him over the last few days, which has helped a little. Any suggestions though? :s
@Newfett The little ones are generally jumpier than the adults. (Generally.) They seem to mellow out with age. Nothing seems abnormal. I don't hand-feed though, seems to stress them out sometimes.
hurray! a stolenmilkcrate video U can post comments on! I need to know, if a gecko jumps from a high place, about 1 meter from a hard ground, can the be injured?
I currently live in Glen Ellyn IL. I looked on your website and saw that you live in Rockford. I LOVE your videos and it would be amazing if I could buy a Crestie off of you. I'll contact you on your website also, but I was wondering if it were possible for me to come and pick one or two up rather than have it shipped? It would just give me a little more peace of mind and it would probably be easier for you. It would be GREATLY appreciated! :)
@MrGekko1212 Yeah as my site says I am willing to do meet-ups for "locals" - when I can fit it into my sched! Definitely contact me through the site though, I don't get all of my youtube messages

@willthethrillicious It depends. Some will settle right in. You should still wait at least a week before you start handling though so he can get used to his surroundings.
So question here... i have a fully grown male that i recently picked up.. about 2 weeks ago now... when i got him home it was VERY easy to pick him up, take him out of his cup, and put him in the cage.... problem is.. if i even put my hand in (slowly) his tank now, he FREAKS out... runs away as fast as he can and dissapears into his plants.... i mean i have yet to see a crested that is THIS "upset" with anything moving... i would like to take him out to clean his tank soon.. dunno how i can now.
@audi97x It happens sometimes, especially with an animal in a new cage, or a critter that wasn't handled much in its previous home. When I get one like that I just try to do 2-minute handling sessions once every 2-3 days and ramp it up slowly from there. Sometimes you will just get a crazy one though.
It's on the eye it's self, I think it might be normal because it's when he turns his eye Yoi see it, but a google melanoma and crested geckos and the images looked alarmingly similar. I will try to email you pics, not sure it is gonna work though. Thank you! :)
Please help! JB your the only person I can trust to know this! My male crested gecko is getting black rings around his eye ball, is it melanoma? What will happen to him? I just moved him into a new tank, and he is with a female separated by I divider. Is it contagious ? Please tell me everything ou can!
@550starlight I have never heard of black rings... are they on the eyeball itself, or in the area around the eyes? Pictures would help, can you send any to my e-mail? (It's on my website, linked in the vid info)
Hey i have had my crested gecko for about 2 and a half weeks.. Hes still a baby maybe a month old.. For the first week and a half i could handle him very easily but recently its the opposite.. Now when i offer my hand he turns the other way and quickly goes away.. He even bit me once! What should i do to get him back to his normal behavior?
@JTsmokingbaby Welcome to owning a reptile! This is more than likely "normal" behavior for the gecko. You do have to keep in mind that reptiles don't "enjoy" being handled - some tolerate it, some do not. You shouldn't really have been handling him the first week anyway - in that time he was probably still trying to adjust to his new home so he would probably have been acting differently than normal. You can still love your gecko but it's important to remember it's a reptile first and foremost.
I was just about to buy a crested gecko and then I imediatly saw the bearded dragon and fell in love :) but there really cool but my mom is like nnnnnawwwwww!
Hey whats up jb thanks to you I am going to get a crestie if I I get good grades on my report card. Also this would not be possible without your vids helping me and your the only one who responded to my comments. Also if I get one I will, try to upload a video dedicated to your helpfullness. Should I get a male or female geko and also can u recomend some things that would me. So any way thanks for every thing and keep up the awesomeness like always !!!!!!
@LazersRcool832 If you buy a young gecko you probably won't have much choice in male or female, you generally take what you get! If you buy an adult though, keep in mind with a female, she might lay infertile eggs even if she hasn't been with a male, so be prepared to have a laybox for her. :) Good luck!
@stolenmilkcrate you dont have to have a laybox for her. if you are using a substrate ( like coconut husk) you can just mix in some peet moss and she'll lay her egg in it, then all you have to do is check it once a day for any upturned substrate and take the eggs out. not only does the substrate work better than a piece of paper and a laybox it also give the cage a more realistic feel and you are able to plant small pot plants in it to. thats my oppinion.
