enjoying your show Grace, I found it by accident surfing youtube, have only got back to buying comics, it seems I've missed alot of Big events both in Marvel and DC. Down here in New Zealand, Wellington, the comics have increased in price but that has not stop me from buying them, we pay $ 7.95 nz dollars each, I buy 4 to 6 comic a month, I'm happy.
To be honest the only comic's i don't really like superheroes. And the comics I read tend to be more social realisme and absurd. It's been a while since I bought a comic, not since I completed my akira collection.
I wait till the hard back comes out or if i, lucky, the paper back. I cant stand waiting for the next 20-30 pages to come out. i just buy the more interesting arcs like planet hulk or the watchmen
Grace, you watch True Blood, and I'm pretty curious... do you watch The Vampire Diaries? You said CW soaps, and pictured Supernatural so I'm kind of wondering. I must admit, I love The Vampire Diaries and True Blood.
Hey Grace can you talk about The new Ultimate Spider Man comic with Miles Morales?!! Because i've just recently read them and i love all 5 of the issues and Miles is a lot better than what i thought and he's different than Peter but still awosome and i love how they put miles at the death of Peter (which was so sad :( )
Grace you mind filling me in on what's going on with the X-Men? I'm not allowed to buy comics. I read the free ones online, get filled in by my friends and use blogs and vlogs like yours. I'm not too keen on Wolvie's sentimental idea of naming his school the "Jean Grey School for Higher Learning."
I think comics can get a second wind if tablets take off and digital subscription is cost friendly. I might increase my purchase significantly, after years of cutting back (no room, tight purse). Compare Netflix
Justice League Dark is interesting, but far as I'm concerned Monocyte is the thing to pay attention to, the art alone by Menton3 is worthy of framing, and for those of you who read, you may just find your self dazzled, even if it is technically a horror title.
I got venom in trade an uncanny xforce in trade. I read a lot of marvel's big titles but alot of the more obscure things I have read have been really good like scott pilgrim.I want to pick up infinite vacation but it is hard to find a place that has it.
Didn't peg you as a team Eric fan, Grace. Id have to say I'm team Lafayette myself. Wildcard that he is. My comic resolution: break into DC a bit more this year. Haven't picked up much since "Blackest Night"
i think the reason more people don't pick up comics is because a lot of them don't understand what all is out there. i think a lot of people still believe comics feel like the old Adam West tv show, where boom and pow show up every panel
as far as television goes, i just watch what i like. i don't have pay channels like HBO or Showtime so those shows i watch on DVD but with network television and basic cable i just watch what i like. my favorite shows are True Blood, The Walking Dead, Beavis and Butthead, and Once Upon a Time has grown on me. a show that's been around for a while that i haven't seen yet and want too is Dexter.
true blood!!!!! =D =D yay umm i just started reading x men again and i find hopes team oddly similar to the Runnaways ... where are they anyways ??????
My comic book resolution is to finally read Fables since I keep hearing about it. But I can be pretty anal, so I feel I have to read all the fairy tales that are being referenced so that I can pick up any subtle references that I enjoy in these types of things. I think I'm down to just Pinocchio and Dr. Swineheart or whatever it's called.
i say diversity is a good thing in comics. any of thise styles would suit it, just be caurful not to try putting the round peg in the triangle hole. and no, oval doesnt quite fit either.
but also, comics have a voice all their own, which i never want comics to loose.
I disagree that being married means there is no tension in a relationship if that is what you are implying in the part about Aquaman and Meria. I think they should have left more of the marriages in the DCU stand. I think it says something about the writer if they can't write an interesting married couple. My life is anything but boring being married and I think it's silly think a relationship is dead if you are married. Just saying. :)
I try to pick up trade paperbacks when are conclusive stories, speaking of those, this Christmas I got Batman's Haunted Knight and Dark Victory, also Spider-man Blue, all titles from the award winning team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale :D. Also my sister got me Batman and Dark Knight from the new 52 and a Spider-man/Blade one shot. As far as vampire comic books I'll always stick to 30 days of night, some people don't like em, but I really do :) Maybe I'll check out American Vampire some time later.
Personally, I pick up the trade paperbacks but there are 1 or 2 DC lines that I collect regularly. I guess I'm a mixed bag in terms of my comic book consumption.
I agree with what you said but comics still have too broaden up their likes and the types of books they pop out. I like diversity so you'll find my top comics to be all over the place: Y the Last Man, American Vampire, Chew, Runaways, Batwoman, Stormwatch, Children's Crusade, X-Factor, and recently Wolverine and the X-Men all over that TV spectrum. Although I haven't book that reads like Weeds or United States of Tara. Should there be? Or would it be exciting to read something like that?
I had a good Christmas Grace, remember when I mentioned I asked for "Batman:The Killing Joke"...well... I GOT IT!!! (-o-)
Anyway good episode, I'm pretty interested in "American Vampire", with this "Twilight" crap, it's great to hear of a comic about REAL vampires, that and "Underworld:Awakening" coming to theaters.
Grace I don't think there's a big enough range of alternative comic books. I'm all for artwork but I tend to find myself leaning towards comics thhat are unconventionally but still successes such as Johnny the Homocidal Maniac and Scott Prigram. I think there's too much of a basis in the superhero genre and much prefer comics that have strange ideas and concepts.
Pretty much all of those types of shows you mentioned, I watch on Netflix. If there was a Netflix for comic books I would read much more. Awesome episode Grace!
I decided to read some of the Uncanny X-Men like you said, and I think its pretty cool. I'm gonna save up some money and buy some more issues next year :)
I just picked up The Walking Dead from the library and I was amazed to see how different both the show and the graphic novels are. Also great t-shirt you fashionista. For me its the shows like Walking Dead that are bringing me to read the graphic novels. I looked at Fables but the art work didn't draw me in, not sure why but I have to do a study of it so I can understand the comparison of the two.
I am most looking forward to teen titans this week, especially as Superboy would be making his entrance. I am very interested in seeing how they develop this incarnation of the jr. titans especially with Red Robin
Aquaman is a fun book, Geoff Johns gives Arthur some justice. Alan davis art is awesome, loved his work on Captain Britain back in the day. Justified and Sons of Anarchy awesome shows. Captain America 5 and 6 both come out tomorrow. Snyders Batman and Swampthing are great books as well. Have a great upcoming New Year
I didn't get any comics, but I do plan to buy the V for Vendetta graphic novel for my birthday.
When it comes to how I want to read my comics - I am on the 'DVD' side of things. Give me one huge graphic novel of one volume of X-Men, Spider-Man, or Green Lantern so that I actually don't have to read Wikipedia to learn about X-23, the hidden evil of Gwen Stacy, or Kyle Radner aka the Ryu of the Green Lantern series. Grace, do they have graphic novels for my specific taste?
