I had all 8 of my babies via natural childbirth. It is very tough at the point that you are going thru labor and delivery. I never threw up, but my daughter and daughter-in-law did. One right after labor, the other during the pushing phase. And they had epidurals. If you are a couple wanting to have children, do not let the thoughts of pregnancy or labor and delivery ever hold you back. The vast majority never have any real or lasting problems. Just do it!
It's funny watching these now knowing you are pregnant with baby number 3. The part of this video when you said you were complete and not having anymore babies made me laugh! And you are right, natural L&D is NOT easy by any means. I remember one part during mine when I was begging for a C-section just so I would stop having pain hahaha. You are VERY strong and I enjoyed these videos. I can't wait to be pregnant with our 2nd one day!
Thanks for posting and educating. Birth could be so much more rewarding if all women trusted in their own bodies rather than left things to the medical establishments. Yes, occasionallly something goes wrong, but those occasions are few and far between, and the medical establishments don't seem to recognize that, so we must educate ourselves rather than leave things in the hands of the medical establishments.
Thank you so much for these videos - I've been terrified of the thought of L&D for over 10 years (I'm 31 now). My hubby and I have occasionally spoken about having children but L&D has always held me back. As none of my friends are parents either there isn't really anyone I could ask about it. So thank you for posting this - I'm still scared, but perhaps not enough to say no to kids the next time my hubby and I have a talk.
You look lika a total natural. What a beutifull little baby I am pregnant with my second baby due on 17th Nov and I had a c section with my son bu want to havea natural birth this time I also want to breastfeed this time too any tips an is it sore on your nipples and what does the pan feel like down below exactly I am scared of pushing and the pain.
@81shelbay The pushing phase is much easier than the contractions, so remember that getting through contractions is the toughest part. Pushing actually feels good b/c you get to push through the pain and do something that feels more productive other than take the pain and wait. lol Congratulations by the way. Breastfeeding is a learning experience for the both of you, and with the right support you will do just fine. The first 2 weeks is the roughest but again get past that and you'll do great!
@xxxjoelpolexxx Thank you well that has put my mind at ease a little my first labour was tough 24 hours and only 4cm hence the reason for the c section as he was in a lot of stress and my contractions were rather sore but they do get worse as labour progresses right? I'm sure I will be fine it has been over 10 years since my last baby but if the contractions are the hardest part then I am not so scared now thank you for your advice and god bless you and your wonderful family.
@81shelbay My first was 24 hrs as well. Sounds like you had an induction? The contractions to get mroe intense as they get closer together but 2nd+ labors tend to go faster, a LOT faster. My 2nd was 6 hours.
@xxxjoelpolexxx No I wasn't induced I was 5 days late with my son I went into labour myself my water broke at home is that what you mean by induction??? thanks for the advice.
@81shelbay No, It sounded like a typical induction: Mother goes to hospital w/ out being into labor and they start pitocin and manually start labor for her. Although there is natural induction too I suppose.
@xxxjoelpolexxx I went into labour on my own I got no help from the hospital I went to go to the toilet at 6am and my water broke on the bathroom floor we called the hospital and was told to go in when I got to 4cm my sons heart rate was falling it had been 24hrs so I was given an emergency c section. I hope my second goes easier. What made you think I had an induction? have you?
@81shelbay Nope, never had one...I can't get past 32 weeks w/ out pre-term labor, having to get shots to stop it. Both my babies came naturally at 37 weeks. Soon as they hit 7 lbs my body evicts them. It's weird. I'd love to go to 40 weeks though. I feel jipped on my 9th month of pregnancy. I figured induction since 4 cm was as far as you got, the stress, then the 24 hrs. It all sounds like a typical forced induction.
@xxxjoelpolexxx That must be stressful atleast they were both healthy thank god. I couldn't get passed 4cm because my cervix wouldn't open properly therefore stopping me from dilating any further. The nurses thought it was best to just get him out as he was in distress. I hope I go full term and go into labour on my own again with this one. I really want to get as far as pushing the baby out myself I dont want another c section I want to experience full labour all 10cm of it.
