I think alot of shopping carts fall victime to this alone. then there's prolly alot of people ripping them off just because, and alot of people pushing thier groceries home long way then to lazy to take them back and abandon them in an alley.

We decided to rig his up with plywood on the front and a reinforced steel cage to keep it together on the front and go smash into shopping carts in parking lots. dam in the past 2 weeks me my friend and my brother have stolen 4 we just hang onto them outside the window and when we get outta the parking lot jump out and throw it in the back of the truck if we are in a car we just keep holding onto it through the window

Yeah, in Denmark shops are not that good to their customers. Some shops, (and of course center of most cities), you have to pay for parking. Bags you also pay for, and noone fills them for you. A queue is mandatory, even if there is lines empty. (Why i choose shop for waiting time, i hate those queues)
Shopping Carts with locks is the most common. I think it boomed 15-20 yrs ago. Stupid idea. (You want to shop big, then you need small change, and more work)
I can't give you a one hundred per cent correct answer, but I guess it is because people want to make sure that no one steals the shopping carts. Why anyone would do that, is beyond my reasoning, but I reckon that is the reason.

Well things don't really go that way, when you put inside a Danish 10-coin then you're temporarily borrowing it, until you return the shopping cart and get your 10-coin back. However, this video shows that one can also get some shopping carts without paying with real money.