@alexdubois98 I've tried planted terrariums. You may have had luck finding the "upturned soil," but my geckos have always packed the earth right back down so it looks completely undisturbed, resulting in having to dig quite a lot of the cage up. I do -like- the way natural tanks look - just too much work for a house full of female animals.
@stolenmilkcrate try patting down the soil fairly hard so its quite packed but not to the point where they cant dig in it. also make sure that almost all the tanks soil is visable and then you'll be able to find the upturned soil easier
@LazersRcool832 if its possible talk to the breader about getting an older gecko, preferably female. older geckos are easier to start off with because they are more calm and they react to being touched and hadled better than younger ones. hope you have a great time with your new gecko!!! =)
@Timmya1227 o__o That's... not going to happen. Please be careful about giving advice when you don't have any experience with a species. You will scare people needlessly.
@Timmya1227 "Unless you don't know that" - I'm not sure what you mean XD I definitely do know the difference between an adult male and adult female, I have some nice pics to help you tell how. Keep in mind if you get a female, she may need to lay eggs so her care will be a little different than a male's!
@Timmya1227 I have tons of pics showing what you'd need to look for, but if they're tiny you won't be able to tell. Hit up the link in the vid description and click on the Sexing tab.
@stolenmilkcrate i have a question about these guys...if they're nocturnal what exactly do they do during the day? i've noticed a lot of people take videos of them when they're active during the day...what's up with that? please explain...thanks!
@CashSmeller The geckos sleep during the day. Generally -people- are awake during the day, and most people do not have night vision on their cameras, so they wake their geckos up to take vids. Doesn't hurt them as long as you don't do it constantly, they generally go right back to sleep when you put them back.
Geckos are beautiful, I an getting one and I just wanted some pointers, on what they need for the bottom of tank how often to clean should I get a male or female? What should I name it? Thanks! :) by the way your geckos are beautiful!
@550starlight I have all of that info on my website, google JBsCresties. Male or female depends on whether you are willing to put up with the occasional male ejaculation, or the occasional female laying dud eggs.
@TheLukeSchiltz Pros and cons for either sex. Females may lay infertile eggs so be prepared for that. Males may ejaculate on you when you pick them up. So... lol. The babies are fast-moving and jump a lot. Adults tend to be more sedate. Easiest geckos to care for as long as you keep your temps and humidity properly and feed them the proper diet.
With the squirrley one, I have a male juvinile crested gecko an when I try to hold him and get him out of his cage he runs around and try's to get away....does that mean he doesnt like to be handled or that he's not used to being handled? I've had him for about 3 or 4 months
@Mistfire55 It's probably a little from column a, a little from column b. It's important to not forget that they're reptiles and they don't really have the same reaction to handling that a fuzzy pet would. You can try short handling sessions of 5 minutes every other day or so and work up from there to see if things go OK.
hi umm is ur site still running cause am planning on buying a crested gecko?,because people been telling me that petco/petsmart should be my last choice.........
Thanks so much for your help. You are very patient! I love my two babies & want them to be happy. I still don't know their sex. If they end up being two males, I know I have to separate them. If one is a female and one is a male do they need to be housed separatly?
@jsc514 absolutely... it's probably even more dangerous to the geckos to house them together if you have a male and female. You do not want the male to breed the female too early. They -will- mate, whether you are ready for them to or not.
I have two baby crested geckos I got them in March & April. Is it okay to start handeling them now? I've only been handeling them when I clean their tank. How much should I handle them to start?
@jsc514 Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. With babies you have to be really gentle :) Do maybe 5 mins every other day? See if they tolerate that OK. They will be jumpy when small! Just a warning :)
sorry this will sound like some stupid questions and i want like all the info before the commitment. about how long do they live for? do you have to feed them bugs or can you feed them fruit and veg? (i could feed him/her crickets but my nan and granddad or nabbers could not if we went away on holiday.) thanks sorry if the questions have been asked and nice vid subbed :)
@spookieluke1998 You should read up on my website (linked in the vid info) - it covers what they eat. They don't eat vegetables, there is a special fruit-based food you can buy that solves all feeding problems. They can eat live food in addition to this special diet, but it is not necessary if you feed them the diet.