Blessings to you and your expanding family! It is so great to see strong, young women finding rewarding and intimate ways to give birth...I can't wait for my turn.
How bad does it hurt to give birth...and if people rip don't they feel it ripping or does it just happen? if the pain mostly over after the head comes out or are the shoulders painful too??
Do you know why I like your vids because there honest and open but not pushing your veiws down out throat your just telling us about your experience. Also Dont cry its sounds like you had an awsome birth and a safe one be proud of yourself.
I agree with you! I had both my girls ALL natural! No drug whatsoever! I will soon be a surrogate and plan on having another natural birth! Extremely empowering!
There are pros and cons to circumcision. There is evidence based practice that supports circumcision as well as evidence that does not. Everyone should do their homework and make the decision that is right for you.
Thank you SO much for sharing your story! I'm due in 8 days and am planning on a natural childbirth as well. Your story was so wonderful and gives me so much hope and inspiration for the birth of my baby boy.
I hope you know how much it means to women like me to see your videos and hear your story. This is just a special gift to share with the world. Thank you so much for doing it!
I had my daughter in the hospital but also completely drug-free and natural. When I got home, I reviewed it all in my mind and got so emotional as I thought, "It was the most HORRIBLE feeling in the world followed by the most BEAUTIFUL feeling I had ever felt." I swore that I would never do it again. But now, 5 months later, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I believe that giving birth with drugs would be a completely different and not so whole experience. I'm so happy and proud for you.
I think I was ready to have another baby just a few weeks after my daughter was born. We almost thought that we were expecting again and she's only 10 weeks old. lol I was actually hoping so badly to be pregnant again! I was so sad when I took the test. You said that you felt complete. I told my husband a couple of weeks ago, that i'm waiting for that feeling. We have 2 girls, and I still don't feel like my family is complete! Maybe I just watch too many shows with people who have a ton of kids!
Thank you so much for sharing your story! We have 1.5 weeks till D-day but of course he could come any time and hearing your story gives me hope and a renewed sense of purpose. I'm so glad we've chosen to go the natural route with midwives, everything about it feels so right. You're an amazing woman and mother!
i am now overdue and waiting on my water birth! i am so excited and just so ready to try this. you make me feel like i can do this. i am an absolute sissy with pain but to know that the outcome with me me holding my little love in my arms. i cant wait!
Wow! That sounds great--your family time and that they made you breakfast! I also loved being pregnant and want another one someday. Thanks for sharing your story.
Congratulations on your little man! he is absolutely beautiful! You have inspired me so much! You are a truly amazing person. I am in nursing school and just finished with my L&D rotation which is why i began watching your VLOGs in the first place. Thank u for being so open and informative!! I have learned so much from you. I have one question though, u said that u opted not to give the vit K shot at birth and that you were glad you opted not to but never explained why. What was the reasoning?
Thank You so much for sharing your home birth story Laci! He is so adorable and so handsome! You guys should be so proud of yourselves! I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to have him in the water, but he seems very healthy - so that's the best thing! I envy all of the "bonding" you guys had after the labor! I know the opportunity doesn't come around in the hospital. Anyway, I'm so excited for you and your growing little family!
My husband is proud of me for even planning a homebirth :) Once it is over I am sure he will be VERY proud, just like your hubby. We also plan to have hubby catch the baby so that the first person who touches him is one of the two people who created him :)
you were about to say why you didn't do the K shot - I'd be interested to know why and what are the negative points about it as my son who is only a few days older than yours had one the day he was born and then one a week for 8 weeks. thanks for your help!
wow idk, by the end of this video, you almost got me thinking i could have mine naturally! lol.. who knows! but this is a very convincing story! i'm so glad it went as well as it did! congrats again. :)
Thank you lucy for taking the time and being so detail with all your videos..You might not know it but you are helping lots of people. god will surely bless you and your family.thanks again for anwering all my emails...
