@celticirishkeith - with the likes of idiots in ivory towers blocking hidden treasures from seeing the light of day via YT, and thus remind old timers of these treasures, as well as exposing new generations and as such creating a new consumer base and demand with it, who would even know of these groups/performances/songs etc. I wish I'd had made a collection of all of the posts from younger listeners who wished this was the music of their youth instead of (c)rap! Sad reality!!!

What a pitty , these unplugged sessions is strong armed away to one side to allow in its place. All the mind numming spoon fed reality shows. I understand the rating things as a business model. But mtv sold their soul. What a pitty.

@celticirishkeith - sadly I have to inform you that changes for the better are not in the offing @ MTV. I know someone who works there in mid-upper mgmt, and I made a nearly identical comment/question the reply being "our demographic is too broad to please all, so we go for the ones providing the largest audience #s". Soooo: if it sucks, it includes crotch grabbing and "bitch" every other word you'll see lots of it on MTV, but if it is musically excellent ..look elsewhere!!!

this is the way i love to hear my music, live and raw. its the best way to really hear how good the music is. gotta love it. btw , what ever happened to mtv and their unplugged sessions. ? remember those...... ?

bring back the unplugged sessions and the music for that mater to mtv . and please enough is enough of the garbage reality shows. im sure i can speak for all on this matter.

@celticirishkeith - I know someone who works @ MTV & I asked same Q as you, the reply I got was that they were unable to cater to such a broad audience !!! So the they chose appealing to the lowest denominator.. trash TV ala Springer. Who would have thunk it, that crap would still be airing AND thriving? All we can do is let the suits and (more importantly) their sponsors what we think of their programs & vote with our wallets. Same applies to our country: idiots in suits decide 4 us.. :-(

I've read some arguments suggesting that the new media or world of the web, instant access beyond what can be limited for selling, etc., might mean a return; or even an evolution into something better! (ie. quality over quantity and more real growth of art alongside the community, and so on..) I can't quite get my head around their argument, yet, but hope it's true.

@itreeye - with about $1000 in a laptop and free software, one can produce and distribute their own CD/DVD good enough to get started, whereas in the 60/70s w/o deep pockets it would have been impossible. Also, one could get started w/o a manager today, but most importantly, for the true talents, today there is virtually nil competition, unlike back then. The downside, new talent lacks the inspiration of the plethora of the blues & soul giants, most being unknown 2day

People here said facts about music history, Page wanted Steve in his band before he knew Plant, also Robert was a huge Marriott fan, you can't change it, even if you don't sympathise their opinion about Marriott singing abilities. And also I think you should accept that there are some people who like Marriott voice more than Percy's.If you don't appreciate his songs, maybe it would be better if you leave this site

Hi, you know English is not my native language but I thought I knew the meaning of the word "SHOULD" and in my viewing this is not the synonym of "interesting line up" or "we think" they would have been "good/better". Why did he twist other people posts?

And I agree, it's difficult to tell what LZ would have sounded like, it's a matter of our feelings towards music after all, not a scientific statements, also I'm a little bit sic of people who treat LZ like a sacred cow.

As for "should" , common, lets not get a few letters get in the way of an illogical exchange ..;-). Besides, we don't know what, or how much, might have been in the bong/pipe/rolling paper ... ;-). LZ, seemed to have been at the both ends of the spectrum, seldom in the middle, mostly due to drugs. When brilliant, damn, they were fab, but when off, suck they did, & that per Plant himself.

I like things how they are, except I would love to see  much wider recognition and acclaim for Marriott's work (with SF and HP) His place in a rock food chain should be much higher.

Oh and I'm not sure if Page could have been capable to work with Marriott, who had such a big personality. Their collaboration could have been brilliant or ended very quickly transfiguring into a total disaster. Like you said- who knows...

@xJayWalkerx - Jay, as stated earlier, I watched an interview w/ Plant, and he openly admitted that most of their live performances were mostly between bad to horrible, all depending on Page's level of sobriety, @ times even playing wrong tunes & going off the reservation, which is a shame given all the potential talent.

I am in full agreement w/ your statement that SM & HP were so damn under-rated & underexposed. Many groups, on paper should have worked out but egos, drugs, etc got in the way.

both bands and singer(Plant/Marriot) had very distinctive style, so there's no need to think about it. Page and Plant were perfect together, i think this chemistry wouldnt be the same with Marriot, and anyway i love the zepplin and humble pie song as they are, for example i cant imagine the kashmir with Marriots voice. The same with Terry Reid as well. For me they are the 3 best singers ever

It's Steve in Led Zeppelin material- but he was singing this song in 1966!!!

Apparently Robert Plant was a big fan of Small Faces and Marriott.

There are much more connections between him and Zep than between Paul or Lou and Led Zep.

Thing is that Page never asked Paul Rodgers but he asked Steve Marriott to join his band!!! That's why people talk about Steve and Zep, because Page, Beck, Moon and Entwistle wanted him as a singer in their band. Steve refused though.

My pleasure Peskygee1. Agreed with the Marriot statement. There is feeling in his soulful delivery. You feel he is not holding back, yet you don't feel like he is yelling (at you). The music and the voice compliment each other, the end product being "ear candy". Back in their days, unfortunately they never received their proper recognition, except in the small circle of their devoted followers.

I was only 11 yrs old when this song came out, but I do remember the music back then had such unihibited passion and conviction compared to the bland, souless, generic crap that has been churned out by the music industry for the last 15 or so years. Sadly, the likes of him and his contemporaries, will never come around again. Late 60's to mid 70's produced so much great music that many fabulous tunes, groups, singers, simply fell between the cracks, and it must be searched for, and reintroduced to the masses. Only IF the suits would just keep their noses out of it .......(deep sigh).