@Kymax1423 If it's for sure a male, they do tend to be a little more squirrely than most females. Maybe try giving him a treat food when you pick him up sometimes? Like if he likes crickets, give him a cricket when he's in your hand? Not sure. It's important to keep in mind though that he is a reptile and not all of them tame down or get calm in human hands.
Ive had my adult crested gecko for about a year or so and he has never liked to be handled so is there something i can do to get him more used to it , i really want to be able to him.
Ok, I have had my 2 crested geckos for just over a year now, and 1 hated being handled, the other didn't mind. Now the other one doesn't like being handled and I'm wondering if he has been influenced. Also, how can I get them out of the cage without handling them?
Hi, thanks for the video, it was really useful. However, my previously quite calm, 4 month old crestie has turned a bit squirrely since i put him into a new, larger, terrarium a few days ago. I was wondering if it had anything to do with having UV light on him for the first time. Can UV make them more active or nervous? It could just be that he's anxious about the new terrarium but I'm getting concerned. Can you think of any thing I can do to help him get used to handling again? Thanks.
@LovableH100 I couldn't say whether the UV light has anything to do with it, but generally a change in environment is probably enough to throw them off a bit. I would give him ~a week or 2 to settle in before you try handling again. Keep in mind he now has to find all new hiding/safe spots so he might feel open to attacks right now.
@PurexRealiity It's just part of owning reptiles... not every animal will want to be held. You can try to hold him for 5-10 minutes every other night or so and see if it helps.
@stolenmilkcrate oh, well ive heard a lot of different scientific names for them. like hydrosaurus pyroxide (lol i just made that up) and similar ones.
@fsxaviator Rhacodactylus ciliatus is all crested gecko. The only reason the juvi and the adult looked different is because they are different morphs (i.e. colouration) its like one person with black hair and another with ginger hair, same species!
How do you get a crested gecko out of the tank? Mine is pretty narrow (zilla atrium) and I don't really have enough room to pick her up with forked fingers. She likes to chill on the bottom, underneath things and in the leaves down there. She's a 40g adult
@TheMusiciankid16 If he drinks it off the leaves it's enough. I like to just offer a bowl/dish of water too because sometimes they will drink from it, and it helps some of the humidity stay in the enclosure.
two questions one after my pair mates do i immediately separate them or do i leave them together until she lays and two have you ever experimented about what temperature can get you what breed while incubating. because i would want female babies. but i think you need higher temps is that true obviously you would know if anybody.
@lizardcentral Some people keep them together, some separate them. You need to keep an eye on your pair and decide that for yourself. For the second part, I assume you meant "what sex," not "what breed" - at this time there is no published proof that states crested geckos have temperature-determined sex.
My crested died three years ago from a disease that the vet and reptile experts had no name for. He was only five, but he was ten inches long. One of the biggest. I still really miss him.
@jaydenl95 Bananas are not that great nutrition-wise because of their potassium/calcium/etc. balance. I encourage you to sign up on pangeareptile's forums and get feedback from people other than me so you can understand why this is not something to play around about.
About how much does a crested with enclosure for an adult a few climbing branches some bush or vines he can hide in and cgd all together? Only need a rough estimate round higher if possible
Hi, could somebody help me :( i have a 7 month old crested gecko and he/she is only 7 grams and 12cm in length, i think he hasn't been growing properly. I have been making his baby food and cgd everyday and putting it in his tank but i dont think he was eating it so i started to hand feed. I dont mind hand feeding but i just wanted to know if he is small for his age can i get him back to his normal size? please help i nees peoples thoughts thanks :)
@jaydenl95 Please stop feeding your gecko baby food. Crested Gecko Diet only, that will go a long way toward helping your gecko grow correctly. Hand-feeding also generally just stresses them out. They DO eat on their own, they won't starve themselves unless they're sick. They do not eat every night, and sometimes only eat a couple of times a week. He's probably an OK size. They don't grow super fast.
@jaydenl95 Noooo please, doing that messes up the balance of the vitamins in the food :( Baby food is like blending a twinkie into their food, it's not good for them. CGD mixed with water is what they need.
@stolenmilkcrate i only did it because he doesnt like it with just water, what should i do :/ when i put it on his nose he rubs it off onto my hands but the baby food he eats quite a lot of
@jaydenl95 ... quit putting it onto his nose! That stresses them out so yeah he'll rub it off. Just put a dish in the cage, water + CGD. Leave it in the same place every night that you feed fresh stuff. The gecko will get the hang of it, they won't starve themselves. Baby food is setting that gecko up for some possible health issues.
My juvinile crestie is friken insane it's (I say it cuz i don't know the sex not cuz i'm a prick) an amazing hunter and i'm about 4.9 and i was holding him about chest hight i'd just taken him out for some handling and it jamp out of my hand onto the ground and it is completely fine!!!! Little nutter i'm now even more careful but anywho i'm just wondering when do they start getting really big (for a gecko of course)?
Hi!I have some questions,if you cand help me.I se youe have somevery large crested geckos.I also have one female that is about 1/1.3 years old and it is pretty small i think. It has only 5.5inches.Is that normal, will it continue to grow? Thanks!
Help me plzzz since ur the best that i kno i have 3 baby crested gecko toghether in a 10 gallon with a 25 w night glo cause of the winter it got cold so now is perfect but i only feed them the crestie diet is that ok or do i have to give them ckrikets with calcium and mtiv pwder