I had a question, i know that you had covered about what you guys were going to do about gettting him circumsized (sp) did that go over ok or have you not done it yet?
I WISH i could do it all natural, i don't know if i could! I have pretty large babies, and i tear easy! My son was 2 weeks early and almost 10 pounds, i dont think i could do it without a epidural! LOL But your videos definitely make me want to think about the option of a home birth/water birth! CONGRATS again he is GORGEOUS!
I feel what you are saying 100%, I remember telling myself during labor:"If I can just get through this, then I will never get pregnant again"...........lol
congrats. thank you so much for making vblogs about your pregnancy. i think to any one that watched them really taught us something. i watch from beginning and you made me think. Thank you again. now i don't think we need a book about pregnancy and labor methods. thank you
That is awesome! What did you and your husband say to people who were negative about you NOT having a hospital birth? ... because I keep getting negative comments... like you can't do that, you will need drugs and on and on. I know I can I am going to, but people are so negative about it.
He was proud despite some of his sarcastic remarks to me when I ask him what his co-workers thought. lol But he'd come home from work and tell me about the other wives that were expecting as well & how they were intrigued with our choices & just the way he spoke u could tell he was proud even though he'd make fun of me & call me a hippie lol
Your videos have inspired me and given me great courage. I am also planning a water-birth and it will be my first, but I just wanted you to know that you have made excellent videos so far and they are worth watching. Thanks for taking the time to make them and share your journey.
Very beautiful and inspiring! Thank you for taking the time to share this. I don't have any kids, maybe someday, but this really helped alleviate some of my fears. I hope someday I can have as wonderful an experience as you had. Congratulations and God bless you and your beautiful family! =)
Your labor story was so beautiful in fact because of you and all the information you provided in your videos about natural child birth I decided that if/when we have another child I would love to do it natural at home like you did. You are such a wonderful insperation to other women thank you for shareing your story with us.
I am soooo happy for you and congratulations one million times over. He is sooo tiny and seeing him just makes me want to try for another, lord knows how bad I wanted a boy. anywho he's a cutie and you look awesome.
hi lucy. kacen is amazingly cute : ) Do you think you could try to do a video of little Kacen and Jacelyn together. I would love to see that! Congrats on you labor and delivery and your adorable family!!!
don't forget having done it for yourself, too. after going through that, you can take on anything. there's no greater journey than the process of becoming fully aware, through homebirth, of just how powerful and capable we truly our.
Congrats! I've been so annoyed I havnt been able to watch your videos because my notebook was sent in to get fixed in the mid of april and I still dont have it back. I love watching your videos! I take me time out and watch them while my son is sleeping! I'm so glad that you got to have a natural home birth. I really wanted to have a natural birth but had an emergency c-section after being induced because of both of us having complications. Congrats you have a beautiful family.
What a cutie pie Kacen is! I am sooo happy for you!!! You are soo blessed you are right and I just hope that my delivery goes just as well as yours did. :) Congrats and you are a wonderful mommy!
You look like a breastfeeding pro! I have three kids with one due in October and I was wondering if you were planning to post any "how to's"' on nursing. I have had tons of difficulties in the past and am planning a homebirth and to nurse #4.
Hey Lucy! I've been watching your videos since you were TTC and I love your beautiful family. Congratulations on your newest addition. Hope you keep posting videos. Best wishes.
Lucy, I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I have been watching your videos since you were TTC and I absolutely love you and your family. Both your children are gorgeous and you have the perfect family. You are very strong to go through a natural, homebirth, and I am planning on a homebirth when I have children. I also applaud you for breastfeeding... not enough people do these days. Hope you keep posting videos of you and your newest addition!
aww, honey!! such a great story!! wow, u had me teary eyed!!! I had a c-section, so i dont think i'll ever be able to experince a natural childbirth.... =( congrats on your new addition!!
I agree with you completely! it's such an amazing thing to give birth naturally... I can't wait to do it again.
