dude this same song made me fall in love with the bass as well to the point my buddys band back in high school would stop playing a song whenever i yelled barney miller and bust out with it
Man, thought I was an O.K. bassist but your stuff is pretty good. I don't see what your saying about your mechanics, I imagine you'd think mine are almost non-existant. Ah well, just a songwriter that's all I am. However, you have talent. Thanks.
Try learning "I was made to love her" by Stevie Wonder (J Jamerson on bass) and "YYZ" by Rush (Geddy Lee on bass). Two necessary tunes all bass players need to know.
@mayniemayne Give YYZ a listen, you dont have to be only a long haired white guy type rocker to like. Its loaded with funk style bass playing in a rock format. Very advanced.
@RangRing68 I don't anymore. That video's almost 2 years old...worked some on right-hand technique since then. There are newer videos in which I strum a bit more traditionally.
Should be in the key of E. Syndicated TV shows cut corners wherever possible, like speeding up the intro music, using time compression, and shaving a few seconds off of the ending or beginning of a scene so they have more time for commercials.
Sure, the mechanics are wrong. Things change/improve in a year (since the video's over a year old). Timing, what can I say, cheap webcam. Don't think the hat matters one way or another.
@mayniemayne I dunno man... I never thought music to be mechanical. You seemed to have a good flow to me. I think globack must have had hemorhoids when he made that comment. The had comment was just maximum douchebag. Thanks for the post. Nice bass too!
Good Stuff!!!! This is a show version. The deal with the Barney Miller show is the theme song changed from season to season. Sometimes the variation were slight other years the change was substantial. I don't know the exact year for this particular version but my guess would be between 1973-1975. Thanks wikipedia :-)
Really, just a Behringer 120-watt & occasionally an old Korg Pandora. Had an Ibanez 5-string, but it fell by the wayside. Concentrating on 4-string more before I replace it.
I never heard a long version like this before. Always loved the theme (especially that bad ass bass line!), so I'd love to find the find the entire theme that this guys is playing along with.
You look like you enjoying that man. good bass playin' dawg. Don't see that many cats playing the real thing nowadays. It's sad...keep up the good work.......
very good wow

You need to take lessons. Your mechanics are wrong, there is a timeing issue and I don't like the hat.

Do you know where I can find the bass tabs for the Barney Miller Theme?

This and Bob James' "Angela" are my two most favorite theme songs as well as greatest songs of all time. Great performance!