@550starlight I have all of that info on my website, google JBsCresties. Male or female depends on whether you are willing to put up with the occasional male ejaculation, or the occasional female laying dud eggs.
stolenmilkcrate 7 months ago
Couple questions.... for a first time reptile owner...
- male or female?
- Do they move around fast, or are they generally sort of chill and slow moving?
- how difficult are they to care for?
cheers!
TheLukeSchiltz 7 months ago

Mistfire55 7 months ago
@Mistfire55 It's probably a little from column a, a little from column b. It's important to not forget that they're reptiles and they don't really have the same reaction to handling that a fuzzy pet would. You can try short handling sessions of 5 minutes every other day or so and work up from there to see if things go OK.

I have a really squirrally crested gecko, how would you recomend getting him out his tank safely so that maybe he might get used to handling.
Thank you.
LegoOiNC 8 months ago
Thanks so much for your help. You are very patient! I love my two babies & want them to be happy. I still don't know their sex. If they end up being two males, I know I have to separate them. If one is a female and one is a male do they need to be housed separatly?
jsc514 8 months ago
@jsc514 absolutely... it's probably even more dangerous to the geckos to house them together if you have a male and female. You do not want the male to breed the female too early. They -will- mate, whether you are ready for them to or not.
stolenmilkcrate 8 months ago
I have two baby crested geckos I got them in March & April. Is it okay to start handeling them now? I've only been handeling them when I clean their tank. How much should I handle them to start?
jsc514 8 months ago
@jsc514 Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. With babies you have to be really gentle :) Do maybe 5 mins every other day? See if they tolerate that OK. They will be jumpy when small! Just a warning :)

sorry this will sound like some stupid questions and i want like all the info before the commitment. about how long do they live for? do you have to feed them bugs or can you feed them fruit and veg? (i could feed him/her crickets but my nan and granddad or nabbers could not if we went away on holiday.) thanks sorry if the questions have been asked and nice vid subbed :)
spookieluke1998 8 months ago
@spookieluke1998 You should read up on my website (linked in the vid info) - it covers what they eat. They don't eat vegetables, there is a special fruit-based food you can buy that solves all feeding problems. They can eat live food in addition to this special diet, but it is not necessary if you feed them the diet.

Kymax1423 8 months ago
I didnt hold him much when i first got him but for the last few months i try to for around 5 or 10 min every other day.
Kymax1423 8 months ago
@Kymax1423 If it's for sure a male, they do tend to be a little more squirrely than most females. Maybe try giving him a treat food when you pick him up sometimes? Like if he likes crickets, give him a cricket when he's in your hand? Not sure. It's important to keep in mind though that he is a reptile and not all of them tame down or get calm in human hands.
stolenmilkcrate 8 months ago
Ive had my adult crested gecko for about a year or so and he has never liked to be handled so is there something i can do to get him more used to it , i really want to be able to him.
Kymax1423 8 months ago
@Kymax1423 How often do you handle him? And for how long?
stolenmilkcrate 8 months ago
Ok, I have had my 2 crested geckos for just over a year now, and 1 hated being handled, the other didn't mind. Now the other one doesn't like being handled and I'm wondering if he has been influenced. Also, how can I get them out of the cage without handling them?

Crested geckos also drop their tails?
melissatotheann 9 months ago
Hi, thanks for the video, it was really useful. However, my previously quite calm, 4 month old crestie has turned a bit squirrely since i put him into a new, larger, terrarium a few days ago. I was wondering if it had anything to do with having UV light on him for the first time. Can UV make them more active or nervous? It could just be that he's anxious about the new terrarium but I'm getting concerned. Can you think of any thing I can do to help him get used to handling again? Thanks.
LovableH100 9 months ago
@LovableH100 I couldn't say whether the UV light has anything to do with it, but generally a change in environment is probably enough to throw them off a bit. I would give him ~a week or 2 to settle in before you try handling again. Keep in mind he now has to find all new hiding/safe spots so he might feel open to attacks right now.