I was screaming lots about not being able to do it, and my mom and sister were telling me that I could, and I was... and that I didn't have a choice lol... I knew that, but it was hard.
it is so funny when i look back. At the time i couldn't stand the end of pregnancy or the labor. But now i think about it and I wish i could do it again. I loved the excitement of bringing my new child into the world and knowing that he was growing inside of me is amazing
I tried to post a comment 2 times on your part 3 video. So if you get my comments more then once I am sorry.
What I wanted to say was that you did the most amazing beautiful thing. You are the strongest woman I know. I am so thrilled that Kacen is home with you and safe and in your arms. Your videos just touched my heart and made me cry so hard. When you said you touched his head. I just knew that all the terror and pain you felt was blown away by such a wonderful feeling.
I just finished watching the rest of these. I had to go to work when you had just uploaded the 2nd one :( lol! Your such an inspiration, home births or water births aren't an option where I live. Sucks a little, but I'm still going to try my hardest to do it as natural as possible. Sorry you didn't get to have your water birth, I no how bad you wanted it. You said you didn't get the V-K shot, but never went back on why you said you were glad you didn't afterwards? Thanks for sharing these :) x
Oh yeah... ops! Well the Vit K helps w/ clotting. 2 days after he was born we did his 1st PKU test here at home, the midwife came by to do it. And he wouldn't bleed! I mean he did, but it took about an hour of her squeezing both big toes and re-pricking probably 20 times just to do that test, her arms were MEGA SORE. So if we had done that VIT K no telling what would have happened, he probably honestly really wouldn't have bled AT ALL.
I think I've commented on all your videos so far. :) But again Kacen is adorable! Lol, for some reason I can totally picture you with at least 2 more. :)
No it dosn't hurt AT ALL surprisingly. I have used nipple cream TWICE, and that was for the first two times I showered, I put it on directly b4 getting in, b/c the water hitting my nipples was a little sore, other than that, nope no pain and it's been much easier! I had cracked, dried, blistered, bleeding nipples with my daughter.
Wow, that gives me something to look forward to! I never had to worry about the bleeding and cracking, I just had to bite my tongue and curl my toes through the first few seconds, then it was ok.
Sarah Jessica Parker tried to conceive for another baby with her husband and they had their son. They couldn't conceive but instead they are using a surrogate mother with twin girls for me. Those baby noises and grunts are so cute. He must have sucked your breast dry temporarily. Kate Gosseling couldn't conceive because of PCOS. After fertility treatments she got six quadruplets and two twin girls.
LOL If the ultrasound said he was a boy with the package than he wouldn't be a girl with a vagina. That's great that you would have more kids and just trick him to conceiving. Good for you on the natural childbirth and the actual breast feeding. I hope to do the same thing when I have kids in the future.
It's not rather my husband would want more or not, I think we both would if we COULD. For us it's a matter of being able to AFFORD to have more and to have the lifestyle we want to give them at the same time. And as of right now, we can't afford to do that and have any more kids.
that is our situation, we want to be able to give our kids what we didnt have and we are afraid another baby will take that away, maybe in the future if we have more money.
I got the epidural with Jacelyn when I was 5 cm, and I stayed in labor another 21 hours, it wore off 100% by the time I reached 8 cm, so come push time it was allllllllllll felt. I was able to get up to go pee and walk to my postpartum room after they cleaned me up and gave me a new pad.
Hey Lucy, Like I said, Congrats! He is beautiful. I had a natural birth with my son, but i didnt have a choice.... He was born 2 weeks early when I was taking a bath. And like you, i had a cramp like pain in my back every now and then so I didnt suspect contractions. I delivered him myself and lay there til the ambulance came. I was TERRIFIED!! lol! He was 8 lbs 8 oz, no tears no heavy bleeding. Thank God. Good luck for the future x
OMG- im almost balling my eyes out watching these vids Lucy!!! Im feelin so freakin emotional- i just hope this is an early pregnancy sign for me!!!
