Anton i have had a crush on you since i fist time saw you when i was about 8 i think or so and i am no 16 soon 17 and i still have a crucsh on you i iwsh i can see you again and meet you! your truly amzaing
@TimeWaster001 If only... But Olga Pikhienko, Anton Chelmokov, Zara Tellander, Mathieu Lavoie, Jon Gilkey, Rodrigue Proteau, and practically everyone from the original cast is gone :( ESPECIALLY ZARA AND MATHIEU!!!!!!! :(( Best singers EVER!!!!
Song Le Reveur, this same song was used at Midnight Sun but there was a trapeze artist instead of the Solo On Crutches, very mystical song....the Fall of an Angel
Real smart! Don't you know NOT to try that stuff at home unless you are a trained professional? Plus he wasnt/isnt useing your everyday average crutches, look at the bottom of them they are curved on the bottom!
@aliceinchainsburns08 Well obviously before this guy became professional at it, he obviously had to have tried it at home. Pluss the crutches probly work in similar ways.
The Solo on Crutches is the creation of performance artist Bill "the CrutchMaster" Shannon, who is known for his "Shannon technique" of dancing on crutches. This technique is a melding of skateboarding and street dancing styles with the use of modified underarm crutches.
Shannon was diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (a painful condition affecting the development of the hips) at the age of five.
He was originally asked to perform in Varekai, but declined.
This is a really cool act. Cirque has the ability to turn ordinary objects into extraordinary things to play with. the way the guy glides across the stage is pretty cool. It was even better live. trust me.
Amazing how Cirque Du Soleil can be so creative and make an act so extraordinary. What a beautiful interpretation of an injured soul/angel and the connection to human life. Guess we are all hurting and plea for help. It's like an outcry. How symbolic!
the name of the song is "La Reveur" which means "the dreamer". but it differs a lot from the album version. album version really sucks comparing to this live one. The live version of "la reveur" is really brilliant!!!
They may be giberish...I know everything that Zara sings is in Slavic (in this show, anyway)...I don't know if this is....the chorus type thing might be in Slavic. It might also be Romani, since that's where the show name comes from....
It helped ofcourse that i was working there as a temp while they were in antwerp. otherwise the ticket price would have been ridiculous :D Anyway, this was my favorite act, mostly because I love the song accompanying it. Whish I could here it live in the big tent once more, the sound is so much better than on video.
go on the cirque du soleil website left hand side you will see select a show click varekai scroll to the bottom to the boutuqie and you can take it from there
i saw varekai in Perth and i'm pretty sure i saw this act, sometimes acts are cut out of individual shows coz an artist is sick/injured, maybe thats why u didn't see it.
Yeah, I saw the last Perth show last Sunday, and this one was in it. My mum was with me, and she had been the month before, and even she said that some stuff was different.
I LOVE the music in this act; it's so powerful. Starts out dark, then slowly morphs into more of an optimistic air. Absolutely beautiful. When I saw Varekai, I'm pretty sure I saw this Vladimir. It was so long ago...almost six years.
Cirque du Soleil's music is incredible. I've seen Dralion, Corteo, and Varekai. I'm not sure who has the best music...Dralion's is great, Varekai's is phenomenal as well, and Corteo's is so different from both of them.
Zara's and Mathieu's voice...ahh...do they have solo albums?
Mathieu has a CD you can find on Amazon, but it expensive.
Zara has quite a few CD's. I have one of her Swedish albums, Himmelens Hatt, and she has Envisa albums and even a few songs in English (check out my profile to see one video of Zara). :D
:D You can also buy Mathieu's CD in other places, if you go to his main website. His solo CD is called Mathieu Lavoie. It wouldn't really be cheap from where I ordered it, but it's certainly cheaper than Amazon! Some old fart is trying to sell it for $50 or $60!! Even I wouldn't pay that much. But, yes, they both have solo CDs!
original choreography and concept from bill shannon contracted to cirque in 2000. trained with dergin and vova. also choregraphed the aerial twins act in varekai.
This is one of my 3 favourite acts. But when i saw it live, it was someone else with those crutches that have the single pole with a sticking out handle and arm support thing. I prefer this limping angle so much more.
Zara sounds amazing here - and out of the three "Limping Angel" boys, I love Dergin the most. He changes the mood so effectively, it's scarey. If I hopefully see Varekai in April, I'll see Vova.
si, pero tienes que estar ahi en el show, es mejor la experienca, yo fui el ano pasado en Las Vegas a ver Mystere, si vas, te lo garantizo que te van a dejar con la boca abierta
SOLO -3333333 my favourite part of the show, aside from the twins of course!

What about people with real dissabilities? I don't think this is anything they will sign? Don't think this guy is really with out legs...

Crutches like these tend to be for injuries more than anything, no? I can't see anyone being too logically offended by a choice of a prop. Really.
AraliaDeVicario 2 years ago
Um...it's just a prop. No need to read anything more into it.
christimacc 2 years ago
The crutches are a prop to emphasize the character's place and state in the plot. Of course it would have a far more active role as it is a circus.

What Greek story are you referring to?
SapphireLiev 3 years ago
i can't remember the name..

it's the story of icarus, but the original greek story only precedes the events of varekai. nonetheless, i love the story that cirque gives.

Vladimir dosn't walk on crutches in real life. In the show he's an "injured angel" whitch is why the crutches are part of the act.
