  • I don't think I'd like that monster near my wood siding house!

  • @Terrathrax

You could always just go crawl under a rock then, and let him keep on keepin' on where he has for thousands of years, you ass.

  • @kingoflimbs1 You really need to lighten up kinglimbless. I didn't say I was going hurt the thing. What's with the personal attack? I won't sink to your level and reply in kind.

  • @Terrathrax

Kinglimbless, that's cute. Some talent you got there, really.

What you wrote came off as ignorant. Something tells me in the plan of the ongoing balance of nature, woodpeckers and trees and bugs were all intended, wood siding houses weren't. If he comes and slams a hole in your house, it's' nature's intention, and your bad, not his.

If your little bubble of a world is so small that anything that might peck at your house is a monster, open your eyes a wee bit :)

  • Loved this video. Thanx for posting. :-))

  • These woodpeckers are so funny to watch, we have a couple around our house in KY. Fist time I saw one I went and told my dad I just saw a woodpecker as big as a chicken he laughed and said Boy your hallucination about that time one flew past the porch where we were sitting and I said well look there goes my hallucination now.

  • These things always attack our transformer up here in Wisconsin. They like to peck on trees right outside my window around 8am in the early morning during the summer.

  • They also love peanut butter!

  • I can't believe how big they are.... The downy and red belly are the size of the suet cage... Birds are so diverse and strange!

  • what kid of suet cake is that flavor

  • @9988paintballer

I just bought a variety 3pack from the local Walmart. They liked them all!

I just takes a bit of patience and they'll start showing up.

  • @psychoticnrg ...that's for sure, I don't have any pileated yet, but I have a red-bellied couple and a female downy coming to my suet basket...and I'm in a fairly suburban/urban setting.

The red-bellied ones are also coming to my driveway for peanuts in the shell.

  • @karenpato1 I have this spirally metal ring that holds raw peanuts, the birds love it/.

  • I stayed a short while in england and I was so happy to spot this woodpecker in the backyard...i was getting bored seeing the rabbits and squirrels...but I also wanted to see a fox :(

  • That is a ginormous woodpecker. I can't believe I just wrote that.

  • That's no woodpecker, its a Redheaded Condor!

  • no it is very much a pileated woodpecker we get them all the time.

  • Ok, for everyone that decided to give my comment a thumbs down, perhaps you hadnt noticed by Condors died with the dinosaurs. IT WAS A JOKE.

  • I recognized it was a joke, but condors did NOT die out with the dinosaurs. They're endangered, but still around today. Maybe you were thinking pterodactyl?

  • don't worry,i realized it was a joke,lol! these are humongous arent they,though?!!

  • there is one of these birds either making a nest outside my office window or hitting the bug jackpot on a daily basis. He shows up for his 8 hour shift pecking away just like me drilling further and further into this tree. All I see is snow and this little man peckin away. Gotta love Wisconsin.

  • awesome video. They are apparently in my area but I've never seen one. The Hairy and downy are common, as are flickers.

  • I just saw one of these tonight out back, was able to get a little video before dark :O)

  • I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the variety of suet with dehydrated insects mixed in. I just saw some at the grocery store the other day and was curious how attractive it is to the birds.

  • Geez I'm waiting for that same day! lucky you!

  • thanks for sharing the video, we have one that lives nearby and about 50 other species of birds in our yard

    great video!

  • Nice male... the Pileated, Downys, Hairys, Redbellies, show up in my yard regularly...and Northern Flickers once in awhile...I have only gotten video of the Pileated so far

  • Guess who?!

  • Excellent video. I've only had Red Bellys and Downys at my suet feeder.

  • Amazing and so lucky to have one in your backyard !

  • Wow, that is a beautiful bird. I have never seen one before. I have a pair of Red Belly woodpeckers that regularly come to the suet feeders. Awesome dude.

  • Yea....I always dreamed of an Ivory bill coming to mine! hehe. That is crazy! You luck ass!

  • Wow, I'm surprised a pileated will feed at a suet feeder.

They sure are awesome... and huge! Nice capture!