Also I have a newer vid I just uploaded last night that also covers some of this info if you want to watch it :)

TheCanadianBalls 10 months ago
@TheCanadianBalls what? You don't want a gecko obese, obesity causes the same issues in reptiles that it does in any other animal.
stolenmilkcrate 10 months ago
@TheCanadianBalls just cause youre a fat kid doesnt mean you need fat pets to fit in. go for a jog fatty
healonator 10 months ago
@PurexRealiity It's just part of owning reptiles... not every animal will want to be held. You can try to hold him for 5-10 minutes every other night or so and see if it helps.
stolenmilkcrate 10 months ago
was the baby (and adult) a certain species of crested? i like the way it handled :)
fsxaviator 10 months ago
@fsxaviator Hm? They're all the same species... I'm not sure what you're asking. The only difference in crested geckos is their colors.
stolenmilkcrate 10 months ago
@stolenmilkcrate oh, well ive heard a lot of different scientific names for them. like hydrosaurus pyroxide (lol i just made that up) and similar ones.
fsxaviator 10 months ago
@fsxaviator All crested geckos are called Rhacodactylus ciliatus. There are no different scientific names for crested geckos.
stolenmilkcrate 10 months ago
@fsxaviator Rhacodactylus ciliatus is all crested gecko. The only reason the juvi and the adult looked different is because they are different morphs (i.e. colouration) its like one person with black hair and another with ginger hair, same species!

How do you get a crested gecko out of the tank? Mine is pretty narrow (zilla atrium) and I don't really have enough room to pick her up with forked fingers. She likes to chill on the bottom, underneath things and in the leaves down there. She's a 40g adult
hokankai1 11 months ago
@hokankai1 At adult size I just... pick em up. Forked fingers is more for hatchlings/juvies.

TheMusiciankid16 11 months ago
@TheMusiciankid16 If he drinks it off the leaves it's enough. I like to just offer a bowl/dish of water too because sometimes they will drink from it, and it helps some of the humidity stay in the enclosure.

tcon97 1 year ago
two questions one after my pair mates do i immediately separate them or do i leave them together until she lays and two have you ever experimented about what temperature can get you what breed while incubating. because i would want female babies. but i think you need higher temps is that true obviously you would know if anybody.
lizardcentral 1 year ago
@lizardcentral Some people keep them together, some separate them. You need to keep an eye on your pair and decide that for yourself. For the second part, I assume you meant "what sex," not "what breed" - at this time there is no published proof that states crested geckos have temperature-determined sex.

jaydenl95 1 year ago
@jaydenl95 Bananas are not that great nutrition-wise because of their potassium/calcium/etc. balance. I encourage you to sign up on pangeareptile's forums and get feedback from people other than me so you can understand why this is not something to play around about.

I dont mind hand feeding but i just wanted to know if he is small for his age can i get him back to his normal size? please help i nees peoples thoughts thanks :)
jaydenl95 1 year ago
@jaydenl95 Please stop feeding your gecko baby food. Crested Gecko Diet only, that will go a long way toward helping your gecko grow correctly. Hand-feeding also generally just stresses them out. They DO eat on their own, they won't starve themselves unless they're sick. They do not eat every night, and sometimes only eat a couple of times a week. He's probably an OK size. They don't grow super fast.
stolenmilkcrate 1 year ago
@stolenmilkcrate i feed him crested gecko diet but instead of adding water i add baby food and ok thanks :)
jaydenl95 1 year ago
@jaydenl95 Noooo please, doing that messes up the balance of the vitamins in the food :( Baby food is like blending a twinkie into their food, it's not good for them. CGD mixed with water is what they need.
stolenmilkcrate 1 year ago
@stolenmilkcrate i only did it because he doesnt like it with just water, what should i do :/ when i put it on his nose he rubs it off onto my hands but the baby food he eats quite a lot of
jaydenl95 1 year ago
@jaydenl95 ... quit putting it onto his nose! That stresses them out so yeah he'll rub it off. Just put a dish in the cage, water + CGD. Leave it in the same place every night that you feed fresh stuff. The gecko will get the hang of it, they won't starve themselves. Baby food is setting that gecko up for some possible health issues.
