I'm a bit surprised Volvo went with a 'through-the-road' hybrid. As a mechanical engineer I might have instinctively pushed the design towards using a much smaller and economical diesel engine running generator to provide power to the wheels via electric motor (i.e. a diesel electric locomotive). Nonetheless it looks like a beautiful car, they got great performance numbers all around, AND everyone seems to love the driving characteristics. Cool! When will the Americans get it?