Ur such a beautiful, natural Mother Lucy- i love watching you and how well you take motherhood in ur stride :) I can only hope im half as good a mother as you appear to be...
I LOVE how newborns look- so tiny and helpless, fit perfectly in our arms... Ahhhhhh- cant wait til i can do it all again :)
Hey Lucy!PLease don´t get me wrong, but I love you! You are breastfeeding your baby in front of a camera in a country where lots of women wouldn´t even say the word breast in public! And you talk about your L&D with no problem! You are so amazing! I´ve been to the US for quite some time and never met people that were as openminded, warm and loving as you are! I wish all the best on earth for you and your family! And I mean this from the bottom of my heart!
Oh Hunny.... U just didn't come to the South uh? That's what I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE about Texas, the south in general. It doesn't matter where u are, or what your doing, you'll always get a smile and wave from a stranger, just to say hello. It's I dunno, just so simply here. Even in one of the biggest cities like Dallas/Fort Worth, people know.. just b/c ur in the city doesn't mean you've left the South, so have respect for one another, tip your hat, wave hello, and give em' a smile.
Your story in ways reminds me of parts of the business of being born, you hit the wall and pushed through it. He is soo beautiful lucy congratulations!!!
I didn't just hit the wall, the freaking wall smacked me. lol And I REALLY didn't see it coming. It was soooooooooooooo different with my daughter. The contractions weren't nearly as intense and the pushing was much easier. It's amazing how different two births by the same mother can pan out.
wow so inspiring, a little scary, I have 4 weeks to go (more or less) till the birth of my baby and will be using pethedine and entonox. I'm so scared of tearing!
I am so happy for you and your little family of FOUR! I had happy tears throughout your wonderful birth story. It makes me want to do it all over agian myself:) Enjoy newborn Kacen in no time at all he will being throwing baseballs with daddy. I sure wish time would just slow its' self down.
Yay.... awesome update! I agree with you 100%. Drug free entrance into this world is amazing. You rock! And I also agree about the loving every minute of it. :o) Us woman are amazingly strong and can conqure the world! Thanks for all your update... xoxox
He wasn't actually hungry (a feed that lasted more than 10 minutes) until a few hrs later, I think it had been about 4-6 hrs? From that point forward he's been glued to the breast lol
it is so special that you breast feed him. my daughter was born early so i had to pump for her because they had to know how much she was eating. And then when it was time for her to breast feed she refused to latch on. we tried every thing. so i contiuned to pump but then she wasn't gaining enough weight so the nicu doctor put her on a really high calorie formula and it worked. So breast feeding went out the window. It is so sad. i wanted to breast feed her so bad. but you do what you have to.
Congrats on you BEAUTIFUL little angel! and a huge GOOD ON YOU GIRL for going thru a natural home labour/birth!! I can imagine how hard it would be with not much relief and it sounds like you did an awesome job, that tear sounds really sore aswell! Thats where i felt the pressure and the most pain with my labour, i didnt tear but the pain stuck around for about 8 weeks! All the best to you new family of 4! Cant wait to see more of Kacen River.... awesome name by the way! xoxox
I miss that feeling right after birth!! I am SOOOOO jealous. My son is 1 1/2yrs old and is the love of my life. But I can't wait to have another. :) I so know what you mean about loving the pain though. :)
By the way did you get Kacen circumsized? Not that it matters either way. just curious.
I thought it was necessary for a baby boy's health, please inform me it you know something I dont know. It is now 5/30/09 and I am 35 weeks and 4 days. :)
just look down in your arms and you realize that your little child is worth every minute from conception to the last push. I feel the same way you do about having more. I love every minute of it.
I so needed to hear what you said from 7 minutes to around 8 or so. Even though this is something I WANT to do, I'm scared because I am such a wuss with pain. I have a good amount of support and I like the midwife we've chosen - so in that area I feel good. Just the thought of wondering if I really can do it. Gotta love self doubt! Not..lol
So did you get drugs with Jacelyn? Or were you natural but hospital with her?
