HI! your float set up is very interesting. Normally I fish my floats with small split shots. You are using a heavy lead, why are you doing this? Is it that you are finding the carp are not bolting and just lipping you bait and by using a float you can set the hook on the light takes?
Yes.It is a version of float ledgering rather then float fishing. Meaning that the bait is presented as a bottom bait just like it would be if I was bottom fishing. However the line goes straight up to the float ( Polaris ) which gives me a wide variety of strike indication, high in the water for when the fish are active, down to very small portion visible that reacts almost instantly to extremely subtle takes. This is fantastic for picking up bites that would normally be not be seen otherwise.
@spaggage08 Thanks guys. They do but this winter has been rough..we've had temps into the -10 range F...which has brought ice to even the most freeze resistant swims :(
Glad your having fun fishing in the winter. Did it take a long time to upload the long video? I had the notice that said I can do longer than 15 minutes now.. I have never gone over 6 minutes and it seems to take forever to process HD! I havent been at the River in a few weeks.
@NaturesFairy It did take a bit and It wasn't HD..my new camera is full up to 1080p HD and I can only imagine how long it will take to upload footage this coming season.
@BlackstoneCarp Have fun with your new Camera,,, ya it can take awhile to upload HD! But its worth it because its looks much better! Happy Fishing! I have SPRING fever!! LOL!!!
@barbelmaster73 Thanks, glad you enjoyed. That stinks man, though at least it is only a few months, I know that doesn't help heh. We've had some really cold weather some nights hitting single digits with wind chills of up to -10 F ( that's -23 or so C ) and about a foot of snow... Been a mild winter hehe ;). All our lakes have around 6-8 inches of ice on em right now..luckily I still have my rivers! I go absolutely crazy though after about a week with no bank time..
That was a loooonng blog lol Good one though ; -) Awesome winter session! I'm gonna drag out the camera for a session this weekend. O ne fish do it for me
@rehamkram Haha yeah..You-tube said I could have more then 15 minutes and I was determined to do just that ;)
I hope you have a great session as well..I'm going to be trying a few other locations but outside of this swim many of them have not shown much activity :(
@TopAZangler I sight fish a lot on the fly during the warmer months. This is a small space for long tips heh so I'll keep it short and I'll hopefully do some more in the upcoming spring on stalking, but really the best advice is to really take things slow and light. Carp have really great eye sight and sense of hearing. When you toss to them always try to stay 5-10 feet in front and slightly to a side, never directly on top of...
