The ambiguity of this film is exquisite, even years after viewing. Stephane is like a mirror; some people find themselves or loved ones in him. This is an interpretation I've only recently considered, but does anyone see him as living with Asperger's Syndrome?

She plays the part of the hurt woman perfectly...with an anger and viciousness that defies her normal restraint and beauty, the scene is filmed absolutely perfectly! I have found there are people who understand this film, and if they do it never leaves their consciousness, and those who simply don't get it all....for those I feel sad.

Ce film comme l'un des plus grands jamais réalisés. Un Coeur est une chanson magnifique et digne de cygne pour Sautet. Lorsque Mme Beart répète Ravel avec son quartet et regarde M. Auteuil Her Down comme seul un homme de la France peut faire, c'est une combinaison capiteux de la luxure, la réticence, et la sobriété de cette scène prend des «psychodrame» à un nouveau niveau.

This is French cinema at its finest. The scene shown is the only one in the movie where emotions explode. Otherwise, emotions are conveyed in the the music of Ravel as played by Beart's character with everyone maintaining, on the surface at least, an attitude of sang froid. Trés French!!

Unfortunarely the power of this film - one of the finest I've ever seen - derives from the suspense of what is witheld and unspoken, so it is entirely unsuited to Youtube style viewing. Still, it is always a pleasure to watch them both. She was never so beautiful. He was never so perverse.