Thank you for sharing all this :0) All of it was very very beautiful.
i wish i could have a at home birth but i have alot of health problems and no midwife will take me as a patient i feel like i dont get to excperience all i could of a natrual birth
Lucy, I just wanted to say you are an inspiration to those of us who are considering a home birth after a hospital birth. You sre a strong beautiful intelligent woman. You have helped me become more educated about TTC and home births. He is beautiful. You have a beautiful family.

We also plan to have hubby catch the baby so that the first person who touches him is one of the two people who created him :)

hello lucy
you were about to say why you didn't do the K shot - I'd be interested to know why and what are the negative points about it as my son who is only a few days older than yours had one the day he was born and then one a week for 8 weeks. thanks for your help!

Thanks for sharing these :) x
sharnaneil 2 years ago
Oh yeah...

Does breastfeeding hurt as bad the second time around?
I am still bf my 5 month old daughter, and it is fine now, but those first 3 weeks were PAINFUL!
Just wondering if it hurt as bad the second time around.
dunndrop 2 years ago
No it dosn't hurt AT ALL surprisingly. I have used nipple cream TWICE, and that was for the first two times I showered, I put it on directly b4 getting in, b/c the water hitting my nipples was a little sore, other than that, nope no pain and it's been much easier! I had cracked, dried, blistered, bleeding nipples with my daughter.
xxxjoelpolexxx 2 years ago
That sounds really painful.
ilovehandbags06 2 years ago
Wow, that gives me something to look forward to! I never had to worry about the bleeding and cracking, I just had to bite my tongue and curl my toes through the first few seconds, then it was ok.
dunndrop 2 years ago
Sarah Jessica Parker tried to conceive for another baby with her husband and they had their son. They couldn't conceive but instead they are using a surrogate mother with twin girls for me. Those baby noises and grunts are so cute. He must have sucked your breast dry temporarily. Kate Gosseling couldn't conceive because of PCOS. After fertility treatments she got six quadruplets and two twin girls.
FlowingGeisha 2 years ago
LOL If the ultrasound said he was a boy with the package than he wouldn't be a girl with a vagina. That's great that you would have more kids and just trick him to conceiving. Good for you on the natural childbirth and the actual breast feeding. I hope to do the same thing when I have kids in the future.
FlowingGeisha 2 years ago
It's not rather my husband would want more or not, I think we both would if we COULD. For us it's a matter of being able to AFFORD to have more and to have the lifestyle we want to give them at the same time. And as of right now, we can't afford to do that and have any more kids.
xxxjoelpolexxx 2 years ago
that is our situation, we want to be able to give our kids what we didnt have and we are afraid another baby will take that away, maybe in the future if we have more money.

did u have an epidural with jacelyn how did she react the first time she saw him
MizzC88 2 years ago

Even in one of the biggest cities like Dallas/Fort Worth, people know.. just b/c ur in the city doesn't mean you've left the South, so have respect for one another, tip your hat, wave hello, and give em' a smile.
xxxjoelpolexxx 2 years ago
You are so right! I spent almost a year in the midwest! And I mean in the middle of the midwest! haha!
If I ever have the chance to visit the US again, I would probably visit the south! You people seem to be soooooo nice! :o)

I didn't just hit the wall, the freaking wall smacked me. lol And I REALLY didn't see it coming. It was soooooooooooooo different with my daughter. The contractions weren't nearly as intense and the pushing was much easier. It's amazing how different two births by the same mother can pan out.

I did have a question though. How long after the birth were you able to breastfeed for the first time?
kaylajo1 2 years ago
He wasn't actually hungry (a feed that lasted more than 10 minutes) until a few hrs later, I think it had been about 4-6 hrs? From that point forward he's been glued to the breast lol
xxxjoelpolexxx 2 years ago
it is so special that you breast feed him. my daughter was born early so i had to pump for her because they had to know how much she was eating.
